= $617.97

I'd only pay $582.99 on the purchase now though, as Amazon doesn't collect Pennsylvania sales tax. When I pay my state income tax at the end of the year, there's an accompanying form upon which I can report all the online purchases I've made so I can calculate and pay sales tax on them.

Ahem.

you "CAN" report?! That would lead to quite full jails here in Germany :)

Oh, yes! The form is very nice, and right at the top, in firm black type, it prominently displays a reminder that you really must report every online purchase you've made and pay the corresponding taxes. The state can't and won't check into the accuracy of what, if anything, you write down, of course, but everyone fills it out fully and honestly because it's the law and the right thing to do.

Ahem.

Its not like the N900 sells for the direct USD converted amount across the seas as what it does in Euros in different markets.

No, but it makes for one helluva comparison. Relatively speaking, you're parting with a greater chunk of your working-life's effort to pay for the thing.

I don't pay any tax for my Amazon purchase...so $583 is the end-price to me ;)

Now also showing up on leading Swiss price comparison website: Cheapest price is about 475 EUR (seems too cheap), all others are slightly over 500 EUR. No availability noted anywhere.

I wish it would. I'm paying 600 euros, which is WAY more than you guys will in the US :( It makes me sad. but ohh well, I'll get a kick as phone direct from Nokia Spain :D

I'm just reading this thread for the lulz. Glad I wasn't into pre-ordering this device when I had money. Even if, I never reply on release dates given by anyone since they are ALWAYS subject to change.

Keep going people. I am loving this. :D

Yes, I'm a new member, but I've observed from afar for some time. i made the jump as soon as I ordered my N900....I'm committed to developing software for this platform :)

Good thing you didn't book yourself for the Summit, or you'd probably cancel, and that might put a damper on your commitment to develop for the platform. :D

EDIT- I perceived your cancel comment above to refer to cancelling the devcie you ordered, not the Summit trip. I suspect I am mistaken.

It's usually good to see new blood in the forums, although if the blood comes from the back of Nokia as you remove your new N900 from it, one has to question your expectations on how your relationship will grow with Nokia given the angle of atta, er, approach you've taken with them in the relatively short duration of your TMO existence. Not all bridges are made of steel.

I truly do appreciate another developer coming on board the Maemo ship. I think we'll all be directing our energies at more positive conversations once devices are received.

If you do a search for "n900" at amazon.de, there is no more phone in the results list.

I don't know what this means, but my order is still placed.

Edit: Works again... strange.

mmm....
I was thinking of going to the summit, as I would love to meet the Maemo guys and get some face to face advice, but it does put a damper on it not having a device yet, and I have other stronger reasons for not being able to go (which is a real shame).

I don't think you could argue that it is bad timing, but it is also possible that this is due to a slip of the release date.
Both do have to be planned long in advance, so it's not impossible that the desire was to have the release before the summit...

Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

I think the N900 is a few weeks away still. My-Symbian reports they are in the process of adding 2 more gigs for apps before shipping. My guess is they are simply displacing some of the 32gb of onboard memory, but regardless, this means there are currently no devices on route to consumers.

If they were actually adding 2gbs more memory to the device, that would obviously be a while before shipping- a long while.

toratoko 2009-10-02 13:04

Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

They're not adding 2gb more memory, they're just lifting the restriction on how much space the application can use on your device. It has nothing to do with changing the hardware.

Apparently, kingofgadgets.co.uk have received a note today from their distributor telling them the device was pushed back to around october 20th. Until now they were expecting it to arrive october 8th.

The wait is killing me :(

totally mishandled in my opinion , the release of this phone and the booklet 3G as well though not in topic here.
Ive expressed my frustrations already over a post, so wont do it again.

I guess , like some wise man said, wait till mid Oct and then start cribbing again in a new thread ;)

Agreed- that is why I said they are displacing some of the on board 32gigs. No way they were adding memory- the cost and delay reasons are obivious.

I don't think Nokia would mind charging you a little bit more to add more memory, of course. What do they care about? If it were popular enough, they would bend over backwards to make a phone that EVERYONE wanted and costs 10,000 dollars to build. Their business is to make a device that's desirable enough, mass produce to make it cheap enough where the price enters into a demographic of people who want it, and can afford it, and try to make the fabrication as cheap as possible. They're in the business to make us happy. It's another story to make us happy at the price we want!

Why am I ranting? Ohh yeah ,because I want my N900 to be shipped last week. :)

This should be the same case with any manufacturer. But then why only Nokia is doing this (N900 and also giving importance to open source and the community). Because, apart from doing ONLY business they also CARE. That's why I (rather WE) like them.

Not countering but just saying!! :D

Europe is also getting N900's in mid to late october. The woman with whom I talked to seemed informed enough. As soon as I said "N900" and "EXPECTED / ESTIMATED" she said "Yes, I can't give you a DEFINATE date. but the ESTIMATED date is Mid October to LATE october, but of course, these CAN change... to up to december, but we're hoping to ship in October. You'll receive an email" blah blah blah.

OCTOBER :@ :D

Anything is possible. They're just protecting their *****es. If they say "It'll be shipping Oct 19th" and then it ships the 25th, you KNOW that SOMEONE will complain and they'll get problems and headaches "for breaking their promises." So their BEST bet is to say "around" or "estimate" so it says "It's coming soon, hold your horses! GAWD!!! I HATE ANSWERING THESE QUESTIONS! But anyways, it's coming soon. I can't tell you WHEN ... but SOON. S-O-O-N! SOON! <hangs up> Nokia, how can I help you? ..... N900 WILL BE OUT SOON!"

Lol.
