Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
Leafpad is probably not going to be able to save the file because you need root privileges (unless you start it from the root shell, thanks for clarifying). I use nano, but that's not installed by default. The easiest way to do it is probably to edit the file and save it to MyDocs, and then copy it as root (from rootsh). Edit: Or to run Leafpad from rootshell. :)
And yes, that should work for playing them sequentially. |

It currently only plays the Grimar video when they are both listed, which is strange as it is actually second in alphabetical order, but if i just leave the maemo-bright.avi as the only one it will play that video... im workin on it as we speak and i am also trying to figure out a way to make contact shortcuts on the desktop be number specific which is also a big headache... |

Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
where do i find /usr/share/hinde... to add the avi file to relink it for boot
|
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
If you have changed the video, you can save precious space on the rootfs by moving the video to /opt and just making a link to it.
Here's how i did it with the fly-video installed (as root on terminal): Code:
cd /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media/ |
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
I download the avi file and would like to rename it as "Hands-v32-h264.avi" to make things easier. I don't want to boot different avis!
If I download maemo_flyby_xvid_lame_r3.avi, and rename it to Hands-v32-h264.avi. Do my device boot at play the new clip? If yes, where is Hands-v32-h264.avi located? |
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
Yes it will play the new clip, however i would make a backup of the original before modding anything, it is located in /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media
|
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
Do you know how to move maemo_flyby_xvid_lame_r3.avi from .document folder to /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media folder?
And please do you know how to rename files under xterm? Thanks, |
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
I am a windoze user so installed ssh client and server on my N900 and then used Winscp via wifi router to acess files etc.

Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
This is entirely cool -- the dark video is truly gorgeous on the N900 :)
So - out of curiosity - am I correct in thinking that simply leaving the /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media folder empty would result in no video played and faster boot times, or would it be necessary to edit the .conf file as well? Is there a way to simply comment-out the file name in that file if that's so? |

1) there is a gui on emelfm2, install it and it allows, file copying and renaming, etc, all like windows explore type graphic user interface. install instruction here, 2) Midnight Commander would do the same tricks as 1), both emelfm2 and MC are very powerful filemanager with a simple text editor Or sometimes, one can dl files to your window desktop and change names etc before transferring to your N900. I use openSSH and winSCP to take care things like this. step by step here bun |
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
I just updated my boot video. Hell yea, the flyby video running when I turn on the N900!
|
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
just set up the flyby video as well, looks really cool.
But it too ages to do, had to install MC get root, backup & rename some files useing the standard file manager. Then overwrite the file with the new one. Surely it shouldn't take like 10 min. |

I became root: root Then change to the directory where I want the file: cd /ush/share/hildon-welcome/media/ Then download the file: wget http://castus.dnsalias.com:8080/shar...id_lame_r3.avi Then edit the config: vi /etc/hildon-welcome.d/default.conf And in there edit the filename to the video. Then reboot to see your new video. For this to work you need rootsh to become root only by typing "root", and wget to download the file through commandline. |
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
Tell me please why the vol of the Flyby is very low (on start up) ?
It should be with lower volume? If i play this video in the Med. player, vol ok. Why this different ? Thanks |
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
I've got a little clip that I'd like to put on there that I can't get to play for some reason.. it's h264/MP3 audio just like the original Nokia movie, but for some reason, it's just a black screen when I load it onto the device..
Anyone have any ideas? Are there specific encoding settings that have to be used? Does it need to be 800x480? |
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
THANKS!!!!!!!!!! Flyby one is so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:-? my N900 plays not the sound :-? / but i did not read this thread until end :-/ |
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
Cool flyby vid. ;)

Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
So awesome, installed the _r3 one and it looks great :).
Did all thru the terminal, very easy tbh. |
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
I really like the "bright" video, but I don't want to have my N900 playing any sounds on startup, so I made a silent version with no audio track. In case anyone else wants a silent video, this command will do the trick:
ffmpeg -i maemo_bright_xvid_lame_r1.avi -an maemo_bright_silent.avi |
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
Do you have a command for increase the volume?
I'll try to change my video tomorrow... By the way, the fly video is awesome! |
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
Great work claesbas. I'm about to change mine to one of these as well.
Also, to all people here, great forum! I can't wait to see where this maemo journey is going to take us. Beautiful places that is for sure.. The blogosphere is buzzing. Techsites are raving. The n900 wave. |
Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)
@claesbas what programs are you using to edit your videos? I'm looking to make one of my own. Yours are nice but I'm looking for something personal.
Thanks for any help. |
