Media Converter 1.2
I've now released Media Converter 1.2.
Basically it's a very nice update, some major improvements like user definable target directory, but most of all: improved quality. So, it's a definately recommended download for anybody using media converter. Download links and stuff in the blogpost here: http://konttoristhoughts.blogspot.co...-released.html |
Doesn't work for me on XP. It creates empty files in the designated directory (haven't tried it yet with the old 'put in a 770 folder'...)
EDIT: nope, the old method creates an empty file, too |

I didn't try below "medium" as I don't use those settings. |
Odd.. While I tested it, I had no problems what so ever.
I did hear from someone that there were problems encoding .vob files (they apparently worked in 30 preview mode, but not in full mode). Could you send me an example video that doesn't word so that I could debug? urho.konttori@gmail.com |

(Did not yet get to work at all with ubuntu dapper-quick test, propably I'm missing something important) |

Maybe it is a codec problem? Version 1.1 could handle the same files fine, though, with 2 passes and everything. |
Sounds odd enough. mencoder is the same executable. I wonder if the setup file is somehow corrupted on the site. I'll have to check by downloading it from garage myself.

Cool, thanks for help to all of you guys in debugging the 1.2 beta.
1.2 Final is now available. Check on some notes and DL link at my blog: http://konttoristhoughts.blogspot.co...-released.html |

As I am converting most of my old VCR collection into Divx files, not being able to convert those to the 770 is a bit of a problem for me. |
How do you get the audio and video to sync? I'm finding that with the 770 video plyer it's way out and with mplayer for the 770 just a little out. I'm using wmv files. Is there a setting in the interface for this?

If you could send me one of the files, I can have a look at why they aren't converting. Divx files should work just fine. At least on any other platform but osx PPC. I'm trying to get a better encoder for PPC version tomorrow. What platform did you use? Also, can you try installing the 1.2 final (not beta). |

We should have how to config audio delay added to the mplayer wiki as it's pretty useful. Quote:

Ok, Tweak, Drewvt:
I'll add audio delay to the next version. Have you noticed any repeating delay patterns? Or should I just add a single text field that you can input your audio delay? |
After a few more tries (and after uninstalling and re-installing MC), I found out that it's the second pass that kills the Divx file: If I use only one conversion pass, it plays nicely, both on Windows media player and on the 770. Strangely enough, VOB files can withstand the second pass. This was all done with the final version 1.2 on Windows XP SP2 (sadly :o ).
I should add that I don't use mplayer on the 770, just the built in media player. I've never had any out-of-sync audio problems with it. |

Thanks, I think the audio delay text field would be useful for when using the 770 video player for the more out-of-the-box consumer type user -- it is after all in our interest to get this mainstream -- and the keys solution good for the 770 mplayer, for those who are happy playing around with betas.

Regarding MPlayer and audio delay problem. I myself don't have any video with such issues (converted to mpeg4+mp3 and stored in avi container) to experiment with. Audio output module which uses gstreamer is not quite reliable regarding audio/video sync and there seems to be quite troublesome (if even possible) to implement it in a correct way, but at least it is not so bad in its current form. So providing a link to some video sample with this problem at mplayer garage trackers may help to investigate it (well, I think, I'm asking this a third time already with no reaction, does it mean that people are not that much interested in a correct audio sync even without manually tweaking it? ;)).
As for audio delay settings for those who need it, thay can be added in OSD menu in the next version. Also I think about remapping '+'/'-' buttons to seek +-10 minutes instead of current audio volume control (volume can be changed from OSD menu even now). |

I think audio/video un-sync'ed really detracts from any serious use of the 770 to watch recorded TV. It kills the experience. I don't know why you're not getting much interest in this subject but I'm not even trying to stream. FYI I'm doing Slingbox to At Large Recorder WMV to the AVI 770 which I would have though would be a common application. Mplayer is much better than the 770 client though -- which is unusable. When I get a moment I'm going to mess around with the manual settings mentioned earlier. Thanks for those. I can post some video, but I can't figure out how to do it.

I would appreciate if you could send me a file that you are having problems with. I take it that you are having problems in the conversion with media converter. Have you tried opening the converted file in your main computer? Does that have loss of sync as well?
If you can record a short clip and send it to me, it would be wonderfull. My email is urho.konttori@gmail.com |
Hey Konttori, I'm trying to send you a sample, but I now can't get Media Converter 1.2 to work. It's creating empty files. I installed Windows Media Player 11 and due to incompatability with Napster have rolled back to WM10. Other changes to my machine is IE7.
|
So, I guess Media Converter Was working, but after you installed WMP 11, it's no longer working. Interesting, although sounds a bit odd. Are you trying to convert WMV files then? Have you tried converting other files (like a random divx or something)?
Anyway, send me an example file and I'll try to see what's up. |
Thanks I've sent the empty file. I've not tried to convert anything other than WMV.
|
Hey Konttori, did you get it?
