Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

At least 2 french people who preordered on nokia.fr received an email from customer service saying `the official release date for n900 is december 2009` .

I don`t know the delay between countries , as information I bought the 5800 the day it was available and it was around 1er of february.

If I ever have to wait till december to receive this phone, I would have to save the money and continue using my N95.

Also, there are some rumours there are operators rejecting to sell N900. But I think, even if all operators finally agree on letting N900 working on their networks, Nokia may want to have everything tied up before releasing the device.

I've never heard of operators rejecting it, what's your source?

You could also say the iPhone works like a computer, so many phones these days have Skype either embedded into the phone or as a downloadable app. As far as flash, that's the same as if you were watching YouTube off an iPhone or Android based phone. It's still the same amount of data passing through the network. If that was really happening I would assume the HD2 would have more problems then the N900, especially considering it's faster hardware means you'll be able to access data allot faster than anything else ( including the N900 ). Operators are not going to reject a phone that everyone wants, and the reviews are saying is one of the most anticipated devices of the year...from a business standpoint it doesn't make any sense, rejecting something you'll make a ton of money off of...

Plus most if not all of the equipment used by the operators comes from the cell phone manufactures (e.g. Nokia). If the device meets GSM standards then compatibility should not be an issue.

yeah.. well maybe he has a point.. i mean it is a 'linux phone' kind of.
if all your customers start downloading weird open source programs on the device which drains the battery, crashes the os or what not, what would customer support do? give everyone a new one? selling the phone but not supporting the customer when technical/software issues..?

dont know what their problems or requirements are when it comes down to new phones in their shops.

make a ton of money... or a lot of unsatisfied customers, returned phones, service time covered by YOUR insurance which applies to ALL the phones sold in you store. dont know

Much as I love this, for the majority, it won't be. I've bought a number of phones from Asia in the past, and all of them were complete, unadulterated *crap*. They really didn't have any QA at all, meaning they were basically unusable. Hardware defects like the second sim splot not working, etcetera.

Okay that's assuming the phone is released by the actual cell company. Unlocked phones which aren't purchased through the actual carrier aren't supported by that carrier when it comes to technical service issues. Sure you may be able to find hint's and tips if you have a problem, but they're not going to support a product that isn't branded.

I was on my own when I used my E90 on AT&T, I had to search all over hell to find the appropriate settings to get the text, internet setup. If the carrier isn't getting any money for the unlocked phone you bought then why should they support it, and waste their own money a product they didn't benefit from when you initially bought it ( a cut of the pie if you will ).

OMG, I want one of those too...

On another note, what's the device and reason that it's blocked?? If it's the N800 that's not a phone. Plus the rules for each carrier in very country vary, so I'm sure data usage in quite a few countries have limits.

offcourse. if i would start a company called Yeskia i could make a rubber phone with a paperclip as antenna and cut a hole in it for my sim card. though my provider wont help me when my paperclip breaks off.

Though when operators reject the phone before the release, there might be advantages of changing the firmware to fit the requirements/wishes of the operators before making a grand release to the public.

but this is getting too much speculative and theoretical.

i do not know anything on the role of operators when it comes to new cell phones on the market.

I wanted the 1000 but also haven't got it. 2000 is the next chance for you. If nokia is releasing the N900 in december then there is also the chance to get 3000!

It also seems to be possible - _IF_YOU_STICK_TO_THE_CONDITIONS!_ to get free internet contract for this phone too. (it is intentionally easy to mess up and not get the rebate)

http://www.onecompare.com/buy-a-mobi...cturer=&model=

For example - I simply entered the nokia 1280 - as I can chuck it onto ebay with no risk.

On t-mobile Combi £30 plus Web n Walk 18 Month Contract, you pay 35/month by direct debit, and then at 5 periods during the term, if you follow all of the annoying conditions - you get the entirity of the fees paid.

This is 1G/month internet limit, with 700 cross-net minutes in the bundle.

they only pre-authorize to make sure you have enough funds. then they will hold it for 7 days, if they don't finalize it, your cc will delete the hold. that's what happened to my cc. so now there's no hold/charge on my cc cuz it's more than 7 days since i ordered the phone.

I liked the idea of we get one "ticket" for each thanks we have. Better still, I think that we should get one ticket for each thanks we have gotten from this thread.

If we have to pay for the raffle tickets, this starts to seem a lot more like a way for KingofLies or whatever his name is to make some money and not like a well deserved lesson in humility for raising and then crushing the hopes of hundreds of N900 fans.

I was joking about the purchasing of tickets... just a little "tongue in cheek"

Hot off the press from a Nokia USA cust. svc rep

"With regard to your inquiry about the release date of N900, we would like to inform you that as of the moment, the estimated release date of N900 is on the end of October but it is not yet sure or guaranteed. We do not have the exact information on when will this phone be released. We do apologize for the inconvenience."
