Another "Wimax" article...

Quote:

A Nokia spokesperson yesterday announced the company’s intention to begin selling WiMAX-enabled mobiles during 2008.
....
Expect it to feature heavily in future devices, such as the successor to the web-surfing Nokia 770 (pictured above) and make the whole country your hotspot.
If accurate, this suggests that there won't be a 770 successor until 2008!...

I can assure you that the successor to the 770 is sitting on a bench in Nokia, Finland at this moment.

Is that a private opinion, or insider information ? :-)

Private, but extremely confident, opinion. Scared you, didn't it?

Drewvt 2006-10-15 23:20

In the state of Finland...

I hope it's not sitting there on the bench because its project leaders are plagued by Hamlet-like indecision as to whether the new prototype is a viable product... :D

Hmmm. If I could go away to Brazil, I'd really consider it... Ah, the Cariocas :-)

I have read several articles / press releases that indicate that Nokia is going full speed toward wimax in general as a data method. I have some concerns about wimax' focused RF power levels, but Intel has been on this for some time, so I suppose it is coming.

Nokia seems to be encouraging cell phone co's to install wimax instead of some of the other power hungry / slow data methods. I half expected Tmobile to go down this path in the US for data
