Re: Big announcement coming soon from T-Mobile ; Project Black to shake things up?
Yup, and depending on the amount TMobile is making off of the plan currently if $50 doesn't break their bank then it would be a great way to undercut the competitors (or at least force them to lower their pricing).
I really don't think a merger would help them that much. Especially considering Sprint and TMobile have incompatible networks. Sure they'll be in 3rd place, but then instead of two "slowly dying" companies you just have one big "slowly dying" company that now has to somehow combine the two networks. |

I wonder when we'll get some more finalized information rather then rumor/speculation based on possible leaks though. Would be nice to know so I can determine when to buy the plan and whether to buy the device from TMobile vs. another store.

But from my perspective as a customer, an acquisition would be a major disappointment. It is interesting that some analysts and investors also say a T-Mobile acquistion of Sprint would be disappointing -- even highly risky. As a customer, I want better smartphones and better pricing plans for 3g and 4g data. T-Mobile's coverage is already improving nicely and for me it is better than AT&T's. With the acquisition, TMO will be buying Sprint's customers (probably at a hefty price per customer). This move does not offer anything "game changing" to the customers, IMO. Keep in mind that TMO has invested US$6.2 billion in its network in the US in the last 18 months! That's why everyone on TMO is seeing better coverage, more 3g, etc. If Project Dark is a $50 all you can consume pricing plan coupled with some killer smart phones and a few other goodies, on top of these $6.2 billion of improvements, TMO will be acquiring customers the right way -- by offering something better. |

4G doesn't mean the need of new hardware (ie phones) that support that? Official 4G release + cool phones supporting that (N900 sucessor for 2010) would be really a game-changer.
Just asking, I really don't know if actual 3G-capable phones can handle TMO's 4G. |
