The reason why it doesn't work is because some of the symbolic links point to the icons in their optified locations that quite frankly don't exist, and when you try to start VLC you apparently click through the non-existant icon to the desktop. (Every time I tried it opened my RSS feeds...)

To fix this annoying issue, you need to remove the symbolic links for these files with root privledges, namely:

rm /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/hildon/vlc.png

rm /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/hildon/vlc.png

rm /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/hildon/vlc.png

and give your device a reboot so it can find the icon.

Good find! I'll let them know so it can be fixed in the next release, along with the broken rtsp support.

been playing around for a few mins, quite impressive =] pity visualisations dont work, but you cant have anything
as for playing video files, everythings nice and smooth so far

Icon dosent work though, shortcut in menu show blank.

Edit: Deleting the symlinks described earlier fixed the missing icon. thx :)

works nice.
haven't tried an mkv, as i have none on my phone.
i tried a few streams and it worked, though it struggled to handle the video feed. wonder how i could play with some settings to fix this
