Re: FlipClock Beta
Would very much like to get this app installed on my N800 (OS2008).
I'm technically OK, but not in a Linux way! Still, ready to have a go. Can anyone point me to a step-by-step set of instructions for installing the package and its dependencies? Many thanks. |
Re: FlipClock Beta
I like this appl but can't wait when it will have working FM optiion in N900 :)

Re: FlipClock Beta
Just want to check something quickly as have done a quick search of the thread but haven't really come up with an answer - don't have time to read the thread in total depth now unfortunatley - have also looked at the bugzilla but it seems to be not recently updated?
Anyway, I installed Flipclock a couple of days ago and think it's something I'll want to use in the future BUT while it was installed my screen backlight stayed on (despite being set to go off after 30 secs, or indeed whatever I set it too..). Uninstalling the app has solved this issue -I wondered if it was a known bug or just a peculiarity of my system? Also, I did get a couple of issues with the alarm going off at seemingly random times which may be another bug or just my system (I have had both SES and Alarmed installed at different times but have uninstalled and not reflashed since, so it's possible something there was conflicting?). If someones come across either of these possible bugs before please let me know - or point me at the post where you saw them mentioned! Thanks :) |

Re: FlipClock Beta
Umm I installed Flipclock from Extras and unfortunately got Exitclock.
It shows up but when the seconds indicator comes to the end and it should flip it exits the program. Night button also exits the program. Settings and alarm panel work ok. Otherwise really nice looking clock, hope to get it running, any ideas what could be wrong? EDIT: I'm doing this on N900, latest firmware |

Re: FlipClock Beta
hi... hmm ok 49 pages to much to read. just let me mention some things i recognised after just installing your app.
first off all, if you are either in the options or in the menu to setup the alarm... you should make it clearly visible how o get back to the clock view. took me a while to find a way and i'm still not sure if swiping is the right way to get back. any chance to have an option to choose a playlist as something that should be played, instead of just one MP3? and one addition to this could be to make it user selectable if the playlist should be played in order or randomly. cu assetburned ps. if something was mentioned before and _not_ ignored then ignore this please, if not then see it as a feature request. :-) |
Re: FlipClock Beta
I am still testing this app and haven't got any consistency with the alarm as yet. Sometimes it seems to activate and sometimes it doesn't. I will try and see if I can find something a little more concrete and specific.

@Jolouis, somehow I activated the "timer" mode. How did I do that?

Re: FlipClock Beta
We're still hacking away at the FM radio for the N900 (what a pain that is! anyways we're making progress at least...). In the mean time:
Quote:
"any chance to have an option to choose a playlist as something that should be played, instead of just one MP3? and one addition to this could be to make it user selectable if the playlist should be played in order or randomly." On the alarm screen press the "Sound" button; it will change to "Folder". (if you have an N800 it will say FM; just press it again to get to Folder). This is the "playlist" mode, where you have fixed and random ordering options. It doesn't actually use a playlist (though that may be implemented as another option in the future), but simply generates a "playlist" based on all of the mp3 files in the target directory. Thanks! |
Re: FlipClock Beta
a bug for me on the N900 is that if you set insomniac mode over night - in the morning after you have closed the app the screen timeout does not work and so it is left on all of the time. So far, the only way around this for me is to go into N900 settings and change the timeout values. It doesn't even reset on a reboot either.

Others have mentioned that you can restore your brightness settings/functionality by going to the brightness controls and changing the dim time/brightness level; this will restore normal functionality as I understand it... The open bug for N900 Insomniac mode is here: https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/ind...=851&atid=3189 Thanks! |
Re: FlipClock Beta
jolouis: does the current N8x0 version have nixie tube mode?
I am still using an old version that has nixie tube mode, and I won't upgrade if I will lose them.... |

Re: FlipClock Beta
After flashing my N800, I cannot install the any Diablo version. I get a missing libhildonfm2 (>=1:2.0.6.1) Where can I find this file?
Edited: Sorry, I reflashed with an old OS. |
Re: FlipClock Beta
Heh, funny story :
Last night I put flipclock to wake me in the morning, in the morning I woke up 30 minutes AFTER i am suppposed to be at work, 1.5 hours after flip clock was supposed to wake me up. I carefully checked to see what I did wrong, It did trigger, but there was no sound. I suggest a mechanism to simulate the result of the configuration, so you can make sure it works, and get a warning if the application discovers it's not gonna make a sound. Example : 1. The moment I hit alarm ON, or exit the window, the program will : 2. Check the MP3 file exists / check FM antenna existence. 3. Check the phone is not in any silent mode if that stops it from ringing 4. Check the deamon is running 5. Notify the user if something is wrong. |
Re: FlipClock Beta
Just wanted to give everyone an update... Spenc3 and I are still working on this app, we've both just been sidetracked for the last few weeks as we've each been on vacation and busy with day jobs/etc. Anyways out goal set right now consists of:
1) Get FM radio support on N900 2) Fix insomniac mode on N900 3) Publish another theme along with details/instructions on how themes can be built Other minor bug fixes and features of course also need to be dealt with along the way. One of the major points is a "test sound" feature to make sure the MP3 you select will actually work.... though as I've been saying for the last 20 pages... if somebody could send me a sound file that DOESNT work I would try to see what the actual underlying problem is... as all the ones Spenc3 and I have tried work just fine... Thanks! |
Re: FlipClock Beta
Thanks for your work on this app. I will probably use it everyday when the bugs are fixed.
Regarding the MP3 playback for the alarm I find it very hit and miss. Using the same sound if I go in and set it and come out again it will probably play. However, if I go in again and browse a few screens of the app and go back out without changing anything I find that the sound will not play when the alarm is supposed to sound in the morning. So I can't say that it is because of a particular MP3 file as it will play sometimes and not others which leads me to believe that something is not quite right somewhere. |
Re: FlipClock Beta
Ive been using this app as an alarm clock on my n900 for the last few days.
Only problem problem ive found is that the alarm is very quiet and only plays once. It does get louder, but not much! Seems like the loop operation may only be active at full volume Any one else tried a very short mp3, 2 seconds or less? |
Re: FlipClock Beta
Quote:
I wonder about the underlying problem though. Does FlipClock have restrictions, e.g. max bit rate, for what it can play? Is variable bit rate supported? The mp3 that won't play as a FlipClock alarm is fine on Canola and Media Player, so the file itself is OK. |
Re: FlipClock Beta
flip clock (0.97-7) is now starting inself at random times and comming up with the stop/snooze dialog as if an alarm has just gome off there is no sound though.
Think Im going to have to stick to the N8x0 version for the moment! |
Re: FlipClock Beta
I upgraded (?) to 0.97-7 on my N800 and now I get no sound with the alarms. The stop/snooze dialog comes up, so flipclock *thinks* it's doing something. This morning I hit snooze instead of stop, and lo and behold, ten minutes later my wake-up song started playing.
I don't know if that's consistent behavior, but I'll try it every morning and see. This is a strange problem. I thought I was okay because I tested all of my alarms and made sure the songs played. I tested by setting an alarm a few minutes in the future, however none of them actually work at 6:00am when I need them. How can I go back to the earlier version that worked? |
Re: FlipClock Beta
great :) cant wait for the imsomniac fix on n900,great work guys!!

Re: FlipClock Beta
I'm still trying to get sound with my alarms. I have un-installed and re-installed a few times. I tried the "flipAlarmSync clear clear clear" thing, but that seemed to kill the alarm notification itself; previously the alarm would trigger with the stop/snooze dialog and no sound, but I didn't even get that this morning.
I've re-installed again, and I have a set of weekday morning alarms. I tested each mp3 file by setting an alarm a minute or two in the future and confirmed that the files I am using actually play in FlipClock. Along the way I found several mp3 files that FlipClock would not play but play fine in Canola. The real test will be tomorrow morning at 6:00 AM. In one of my earlier attempts, I verified the mp3 file would play for an alarm a couple of minutes in the future, only to find FlipClock completely silent at the appointed time the next morning when it mattered. I've seem some posts about problems with UTF-8. Some of my mp3 files have funny characters in the path, e.g. songs by Béla Fleck. Could that cause a problem even though I'm not using one of those files as an alarm sound? I love this app and came to depend on it as my morning alarm clock. I'm really frustrated that 0.97-7 doesn't work for me. I'm using an original N800, if that matters. How can I help debug the problems? |

Re: FlipClock Beta

On the N900 it seems flipclock only syncs the alarms, every second try. I.e. set an alarm, go back to the main screen... If you see the system message "Alarms synced..." it'll sound. If now you go reset the alarm to some other time, and go back to the main screen, it doesn't sync the alarm, i.e. no info message. Fliplock still shows 8 hours till the alarm, or what have you, but it ain't gonna sound. If you just go in to set the alarm again, don't change anything and go back to the main screen, it'll show the message "Alarms synced" and it'll sound then at the alotted time. This is the biggest catch... serious, I also learnt the hard way... |
Re: FlipClock Beta
Update: I had sound with my alarm this morning! Yay!! :D
Interesting about FlipClock on the N900 syncing the alarms only on the second try. I have an N800, and I think I've always seen the "alarmd sync'd" pop-up, but I'm not sure. I'll pay more attention to that one. Spenc3: I will send the full path and ID3 tag for a couple of the songs that FlipClock refuses to play. Also, I have no other profile set, and I didn't change profiles yesterday, so I don't think that's biting me. |
