what if it comes out the 15th... and then there is a huge note send out by nokia that every n900 has to be sent back because of a big hardware-failure that wasn't discovered.. so you could get it back end of january...

what would you do... what....would....you.........do?

i would actually send it back, and demand my money back. and go buy a phone from another company. thats what i going to do anyway if they dont release it by november.

It amazes me how many people in this thread are still talking about "x company says they should have it in stock today" etc when it was already mentioned earlier that Nokia will make an official statement once they are shipping.

Do we really have a reason to believe that will not happen? If not, guessing is pointless as no such announcement has been made.

Why would it amaze you? People are talking about X companies only because Nokia has been so damn lazy and ignoring their customers, and thats us. I honestly cant keep count of how many people are asking just for an answer from Peter@Maemo, not a specific date, just answers; nobody is absurd enough to request a specific date for a phone they have ordered (irony).

So why would it amaze you? of course you are going to find people looking around forums and googling for a specific date, its only because Peter is ignoring.
We should get a specific date, and they should keep their word. But no they don't, now the least they could do is show some respect and keep in touch, but no. Not that either. We don't even know why its being delayed, thats how much they are ignoring us.

To be honest, the only thing that amazes me, is that the most of us have not canceled their orders. I will keep my order, till the end of November that is.

PS
, sorry if im being rude to you, its nothing personal, its just that.. its to much you know. I would not react like that if they at least have told us why the delay, and why still no specific release date.

taxi = n97

While people are waiting, what they/we seem to do here, there is a fun article on a fantasy uPhone back in january 2007. I think the idea of it was to make an opposite of the iPhone or instead of a useless a useful device. (my judgement may be clouded) Anywho, the n900 meets quite a lot of these points if i have interpret the article correctly. which.. might be fun to read.

I don't know. I do think these things could be handled better. Nokia shouldn't announce a phone until they're more certain it's close to being ready to be shipped. Look at Apple, they announce a product when it's ready. Or look at the Droid and how quickly it's shipping after it's announcement.

Also, assuming what's going on with the N900 is that Nokia is still tweaking the software, then, as a Linux user, I'm used to at least some distributions that set deadlines for themselves way in advance and meet them. Ubuntu comes out with a whole new version every 6-months. Gnome does the same (and Maemo's Hildon framework is after all part of the Gnome project). Deadlines can be an effective way to be productive, if managed properly. Maybe the comparison to Linux is not a perfect analogy. But it seems like there are plenty of organizations that handle these things better.

Ultimately it's bad PR to get the early adopters all worked up about something and then drive them crazy with delays. My excitement and interest is already waning. It doesn't help the buzz for Nokia, if people just burn out waiting and lose interest. So I just think, if Nokia's not pretty sure it's ready, then don't announce it. Don't start the buzz rolling, if you're not ready to deliver while people are still excited.

You already have the dates from Nokia. They are 15th November and 30th November. The 15th is the target shipping/release date. But as we all know there can be unexpected problems with big launches likes N900's so Nokia has promised that the shipping/release happens no later than 30th November.

Amazon UK

I've just received an email from Amazon UK (shipping to Germany):

Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below was changed by the supplier, and we need to provide you with a new estimated delivery date based on the new release date:

"Nokia N900 Sim Free Mobile Computer with Maemo 5 Software"
Estimated arrival date: December 02 2009 - December 03 2009

Dispatch estimate: 29 Nov 2009 - 30 Nov 2009

Re: N900 shipping delayed

^Amazon UK are saying the same. I'm afraid it means I shall cancel, and rethink. I may still buy an n900, but I won't hang round waiting.

I think I'll wait until 25th November. If nothing happens I buy a HTC Touch Pro 2 or the HD2...

Hopefully Nokia won't let that happen ;)

Well mobilephonesdirect.co.uk are supposedly the first to ship the device in the UK. Why don't you contact them and see if they can offer you it sooner. If so go with them.

Their website says "mid November" which doesn't inspire a great deal of confidence. :(

Re: N900 shipping delayed

MPD sent this out:

Dear Customer

As you may have read in the press, we’re sorry to confirm that delivery of your new Nokia N900 stock has been delayed to mid November – Our N900 stock when it arrives will be the first in the UK and orders will be dispatched on a first ordered, first served basis directly from our Nokia stores. Be assured that you are top of the dispatch list for a new Nokia N900 and you will not get the N900 anywhere else before this date, which for the moment is exclusive to Nokia direct sales channels.

Please accept our sincere apologies for this short delay and we thank you for your patience. Having read several reviews and personally used a pre-production N900 running with Maemo 5 operating system, be assured that the new Nokia N900 will be very much worth the short wait.

If you would like to discuss your pending order please email us at webshop@mobilephonesdirect.co.uk. For more details of the Nokia N900 please visit our new Nokia Retail website www.nokiaretail.co.uk or our main website at www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk

and the day before they told me:

Hi,

Delivery of Nokia N900 stock into our Nokia stores has unfortunately been delayed by two weeks to w/c 16th November.

So I think they are shipping on the 15th/16th.

They have always given the correct release dates (as far a nokia has told them). The 30th, and now the 15th. I don't know why people are thinking the phone is going to ship sooner than this... well maybe if you ordered directly from Nokia. But amazon UK wasn't going to ship sooner than the 15th. I would blame amazon for not having the correct dates listed, and not Nokia.

RevdKathy 2009-10-31 10:32

Re: N900 shipping delayed

How do you know 'they have always given the correct dates as far as Nokia has told them'? Do you know what Nokia has told them? How do you know that Nokia didn't tell Amazon the 2nd Nov?

I don't see any benefit in switching from one supplier to another unless I can be sure I'll still be in the first batch of dispatches. I have no experience of shopping with them: what is their customer service like? How do they respond to returns? What if the device has a hardware fault and needs to go back? Those were my reasons for choosing Amazon.

Spudboy 2009-10-31 10:41

Re: N900 shipping delayed

MPD have always stated that they have an exclusive release date in the UK from the word go. They ship from their Nokia stores, and so their claims are a lot more reliable than Amazon in my view.

Regarding being part of the first batch - I don't know. That's why I said to ask them.

There customer service seems to be pretty good. All the info on returns etc is here:

http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/...ces/index.aspx

I've not done research on what Amazon offer however. I was just suggesting things.

RevdKathy 2009-10-31 10:51

Re: N900 shipping delayed

I know what MPD say on their website. But there are companies out there who say on their website that they have n900 in stock. I have no reason to trust them. I am not a very trusting person when it comes to online suppliers: I don't even have a lot of confidence in the nokia shop itself.

Now, if lots of people come in and tell me that X supplier is reliable, trustworthy etc, then I might be persuaded. Otherwise, I might go see what Carphone Whorehouse have in stock and can sell me over the counter. Or stick with the supplier I know.

Spudboy 2009-10-31 10:58

Re: N900 shipping delayed

Well, I would have thought that if you had to put some amount of confidence in any route to getting an n900, Nokia shops would be the best bet.

Which UK companies are saying they have the n900 in stock?
