Re: Full Flash 10.1 where is the N900?

Please see this thread http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...701#post339701

It's speculated that n900 falls under the Linux + Arm support.

I am fairly sure Flash 10 will be available for Maemo. But I think it will not happen for at least 10 months.
The beta for ARM is coming Q1 2010, so be patient. ;)

Re: Full Flash 10.1 where is the N900?

I cannot say how much I detest the general usage of flash. There are some places where it is useful, but the vast majority of flash "applications" are terribly-performing bandwidth hogs. They run like a dog on anything other than Windows.

Second (and I know I didn't give a first), this gives developers more reasons to use flash. UI's will be designed for mouse clicks, not for small screens. You may ask why the iPhone is conspicuously absent from that list--I contend it's because flash sucks.

edit: didn't realize I was on page 2 of the thread and included redundant info.

gerbick, if too much hype is created and the device ultimately doesn't live up to the hype that was created then sales will suffer and the product will basically be a bust. Some of the best things are usually not hyped so much and just kinda creep in. The N900 already has some hype due to the YouTube advertisement seen, but it's not over-blowing it's existence like Apple does with their products...and if you've seen most of the comments on that video, you'd know that not even the best hype can save customers all the time.

But no hype bothers me even more. I can usually cut through the marketing hype based on how it will suit my needs best; however to not talk about it in the US markets, Nokia isn't exactly helping themselves.

I think that a YouTube video by Nokia about the Maemo/N900 device that's been seen only 130k times, whereas Apple's videos have been seen 1mil+ times for some of their videos, it shows a radical difference in hype to me.

The video isn't even showing off everything the N900 can do and yet people are already wanting to get rid of their iPhones and take the N900. I'd say that's pretty good in my opinion.
But knowing that an update is coming in an area that's never been updated in such a large version before on the N800/N810 (going from 9.4 to 10.1 would be greater than the minor dot revision going from Chinook to Diablo)... that needs to be said at least once.

Anyway, to each is own and this is just my perspective on it.
And I appreciate it.

Well, looks like the roll out is not expected to be complete until June.

"Adobe told us as they gleefully detailed that Flash was invading basically every other smartphone (except Apple devices). Also, we gotta wait until mid-2010 for the full rollout."

Nokia is a key partner with Adobe. We will get 10.1- one way or another.

Just saw the N900 being demonstrated with the 10.1 during the Adobe MAX - in fact, it was the first smartphone out of many - actually Kevin Lynch called it a "mobile computer" platform correctly, and showed TBS website.

Flawlessly. Said that Nokia has been involved quite deeply and they've been great.

Now... I can't friggin' wait.

Personally, I'm ready for them to bring MUCH better compatibility for Linux so it won't be sluggish on my Ubuntu laptop. :p

I gave up trying to fix the slow fullscreen video - now i just use compiz with windows key+scroll wheel to zoom in.

That's what I wanted to hear, this is great news. Wish there was a thanks button in off-topic (this is actually an on-topic discussion move to applications or general?)

I've moved the thread to Applications. Please feel free to go back and physically reinforce the mental thanks you gave earlier in the thread.
