Can't download Apps in Application Manager
Greetings:
I have a Nokia N800 with firmware version 5.2008.43-7. In my Application Manager the App list does not load. In the Application Manager menu under Tools and under Application catalog, the repositories are all missing. I haven't recieved an update to upgrade the firmware version. Is there a new way of downloading Apps? Or do I have to manually reinstall all the repositories one by one. Anyone can help me with this problem? Regards Robert |

Re: Can't download Apps in Application Manager
Are these the preinstalled repos?

Re: Can't download Apps in Application Manager
Same here
Have not opened my N800 for a couple of weeks or so. tried to check for installable apps in the apps manager- completely blank. Checked the Catalogues - all say "failed to refresh" Came on to Maemo expecting a message saying the repos were down????!!! Just another occasion where the Tablet and the Opensource hacks me off. My Canola Last.fm plugin has stopped working - although when I tried to access a "genre" - I obviously connected to something, because when I went into Last.fm from my PC - it showed that I had asked for "country" at some stage. Lots of other niggles now and obviously we have moved on to Maemo 5 etc. Spent to the last few days sailing with a guy who had an iPhone 3gs. even with all annoyance that Apple generate, such as lacking an open access to the bluetooth apps etc. I would have been embarrassed to show my N800.:o Apps on the iPhone were smooth with lots of eye-candy and easy navigation. Looks like it is time to move on. :( |
Re: Can't download Apps in Application Manager
These two repos are not there.
When I try to enter them they don't seem to show up on the list. Its as if the system does not want to save them. If I do a restore do you think it will work. |

I've just re-flashed the device, and still repos don't work. catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/certified/dists/diablo/Release.gpg catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/non-certified/dists/diablo/Release.gpg catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/certified/updates/diablo-2/./Release.gpg repository.maemo.org/extras/dists/diablo/Release.gpg Are these known to be down or something? Can anyone else reach them via N800 Application manager? OS: Maemo OS2008 5.2008.43-7 WiFi acess fine (other web sites, rss, email all working normally) Thanks |
Re: Can't download Apps in Application Manager
Those repositories are working for my N810 with same OS version.

Re: Can't download Apps in Application Manager
Is there someone from Nokia who can troubleshoot this problem.
I don't want to loose my N800. I still enjoy using it from time to time. With the new Maemo 5 when its available I'm sure my N800 will be more useful. If anyone can help us it would be much appreciated. |

Personally I don't like Application Manager; it hides too many details behind its fancy UI. If you really want to see what's happening, run "apt-get update" as root on command line and post the output here. |

Searching the forums tells me the default password, but the root account is locked out, so I can't use it, or sudo. Thanks |
Re: Can't download Apps in Application Manager
I'm facing the same problem. I'm pretty sure all servers are down: tableteer, as well as extras.
EDIT: Though this only happens from the N800 device, app-manager as well as apt-get update, as I can reach the servers from my ubuntu box. |
Re: Can't download Apps in Application Manager
no, they're not down. I reflashed yesterday and not 5 minutes ago installed rootsh from extras.

Re: Can't download Apps in Application Manager
Hmmm, well I still can't access these repositories from my N800.
What is weird is that I can't hit them via the web browser on the device either - just doesn't connect. EG, I've just now opened two new browser windows, one loading slashdot.org the other repository.maemo.org/extras/ on the device. Slashdot loads after a couple of seconds. But the repository never loads - I get a network timeout error. Even though I can load this same page on my desktop pc. Any ideas anyone? |

Also, you probably don't want to do this, but you can access root terminal using "sudo gainroot" IF you have switched the device to R&D mode. Obviously running the device in R&D mode is not recommended for end users. See Maemo wiki for more information on how to enable R&D mode if you really want to do that. Since you also have tried accessing the repository with the browser I'm not sure what good running apt-get as root will do. It may reveal some additional information but just as likely it may not. |
Re: Can't download Apps in Application Manager
Ok, all of a sudden now I can access these repositories.
I swapped from DHCP to static addresses for my WiFi connection. I don't know if this actually helped or was just a coincidence. But now its working in any case. Thanks |
Re: Can't download Apps in Application Manager
I'm also having a varient of this problem. Both nokia system software updates and maemo extras fail to refresh after clicking "check for updates". Yet when i download an applic from maemo downloads (using green arrow), both repos refresh (even if the file actually came from Chinook extras). This is annoying, I cant scan the intallable files list without installing something first. What gives?
