Try "fremantle" instead of "Fremantle" (small "f").

Re: n900 im app

Re: n900 im app

Welcome to the forums, XfrostX!

What chase said is correct, there is a program called Haze which will allow you to import msn/yahoo/aim/etc. contacts directly into the n900's interface.

One thing that chase did not mention is that Haze is currently in the Extras-Devel repository. This means that the app is still in the development stage, and it is generally considered not ready for public release. If you wish to add the Extras Devel repository to your device you are more than able to by following http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-devel that link.

HOWEVER, please note that these programs are not stable, and come with the possibility of bricking your device. Please procede with extreme caution if you aren't a power user/developer, as most regular users don't feel like reformating/reflashing their device should something go wrong.

Re: n900 im app

@Chapbass... thanks for clarifying that, all noobs need to beware of the dangers of the devel.

However, @XfrostX, you can use a plugin called butterfly that is in the Extras-Testing repository. This means its out of development stage but is not fully tested and hence not recommend for noobs. You need to enable the extras-testing repo (http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-testing).

Then go into App Manager, download, all & look for account-plugin-butterfly / account-butterfly-plugin (I can't remember the exact name of it!)

Hope this helps!

Chapbass 2009-12-17 02:38

Re: n900 im app

Nirave, does butterfly have aim? I didn't try it but from what I was reading I thought butterfly only had msn. Hence why I took the jump and tried out haze, but I'd rather do one in testing than devel if i can.

Laughing Man 2009-12-17 02:51

Re: n900 im app

Butterfly only has MSN. Haze can do AIM (and MSN but probably not file transfers).

hey people, I'm new to this forum and have only had the N900 for 2 days but I installed pidgin and it wont connect at all. I went into the App Manager and made sure the catalogues are all enabled (including extras testing and devel) but it's still not letting me enable my MSN or QQ account. everything else is working.

ps - anyone out here know how we can get Chinese input on it?

Hm, I deleted my account, uninstalled butterfly, rebooted, and reinstalled, seems to be working again, however, some contacts say online, but don't have the msn account showing. Very strange... damn you beta software, damn you.

Did you find that it duplicated your msn contacts, and if you merge two, your msn contact dissappears from your contacts?

No I dont get that.. it seems to work for me. I had some strange online contacts though, who were online but I could not send an MSN IM to them. I disconnected and reconnected and they were offline after that.

did it duplicate all your contacts after reintall ? or just those that you already merged?

getting the same problem, but with HAZE. MSN just refuses to connect, says network error all the time.

Re: [Maemo 5] Instant Messaging (IM) Client? AIM, GTalk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN, Yahoo, etc.

I 'm gonna use Jabber to import my MSN contacts. After 31 page of this thread all i saw is "MSN with Haze/butterfly isn't working, anybody else?". No extras testing or devel, so no risk at all, i think Jabber is the easiest way and the most stable. ;)

Good thinking.
I enabled testing and install Haze [? I think, the one with only MSN support] and it seems to be running just fine.

But I like the Jabber idea. I might try that again [didn't work too well when I first tried it a few years ago]

I am too, however if you hit ctrl + u while in pidgin it opens up the plugin option theres one for the send button but i have no idea where to download it from the description states that its location is: /usr/lib/pidgin/sendbutton.so

I hope somebody adds this and all the other plugins into the repository soon.

Where do i find a MSN app?

Yeah i know there have been several threads like this. But most of them are abit old, and i dont know if the programs/apps have gotten better.

I just got my Nokia n900 today, and i'm NOT a "geek" so i wont be able to do anything super fancy.

But i would like to know if there are any apps/programs out there i can get to use MSN. I know there were some, but they could cause problems for my device : /
Would be great with something thats stable and wont **** up my phone, any help is appriciated =)

PS. Dont even know how to install them, or delete them if i found anything to install D:

EDIT: Ok tried it with aMSN now, seems to be working nice enough, just slow on starting up, but hope it dosnt have any bugs or anything dangerous in it o.o

Have you tried visiting Pidgin's page in Downloads using the web browser on your N900 and tapping the green "Install" link?

I downloaded the Twitter Plugin yesterday from Extras-Devel and it's supposed to be integrated into Conversations but not sure how do you view a timeline of what people are tweeting. All I see are my Twitter followers and that's about it. Anyone else know what I'm talking about? It's called "Twitter plugin for contacts and conversations".

I like pidgin. Wish I could actually use the enter button on the virtual keyboard. Also is there a widget for any of these im apps? I keep accidentally closing pidgin :s

Also is there any way to only receive messages from people in my contacts list for msn? I keep getting spam messages on msn when using pidgin...
