Re: VLC Player Officially coming

i have tv programs saved on the net, and when i try to watch them with N900 microb says "missing vlc plugin" i have vlc installed. and if i try to open an url in vlc player, it does nothing, possibly because the site needs a username and a password. so is it possible to install vlc plugin for firefox or opera browsers? or is there something else i could do to watch the programs with N900?

Can I request that Rock Player be ported over instead? Finding that is better performance than anything in the Maemo camp.. :(

same problem here. as soon as i open vlc the cpu usage goes up to 100% (even without playing any video files).
didn't find any solution to this problem yet.

So, is someone actually going to do it so that we don't feel second class to Android?

Re: VLC Player Officially coming

I don't think vlc guys are anymore serious about maemo port as was the case with symbian port.

Re: VLC Player Officially coming

Just curious. What would VLC for Maemo5 bring new to the table?
I'm using mplayer + SiB and I don't feel the need for any other player.
Unless VLC on Maemo5 can play 720p files, what more will it bring?

Well, I guess wouldn't mind HW acceleration for H264 which mplayer doesn't have....

I'm was hoping that I could stream TV from my HDHomeRun. That would be something cool

Well the Maemo one wouldn't be that different as the Android port.

So, rather than compiling the whole thing myself, I downloaded the debs. Am I correct that there is no sub support? If so, my only reason to have VLC installed has gone, as I was searching for an easier way to give myubtitles with her movies and VLC would enable her to do that without command line.

Mplayer should play RTSP-streams.

You can get 1.1.0 officially here or unofficially 1.1.5 from here or you can build it yourself.

Re: VLC Player Officially coming

I downloaded vlc and it works good. Instructions:

Go to Menu->Application Manager and, in the applications catalog, add VLC repository as follows:
- Catalog name: VLC
- Web address: http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/maemo
- Distribution: fremantle
- Components: free

After that, you can find vlc in the list of downloadable apps.

reboot and then try again. seems like apt-get is working in background.
or try top to find out the process and kill it.

Re: VLC Player Officially coming

Download all files to your PC then connect N900 to PC and copy to any folder on your phone.
Run xterminal forward to folder where you paste all files and then
Code:

dpkg -i *vlc*.deb
i tried to upload zip file here but for some reason its not uploading gives me an error.

Look on page 26. You need to erase some symlinks by using the console. Once you've done that, reboot the n900 and you're ready to go.
