We were suppose to get at the end of Sept, then mid Oct, now end of Oct, early Nov, Dec--no one knows because we can't get an answer... so yeah it usually isn't good business strategy to play around with the people on which your income comes in from.

When a phone comes out companies give a date, if the date needs to get pushed back, then they say there will be a delay... you don't just ignore your customer base especially with a device like this that everyone wants.

well, official announcement: "oct 2009 in selected markets" is still valid.

has those announcements been official somewhere public or is it a rumour that has formed into a fact in ones head? if it is publicly announced, pics or it didn't happen.

statement was stupid. like "why in the hell the LHC @ Cern isn't running?!? why aren't they consistent with their timetables?!?". answer: something has come up. perioid.

Nokia gives estimates, and people who are waiting for the devices must know themself that those announcements aren't facts but an estimate of timetable with all information available at time.

Exactly! It's not good business, and people in this day and age don't want that. Nokia needs to wake up and realize they aren't the same in-demand company they were six years ago.

Hahahaha I bet you two would wait until February if it was necessary.
I think the business revolves more around higher level strategies than release dates. Btw the frenzy these phone bloggers cause in the weeks before launching must be quite good for Nokia's business. The commotion preceeding N97's launch was like ..insane.. almost. No wonder they now sent out these "tryout" units to bloggers around the world. Guess Nokia wants the frenzy up a notch or two.

I am now 100% speculating but *launching* something like this must be a big operation. Getting the N900 to work with all services in OVI, PC Suite and what more must be a challenge.
Making sure support people are ready, 3rd party developers on par, software somewhat ready.
A phone like N900 like any other smartphone must demand quite a lot even after it has been sold in the form of updates and support.

Part of the tech-loving community want the phone launched as pre-production 'cause they can themselves update it once updates are available. Other part write long reviews bashing the software & phone & manufacturer for launching a phone that "doesn't feel it was ready for the market just yet".

From the info I got yesterday (Flagship store@Helsinki) Nokia will send the phones to the Flagship store and to the people that preordered at the same time.

Doesn't matter what your business strategy is, if you piss of your customer base kiss your company goodbye... When a company says one thing, but then does another without giving any explanation on when the product will be released people will tend to start having doubts... all we want is a date, thats it, nothing more... just a date, and when the date comes around if it needs to be pushed back, then fine just as long as they say 'we're trying for this date'.

Sure I'll wait till Feb for this device--if I have to wait that long and the HD2 comes out by then and the N900 still isn't released then obviously I'll go with a product that I know I can get my hands on...

I totally agree with, but at no time has Nokia given an 'exact date' just the run around, it'll be sometime in Oct, okay now mid Oct, no better yet somewhere around end of Oct, okay maybe Nov...

If you actually stand back and look at it, almost all the dates have come from us here in the forum, or Amazon, or Buy.com not Nokia.

Yeah, I'm disappointed. But I knew this was coming - their general website was stating 2nd Nov on Monday, and it was only a matter of time before the ordering department caught up. On the other hand, that's another week to concentrate on my thesis before I get distracted.

If this starts becoming a habit, I may have to cancel... my c905 is not holding charge and needs replacing pdq. :(

You'll find it, but with the slide out portrait keyboard...you know that Chinese "Special Edition" version... if you know what I mean. ;)

I spoke to a couple of reps at Expansys UK and that is the expected shipping date for new orders. They are expecting their first stock in on the 20th October and aim to ship with a few days of that.

It would be nice, but it seems that nokia makes everything slow these days. Have you look at the quantity of touch phones that Samsung has released. Nokia used to be faster.
They should announce and put it to the market. I hope that they don’t end with the same infernal wait of the n97.

Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

I am not sure how is this related to the delayed shipments of some N900 orders (amazon etc.) but Nokia has had some problems with getting enough components.

Seems like many people are waiting for a long time also for their iphone 3gs to arrive, at least here in Finland. For example buddy of mine has waited 3 months for his 3GS.

Can it be related to the shortage of Cortex-A8? Who knows.

The initial estimated arrival date was 29-30 Oct. One extra week is not too bad, considering other shops are pushing the date into Dec.

I'm from Austria too. I work at a company which sells all kind of IT stuff. So i have ordered my N900 at the biggest Austrian telecommunication distributor 3 weeks ago. I call them every week and ask for the delivery date. This week the person who is responsible for Nokia products told me that they have changed the expected delivery date of their order to last week of october. At the beginning it was the first week of october and last week it was 3rd week of october. I think that most of the other shops also don't have any other informations.

We can just wait and hope that Nokia really ships in the next weeks.

Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

I just received an email that my german retailer Cyberport has pushed the estimated delivery date back - into beginning of 2010 :(
reason: an announcement from their distributor.

Now i ordered from a second retailer ("Alternate") via "nachnahme" - you pay as the postman arrives at your door with the package. Alternate has October as expected delivery date. Strange.

Let's see who delivers first...

pushed back to Q1 2010 from 2 retailers?

either there's a major production backlog, or they've escalated 'the portrait issue' to be included in the initial preloaded firmware ;)

Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

If it doesnt ship or get an official release date directly from Nokia by Sunday, im done and as nice as the phone is I will buy another. I dont care for companies that will accept money and not give specifics....to me once you allow retailers to start collecting money, you should know enough about the product by that point to give detailed and concrete release information.

I watched this thread from day one...didnt think we would make it to 98 pages of the run around, we are obviously some of nokias most advanced and loyal (if not that we still had faith enough to drop 600) customers to even know about this device, but yet we sit here having to play detective and put retailer clues together, when the phone is made by nokia. In the future get the device nice and ready and dont speak of it until you can send it, or atleast give people the "I have my $h!t together and know when my device can be shipped date"

Side Note: If the were 300 n900's given away at the summits, what the heck are about 290 people doing with thier phone, I can name on hand the new reviews/previews that came after the summit, cover the device people! And there are way less videos than expected online given the number of devices out now. Our patience have run so short I spotted a poem?!

Nokia never gave a date, so basing delays on a never announced date is not too practical.

I do a agree that it is ridiculous that Nokia gave out 300 phones and there are only a few feedback's posted anywhere- and most of those were BEFORE the phones were given out.

Possibly Nokia gave them the phones for direct feedback to Nokia, rather than a preview blitzkrieg to us.

Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

I know that this isn't possible for Nokia but it wouldn't bother me if the phone is not consumer ready. I bought the Neo Freerunner a while ago and ordered one of the first G1 developer phones directly from US just to play around.
Nokia ... just listen to me ... I want it now :D

If you are willing to drop it that easily you can't want the N900 very badly.

Only crappy retailers have accepted any money and that has little to do with Nokia. Most retailers will not take the money until the device ships so your argument of "once you allow retailers to start collecting money, you should know enough about the product by that point to give detailed and concrete release information" is completely false, because they aren't collecting any money.

Seriously, anyone who is willing to cancel because it hasn't been launched yet when it has only been said it would launch "some time in October" must have more serious issues. I sold my Xperia X1 to get the N900, I am stuck with an old Samsung that ONLY works as a phone, no other fancy stuff, but you don't see me complaining.

Where did you order it from? As far as I know, there are no companies (except for maybe buy.com, which from reviews seems a bit shady) that have taken money yet... Also, as I have stated before in this thread that most of the dates are speculations only. I've speculated end of October since the start of the thread, and it doesn't seem like you've taken that into consideration, but only taken into consideration the dates that seem to make you happy: mid October. That's kind of like selective reading, and only leads yourself into disappointment.

I really feel your frustration as I'm waiting eagerly for this phone too, but I think dishing it out at Nokia is wrong. To my knowledge (be free to correct me), Nokia has only given out one date since the beginning, which is week 44/ 26-31st of October. Now if they push back from that date, then I can see you getting frustrated.

Think about it this way...

If we were to collect all the speculated dates in this thread and plug it into excel, the median (I don't know if I'm using it right, haven't taken a stat class in a while) date would probably still be around mid - end of October, and taken into consideration that this thread is probably way biased and would skew the date quite a bit...

edit: Also I doubt that there's going to be any kind of announcement for the release during the weekend

"Do you know what kind of keyboard will the Czech version have?" ..and she says.."QWERTZ, but localised..."..now what does that mean lol? And then she says without me asking.. "We will have the first batch last week of October. Anyone selling in Czech the device prior to that timeframe are fakes, bootlegs, so don't get these. And the price will be $849 (instead of $879)...hm...did she say something she shouldn't have or I don't know? Coz i phoned the same number a week ago and they didn't have a clue...
