[Maemo 5] Last.fm scrobbler / audioscrobbler

When I listen to an audio file on one of my computers, the Last FM scrobbler notifies my Last FM account and updates it. Then the little widgetty thing on my scrapbook carries a note of what I was most recently listening to. Last FM can also be integrated to things like twitter (aggravatingly if someone you follow listend to a lot of music!)

I know that maemo will stream internet radio (which I assume means that next summer I will never struggle to find Test Match Special! Hooray!!) but does it have anything that will act as the Last FM scrobbler? If not, could it have?

Re: Last FM scrobbler?

There is maemoscrobbler and works just fine.Canola2 also scrobbles with last.fm plugin and Vagalume is for last.fm radios.

I hope we can have maemoscrobbler in n900.

The built in Media player utilizes MAFW.

Thanks. I would never have found that by its name.

Is the TuneWiki application a full player version, or just the useless lyrics-search one on the S60 Ovi Store currently? If its the full version it should have lastfm player functionality, along with all the other TuneWiki goodness...

Re: Last FM scrobbler?

MAFW is great for scrobbling, but unfortunately there still isn't any working Last.FM streamer. You can, apparently, use their website, but we all know that's not nearly as good of a solution as an app like Vagalume or Canola.

I wasn't able to get mafw-lastfm working... and it's too bad... it's one of the few things I'm missing right now.

Re: Last FM scrobbler?

The one in extras-devel seems a little broken. The version in its git repository has a control panel applet, where as the extras-devel version does not. Fine by me, but the extras-devel version does not create ~/.mafw-lastfm like it is supposed to so we can edit the settings manually, for the time being.

You probably have to use "-n" as parameter for echo in the command line when md5summing (the code in the documentation is wrong):

Code:

echo -n "yourpassword" | md5sum

Yep, you're right. It now works. Thanks a ton. Have you passed this along to the author?

I sent an e-mail to the author just now. This will be a non-issue as soon as the new version with the control panel applet will be released.

Has mafw-lastfm been removed from extras-devel/extras-testing? I don't see it anymore.

I'm trying to use mafw-lastfm so that I can avoid Canola in every way possible, but thanks anyways. ;)

I too was unable to get it working. I installed it, and found the last.fm settings in settings/Extras, but the icon was a "?", and after entering my lastfm username, and password, i could not find any mention of the scrobber in my N900, or media player. Am I missing something, like python or any other plugin that is needed to get this working or whatnot?

Thanks in advance.

[Maemo 5] Last.fm scrobbler?

Quick question!

Is there a last.fm scrobbler for Maemo 5 and the N900 yet? Would love to play some music on my N900, but I need it scrobbled :D

Thanks for any replies!

zerojay 2009-12-03 00:43

Re: Last.fm scrobbler?

Yes, you can find mafw-lastfm in extras-devel.

If you install it, you can go and edit your username and password in the Scrobbling Settings in Control Panel.

***** WARNING *****

Installing anything from extras-devel can potentially be dangerous to your phone as well as your data. The applications are unfinished and still in alpha and beta states. You have been warned!

Never tried mafw-lastfm but I would definitely recommend the excellent Vagalume! Big finger friendly buttons, intuitive interface with a good number of extra feature via menus.

As a previous N800 then N810 user I am really missing Vagalume on my N900 - Should arrive before Christmas though!! :)

Vagalume only scrobbles songs played through it though, not through media player.

Sorry, seems I misread OP in my excitement of Vagalume.

Re: Last FM scrobbler?

After reading this thread, I'm not much wiser on whether or not it's possible to scrobble my played tracks from the mediaplayer to lastfm.

I loved Mobbler on my N95, which had a lot of functions, such as straming, sugestions etc., but a simple scrobble function would suffice too.

Re: Last FM scrobbler?

So.. I tried too to get this working like this:

1. I installed mafw-lastfm from the extras-devel

2. Typed

Code:

echo -n mypassword | md5sum
in X terminal

3. Went to control panel point "Last Fm" and typed my Last FM username as plain text and password as md5 hash got from X terminal

4. Played couple of songs in Media Player, but they won't to scrobble

What did i do wrong? Thanks!

Re: Last.fm scrobbler?

Have you made mafw-lastfm work?

I have created user settings file (eg. set password and username) and I am trying to play some songs, but they will not appear on last.fm page.

I also tried to start manually mafw-lastfm from command line but it says this:

message failed, trying to send in 5 seconds.
retrying to queue message
message failed, trying to send in 10 seconds.

This will continue and seconds will grow but nothing happens. Any ideas?

Re: Last.fm scrobbler?

Is there an option to switch it over to libre.fm ? Or any other scrobbling service at that.

Re: Last.fm scrobbler?

Have you tried installing the latest update - it started working for me after starting it manually.

Stargazers 2009-12-09 14:57

Re: Last.fm scrobbler?

Can you explain a little more - how did you made sure that you have latest update and how did you started it manually?

Ruskie - If I am not totally wrong, you can add /etc/hosts line:
89.16.177.55 post.audioscrobbler.com

Eg. manually give IP-address to post.audioscrobbler.com where it will normally be sent, so in that case it will be sent to libre.fm servers.

Almost ;)

When I start playing a song, it shows up on last.fm as being 'currently listened to' but after some, maybe, 10-20 seconds it disappears again from last.fm and doesn't show up again even when the song has finished.

So at least the connection to last.fm works but there seems to still be some problems with the functionality (at least for me).

I'm using version 0.2.3 of mafw-lastfm. I just installed it, entered my last.fm credentials in the main settings and then rebooted the phone just be sure the mafw-lastfm daemon got started.

schettj 2009-12-14 17:35

Re: Last.fm scrobbler?

Working here if I manually start it in the shell (at least playing-now... waiting for song to finish ;) )

Should it have started automagically? Is there something we're missing on the install or setup?

schettj 2009-12-14 17:41

Re: Last.fm scrobbler?

Hm... well, it scrobbled the one song, and it still shows I am " Listening now using mafw-lastfm" but it doesn't have my currently listening song title.

Ah, and now it is ok. Seems like sometimes it tries to scrobble after it does the 'playing now' (lastfm doesn't show the playing now title) and sometimes it does the scrobble of the last song *before* the playing now song - then lastfm shows everything correctly.

Anyway, it works, other then the startup issue.

[Maemo 5] Last.fm Scrobbler: calling all developers

I'm calling all developers for help. Many have asked for a Last.fm Scrobbler - to no avail. The closest thing we have is mafw-lastfm in extras-dev, but most if not all can get this working.

I'm sure they'd be a lot of support, as I know many use this. This is the only thing I regret about the N900 thus far.

If you too feel the same as I do, vote above so we can get a rough idea of how many people this would actually appeal to.

If you are a developer and may be interested in either developing a new scrobbler, or improving the current one, please post below.

Thank you all in advance. :)

You can't expect everything to work within the first month + I don't think it's that important. Use your PC for that? Since when do we only depend on ONE device for EVERYTHING?

I'm not expecting everything, I'm asking for one thing. Why would I want to use my PC for scrobbling when I listen to the majority of my music whilst not at a PC?

Yeah, me too. Plus it can't actual sync normally played tracks I believe. It's main feature is internet radio I believe, but I'm just looking for a simple plugin that integrates.
