This thread is basically my reason for living until I get the n900. I really hope this message never gets back to my girlfriend. lol

Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

I am busy telling myself that Nokia are delaying the n900 in order to make it Even More Awesome for me. By the time it ships, I expect it to have all the apps I could possibly need, (and a few I could never find a use for) along with the capacity to make a cup of tea, change TV channels, walk the dog for me, drive the car, do my day's work, instantly make me lose half a stone in weight and become (even) more beautiful. After all, I don't want them to ship it unfinished, do I?

I knew there was at least one in that list already covered. When I lived at MyTreo.net, someone there actually tested the IR to see how long it would take to boil a cup of tea because I kept complaining it was the only thing treo didn't do.

IR functionality alone should provide years of entertainment with the N900.

I use IRshell on my PSP, and I can pretty much go anywhere, and as long as I can see the brand of television / cable box that I am targeting, I can change the channel / volume, etc.

This is especially fun on those drunken evenings at the local bar when the tv closest to me isn't displaying a channel that is to my liking.

*Note to self: don't drink in the same bar as JayOnThaBeat.*

Could be exceptionally entertaining in a hi-tech hospital though. Can it do lasar eye surgery on the side?

Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

Fine. Enough with the "fluff" posts. I'll have to start getting this thread back on topic myself.

*WIll the N900 make people like me?

*Will using the N900 in public make people think I am a deity walking among the plebeian dirty masses?

*Does it support MMS?

*Does it have WIndows ME preloaded or do I need to flash the firmware to WIndows 95 OSR2 first?

*Can I run S60 applications?

*Will the N900 make me look fat?

*Has it secretly shipped but the Illuminati are suppressing the distribution?

*Has Alan Sugar been secretly controlling our brains through telepathy since the release of the Amstrad CPC? I heard that Amstrad Locomotive Basic compiled backwards would cause the Amstrad CPC 664 to become sentient, force a memory dump of the user's brain which would then be transmitted telepathically to the aforementioned gentleman. Oh, the N900 has an 'N' in the name like the name Alan. So it is on topic.

*I heard that the TV series "The X-Files" was based on the real investigations Nokia's R&D did to develop the N900. Is that true?

*WIll it run Doom?

*Will it run Quake?

*Will it run Asteroids?

*I heard that Maemo is not based on Linux but on a super secret CP/M derivative that was built by time-travellers in the future and secretly squirelled away in a vault in a cave in the middle of Mongolia until one of the maemo.org moderators discovered it. Is that true?

*We passed the 1000 posts yet it has not been shipped yet. Do we have to wait for 1000 decimal or hexadecimal? Unless it is octal, in which case it is passed. But I don't like octal; it is decidedly an unsexy numerical system so I don't care.

I doubt using a FLASH speed test is optimal as the N900 will still be CPU bound.

To be honest

Dear reader,

to be honest, you might be surprised to hear that almost all postings in this thread were written by my fellow employees here at Nokia.
It has been so much fun to fool you *LOL* but after 1000 posts we're getting tired and would rather start our annual Quake tournament
on our shiny new N900s.

LayZ - Supply Chain Management, Nokia HQ

PS: Damn, my boss has been asking me about signing that N900 final release paperwork for several weeks... but the first prize for that tournament is 1 month of paid vacation. So, wish me good luck! :D

Just to put all our waiting into perspective, this video describes the different steps involved in bringing a Nokia product from announcement to release.

A lot of what's being said relates to the N900.

Roger

I had no idea there was that much involved in QA.

Wow.You wouldn't get this from any other guy. But, you know, although inside we both know whats been going on, the N900 will show that we know the game and we're gonna play it. Nokia will never gonna tell a lie and hurt us.

Dont tell me you're too blind to see that - gotta make you understand.

Wow I never realised the entire development team worked in the nude. It must be something to do with static or dust.

If you're having to shower every hour to keep the dust down, it's just easier if you're always in the nude.

Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

This thread starts to be boring. :)

Bratag 2009-10-16 21:08

Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

So as another week draws to a close without our N900s being shipped its time once again to ask ourselves "What have we learned?"

For myself ....
  • I learned that Nokia QA is done entirely in the nude.
  • That throughout the ages famous people have known and loved the N900 in all its shapes and forms.
  • That the ship date for the N900 could be anywhere between next week and next year.
  • That occasionally people need punching in the cock.

What is certain is that we all take something from this thread and the almost religious routine of "Refresh, read, post" has become the new mantra.

Here Endeth The Lesson for 10/16/2009.

(NOT typed from my N900)

This seems like such a good idea, that at noon I fired all my male employees. At 5pm, all the people left(female) were advised of our new QA policy starting Monday. :D

You know what, I do not even care when this phone comes out now. Just STOP PRE-AUTHING MY CARD. This is causing me, and I am sure others, some annoyance now that they have managed to trip the fraud detection which disables my card and causes me to call in to get it fixed because I missed a phone call.

Most companies can get this right, Nokia should too. Auth/Charge the card when the thing is shipping, not every two weeks until the end of the year.

I recall the same rigmarole going on just recently with the Nokia N97 and Brightpoint. For the record nothing has been done to my card by Amazon.com so far but I think Buy.com does what Brightpoint does, also.
