Well, at least I'm not the only one. I was thinking that maybe I wouldn't receive an e-mail until the N900 was ready to ship but since others have received an e-mail (well, at least one) I'm just a bit concerned.

Or any mail client set to put the most recent messages at the top of the list (instead of the bottom). Like Gmail, Yahoo mail, etc.

Re: N900 device program for maemo.org developers and contributors

How much longer do we wait in radio silence before calling the whole device program an elaborate hoax to harvest email addresses for Forum Nokia? ;)

Seriously, it's two weeks and counting, and not a peep from Nokia - just the usual black hole of communication. And I thought times had changed! ;)

Quim, as the public face of what is rapidly becoming a farce it would be awfully nice to know that applications are proceeding in an orderly fashion... I would have expected an email confirming receipt of my application as a bare minimum, even if the confirmation was sent manually a few days after receipt.

But to have received no communication after 2 weeks just leaves me to believe my email was not received, so should I send it again? Or do I assume it's being processed, take pity on the over worked FN staff by not spamming them, and then run the risk of not getting a device at all?

NOKIA: WHAT IS GOING ON?

Thank you. :)

We recommend you to use this option before the end of the year. We can't guarantee a discounted device for you after that date. In fact, the sooner you can answer the better since the requests will be dealt on a first come, first served basis.
The sooner the better, eh ? :)

Indeed, even if the Forum Nokia would be fast in checking our accounts, we still need to wait for the device to be available in stock.

So, there is no hurry at all!
Just sit and wait.. you've got it. It's yours.

I'm capable to read normal text, thank you.

Forum Nokia is also a customer buying your devices from the factory. They depend on the sales release like anybody else.

If you have questions about the situation of your request contact the mailbox specified in the invitation sent. They are the direct source. It's the third time or so I'm giving this advice in this thread. I'm also tempted using size=6 but I guess I'm old enough to have the Internet netiquette moral behind my neck.

I was tempted forwarding directly the URL of this thread to Nora but, to be honest, a few comments left here by a few people were totally embarrassing.

Conclusion: I expect all you to get your discounted devices as soon as they are available for sale. In the meantime you can just wait like anybody else or you can ask the DDP directly. complaining here with bad tone or adding posts to this thread with little or even questionable value doesn't help getting any device sooner, neither helps the DDP itself.

Thank you for your understanding. I hope this post helps clarifying ans settling things. The last thing we need now are flames in this thread.

Re: N900 device program for maemo.org developers and contributors

I'm not taking issue with the delays to the sales devices, what concerns me is the complete lack of response from Forum Nokia. You may be annoyed by large letters (not the intent, I assure you) but I (and I suspect others) are pretty pee'd off by the complete lack of communication from FN.

If we all email the DDP the poor woman will have to reply to every email, potentially hundreds (or ignore them all)... it would have been more efficient to get a single response here, just to let us all know what is happening, but I guess efficiency of communication is not a major concern.

OK, I tell you what, let me email the DDP and then I'll post any reply I receive here (in size=1 to avoid upsetting anyone). ;)

By default it works like this although you can turn the pile upside down. Although then you have to turn them around every time. If order not top priority (like here; compare with archives) can quickly resort them with hand.

Back when I subscribed for DSL almost decenium ago I ask friend who work on helpdesk dept. of provider to speed up the process. The story goes he 'bumped into the pile' and subsequently put my application on top. Lo and Behond, a few days later I received modem and it worked err well after they enabled my account which was half-forgotten (SSH access to shell account worked already). :o :D (anecdotal; not suggestive ;)

For those without credit card a service like Wirecard may be a solution. This provides a virtual debit card service without the plastic.

Disclaimer: before you sign up you assume I may be a scammer and hence read up about the service first.

Got it too, after a bit of greylisting. Apparently smtp.nokia.com[192.100.122.233] and smtp.nokia.com[192.100.122.230] are listed on spam.dnsbl.sorbs.net so if you haven't received anything check your spam filters.

The To: header it same as From: header. It is an alias. It was a mass e-mail sent to tons of people, most likely everyone. Probably because we're impatient. Now it is clear we all are eligible, we only have to wait. I will cancel my pre-order and order via Nokia DDP.

Hence, please, if you received the e-mail 'enabled N900 to your eStore account' on approx 10/30/2009 10:35:11 AM GMT+1 everything went normal and there is no need to state here you received this e-mail! If you not received the e-mail, check your spam filter.

@Quim: Sorry if you were offended by my previous post. Obviously my email to DDP seems to have had an effect, it's just a shame the DDP couldn't have been more communicative in the first place.

Of course, that email only postpones the pandemonium ongoing in this thread by another week at most. Give it a few days, and everybody will start getting twitchy and restless again. :)

Man... they got long list of people which got discounts. Now they have to read all those emails, check accounts, verify, enable n900 in eStore for each person, mail replies... For many people they have to send emails that they cannot find their data in system + link to online form. Then they have to check acounts and verify again.

All that is lot of work. Some of it can be automated but probably only some. Rest have to be done by humans. Humans needs to sleep too...

OK, maybe some of you did not get any answer from DDP and for those situation may not look good. But did you checked your spam folders?

And one more thing - n900 is not yet available so one week less, one more in DDP queue changes nothing.

Anyway - I got n900 enabled, time to wait now.

I don't think anyone wanted to complain about the generous discount program we have been invited to join, the problem is that the invite urged us to apply sooner than later as "devices would be offered on a first come first served basis"... applicants who replied promptly were left with no confirmation their application had been received and were left with the feeling they might miss out through no fault of their own. One option would have been to flood the DDP with email requests for updates, alternatively a quick update could have been communicated here. Better yet, receipt of confirmation should have been emailed to all applicants, and we would then have waited patiently for as long as it takes to get a quality device into the stores.

Hopefully improvements to the process can be considered for the next DDP, assuming there is one. :)

Oh yeah... well I don't respond well to direction.:p : I got my e-mail and since I posted in this thread previously that I hadn't, I thought it proper to report.

This turmoil, eruption, whatever verbiage you choose to describe the tumult in this thread was not a result of people not checking spam filters or someones impatience waiting for a sales release.
It was, imho a result of an if-then conditional statement that we ran and were still waiting on completion feedback from.

Not a physical device in hand kind of completion but the simple completion of the very basic instruction set. If we followed instruction "X" then it will result in condition "Y"...

...add to that the expectations of some that the e-mail addy was a bot and the interpretation of the eStore as a "go to" statement and you may find some spaghetti logic a cookin'.

Some of us are pretty basic fellows, and we could not continue, or continued very slowly while parts of us churned clock cycles waiting for a response. Sort of like "Rainman" and his need to watch "Judge Wapner" at 4:30 each day. :p

For what it is worth, I responded to the obviously real person who composed and sent this "mass" e-mail with my complete name and very warm regards. :)

...I have no dang clue.

Frank

Actually, I wrote a python service that ran every hour (via cron) and scraped the buy.com URL for the N810 to get its price. I had a target price that I was prepared to pay ($200), so as soon as it fell below this threshold, it would email me the link to buy it.

Worked like a charm....I even considered expanding it to be a 'shoppers assistant' to hunt for bargains, but then the rumors of the N900 started and I kinda lost enthusiasm.

PM me if you want the code

If I were you, I'd be concerned enough to email again (after double-checking it didn't go to your spambox). Even though I'm one of the few who heard directly from "Nora," I also got one of the en-masse emails ... makes me think that there's a problem for anyone who didn't receive one of the en-masse emails.
