Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)

I have tried to link a video from another location:
#filename=maemo.avi
filename=/home/user/MyDocs/bootvideos/ {videofile}
It isn't working. I can comment a previous video, right? And, does the videofile need to be in the hildon related folder perse?

Hello

I tried to do the same thing because I wanted to free up space in rootfs.

You cannot put the boot video in MyDocs because it seems that partition isn't mounted untill the N900 has already booted up. But you could place it in /opt.

I instead created a shortcut (or symlink) to the video and placed the video in /opt. See this thread.

Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)

Hey thanks everyone for all this and thank for the details on how to do everything for beginners like me was easy in the end the only thing i found was the videos i put into the phone would only play on boot if i named them the same as the original hands video and left the cofig file name blank otherwise i had no video at all.

I now know the meaning of loong render times. Made a flyby camera movement and put it on render over night. I added the components logos in the bottom (if this is a trademark issue again I will delete them) at the end of the video. Lots of After Effects stuff here.. wish I knew Blender. I hear rumours that Apple Shake (old like 2.0 or 3.0) sources was released to some companies. There is a linux version of that. I wish someone stole those and made a open-soruce compositing package ;-).

It worked, but will only play 2 videos.

Hey Jnolcox

I tried creating another .conf file but still only 1 is playing.

Can you tell me what you did to make it work?
*********

I found how to do it.. seems like if you keep the original hangs video. It will not load the second video even if you put 2 .conf files. You need to rename the original video name then it will work.

Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)

I just renamed my video as the one that was there. Should note if not noted you need to have rootish installed to move the file... And a video editing studio helps too.

Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)

I've just come across this killer application called BootScreen by Valério Valério that lets you change the bootscreen with zero hacking skills. You don't even need to touch the terminal. Awesome.

here's the package site:
http://maemo.org/packages/view/bootscreen/

and here's the thread where all has begun:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=33000&page=7

did some scripting myself with using event.d for changing the bootvideo randomly on startup (and it works! ^^) but this app is better for endusers. :)

Did you selected one or more videos in bootscreen ? Are you using the "random" or "multiple" option ?

1. The program that runs the boot video.

2 & 3. There's a very good tutorial here (but must register to see):

http://www.symbian-freak.com/forum/v...p?f=50&t=41091

...or if you know some basic linux, it's simpler to just do this:

Use the browser to download the video to the phone.
Become root.
Do a 'cp' command to put the video in:

/usr/share/hildon-welcome/media

Then use vim or your favorite editor to do a quick edit to:

/etc/hildon-welcome.d/default.conf

Add a line for your new downloaded boot video and just comment out the original 'hands' video. Boom - done! I put claesbas' Maemo flyby video from the beginng of this thread on mine.

Or simply install the bootcreen application - http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...8&postcount=69

(Warning: The software hosted in extras-devel is not ready for normal users! - http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-devel)

Yes, a lot of users asked for a control panel applet(makes more sense IMO), sorry I forgot to update the description:)

Well you certainly had me in a panic for 45 minutes until I got the brainstorm of looking in Control Panel as a last resort. .....:D.... panic apart many thanks for a very smart app!

Made by myself ^_^ This animation is a year old or so, but I thought it was still nice to use it as BootScreen :D. Made with C4D.

Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)

Hi.......guys of the MC, I just got the boot screen app....after a treacherous hunt for the extra-devel repositories.....(but it keeps on saying "Application list is partially refreshed some catalogs unavailable. Check catalog details", When I click on it shows me the failed catalog is Maemo Extras-devel, despite this I still get the extra level apps, but I don't think all of them as the message above indicates. It has left me a lil confused, the app manager is running smoothely though.) Concerning the boot screen app, I was wondering if there was a website dedicated to providing a variety of boot videos for the N900 for download? I apologize if all of this has already been discussed and solved in previous threads, I just got my N900 this month and am still just taking baby steps with it before I go full throttle with it.

Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)

Hello everyone, I've managed to change the boot screen, it looks great but has much lower volume level than it should. Tried to change the master volume and restart but it doesn't change the situation nor changing the profile does. Anyone with solution for this 'problem'? Maybe modification of some .conf file used by the Hildon Welcome application?

Thanks in advance,
Bobi

Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)

How about making one with just the black background, and none of the "Open minds. Open Sources..." stuff on it?

These look really good, it's just that it looks like an AD now :) I'd like to just have Maemo appear and kick a little *** and fade out :) Or "orange out" like seems to be the custom in these videos of yours.

Thank you very much, I love it. The original video was starting to get on my nerves.

Am I the only one noticing slight lag around the middle? (I'm using the Flyby video on a non-overclocked N900 with PR1.2)

I've been trying to follow these commands, I commented out the video, I moved it into the indicated folder, etc, but when I boot up, all I get are the loading "dots," and then it goes straight to the desktop (no video). Any suggestions... please?

Go to your Application Manager, and download an application called called "Bootscreen Manager"

http://www.lookatbowen.com/gallery3/...g?m=1289044674

Once installed on your N900 it hooks into your Settings screen
http://www.lookatbowen.com/gallery3/...g?m=1289044673

One can now add as many videos as you like to your Bootscreen or startup.
http://www.lookatbowen.com/gallery3/...g?m=1289044925

In the screenshot above, I only have one video selected, but if I wanted both to run then I would have selected the second one as well.
