I went to Nokia store in London (UK) yesterday. They have never had a prototype N900 phone there.
She told me that the phone will be in the shop in November but it could be shipped before…she din’t know.

Guess what...I called today this biggest tech shop in Czech (Prague), called Alza, coz they list the N900 to be available from October 20th, even though Nokia Czech hasn't mentioned officialy any date yet. They told me they have the date from Nokia Czech itself. Now, that's not the best part. They said they will be selling the unit with an english qwerty keyboard (all 4 arrows), but with Maemo 5 localised to Czech. To cut things short, that means:
a) we will have the option in Czech Rep. to choose what version of the phone we want to get (with which keyboard - english/4arrows or czech localised/2arrows)
b) it's starts selling here October 20th, but Nokia are keeping it low on purpose and making it a surprise for now

:D

btw, it will cost $879 in Czech with all the VAT, etc.

Formerly for preorder the estimated shipping date was 12. October on nokia.de, now its 30. October :(

they will cut arrow keys to get up to a usable set of characters?

they cut too many keys. the new qwerty keyboard is sub optimal. there is room for a few more keys, i dont agree with their decision.

Just to keep this thread humming with possibilities.

Had Nokia USA do a auth charge against my CC today - which basically means they were checking to make sure the money was there. Called them, asked the guy when it was going to ship and he replied without pause - Mid Oct.

Take from that what you will.

So October 30th for a shipping date directly from Nokia still makes sense. A smaller retailer might get the device a little bit later.

I pre-ordered an N900 from Amazon. If I don't get my device by November 8, I think I will cancel my order and wait until after new years to get it in order to benefit from the inevitable after holiday price drop.

Just called Nokia USA after Bratag's post they told me end of october is the shipping date. this totally sucks but since I waited so long for Nokia to cover T-Mobile US, I think I can wait little longer.

I don't think that will speed up the shipping process and bring the dates closer. sorry friend.

Hi again to be honest i ordered the n97 a few months ago only to find that my manchester store had it 3 days before my pre order turned up so i got one from manchester and sent the pre ordered one back to nokia hope i dont have to do this with the n900

Just got off the phone with Nokia again, just to make sure my CC hadnt pooched the deal for me. (Yes I am paranoid). The nice lady on the other end of the phone when I asked about shipping date being Mid - to late Oct replied.

"It may even be sooner than that, I just this morning got a notice internally saying they are going to try ship this week. Not 100% but they are going to try"

What bangbang tech say I think is possibly true, but misleading.
We were told that the n900 would be available from select markets from October...
However bangbang tech is a uk site (given the .co.uk amazon address), and the UK I seem to remember isn't one of those select markets.....
And it's the Nokia.co.uk site that has the tentative delivery date of November.
So I think they are just confused, like many others when the actual release date is, as we actually haven't been given one as such.

Of course maybe that's all wrong and I will get my n900 in October which would be well nice :-D

I spoke to nokia USA again today and the guy i spoke to was still saying mid october as well. He said around oct 15th... not that it helps any with so many dates around.

The official SDL has been released today. That is a good sign.
Hopefully, whatever software bug held up the release has been fixed.

@fringant: You can get it even cheaper like on alternate.de (http://geizhals.at/eu/a457621.html) Only mentioning alternate here as it is a very big and reliable shop, dont know the one selling for 499,- Euro
