Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Whow, finally a player wich lets me chose between 2 audio lines. Works really perfect on my xvid files without any lag!
Edit: VLC is using 100% CPU all the time during xvid playback (I've overclocked with titan's ideal kernel @ 850Mhz). The phone does also get pretty warm, battery is fading away. |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
i have some .mkv-files with multiple audio-streams (2 languages)
can you switch between them with VLC on the n900? |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Try pressing "B". Changing audio streams in xvid files works great this way, so i guess it'll also work on mkv's
|
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Yes it's working with .mkvs too.
But my N900 is not able to play 720 or 1080p .mkv's. So I need to convert it anyway. |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
I don't know where you guys are getting all these positive results... even the CLI VLC runs gawd aweful for me... even compared to the default media player.
Am I missing something? |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
How do I refresh the library showed in VLC ?
Added some new videos that are not getting shown. |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
how do i play media through my network on vlc? cant seen to find the directory
|
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
This player support rmvb? The one on the desktop supports though!
|
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
When will this app get finished as in retail release? I know it's free and all, but how long? It looks like it's going to be an amazing player already!

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
I just found out, that when i open the GUI of VLC player the CPU usage automatically goes up to 100% (without opening any media).
anyone experiencing the same weird behavior? Edit: when i open a movie files in x-term with the command cvlc i get about 60% CPU usage at 600MhZ while playing the movie. So it seems that the GUI pushes the CPU usage up to its maximum. Anobody knows why this is happening? I'd really like to use VLC as my default player with the GUI! |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
I couldn't find my N900 anywhere! But I knew it was somewhere around the house... So I ssh'ed in to the N900, and used vlc to play an mp3... then I just listened for the music!
Turns out it was outside on the back deck... |

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
I have installed vlc, but when I load a video (tried both sd and 720 mkv's), I get audio but the first frame of the video just freezes.
Is there something I can do (without having to convert files)? |

IIRC any video over 800x480 will lag. |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
I don't need it to be HD, but a lot of the files on my htpc are HD, and I like to just copy 20 or 30 onto my n900 every so often. I'd like them to play, even if not in HD :)

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
720p files actually play using RockPlayer on Nitdroid on the N900. Well, it's not watchable (~5fps), but sound plays fine at least. On Maemo5, it does not at all due to some form of video card driver limitation. Well, it would be much more watchable if DSP kicked in but right now, it's all CPU and obviosuly it's not enough.

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
how can I install it on my N900???!!!!! My knowledge about x-terminal and ... is just ZERO!
|
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
- install rootsh
- go to terminal - sudo gainroot - apt-get install vlc |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
"unable to lock the administration directory"
what should I do now? |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming

if yes closed it and wait few minutes |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Couldn't find package vlc |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Download these files, you can download from here:
http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/maemo/vlc/ save them where you are in the terminal libvlc5_1.1.0~git5935-1_armel.deb vlc-nox_1.1.0~git5935-1_armel.deb vlc-player-nox_1.1.0~git5935-1_armel.deb vlc-player_1.1.0~git5935-1_armel.deb then run 'dpkg -i debfilename' for each file in the order as below but seriously it doesn't worth the try there is still bugs |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
right now i would not recommend to sina any fooling around in xterm. Letīs ask this: Do you know how to backup and completely and then flash your device? If yes then go ahead and experiment your device. Otherwise please learn first to backup and flash your device to factory settings. Remember that you are holding "computer" in your hands and you have all the power to fck it up completely :)
|
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
sooo true :D
|
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Thanks a lot clovis.
package not installed (I really don't know why), but I'm happy that finally I learned a little about terminal! but I've a question : if the command was dpkg for installing them, so what was apt-get ??? and why these files are not graphically installable (like windows)??? isn't that more user friendlier??? (I'm new to ubuntu (4 months), and I have this problem with that to) |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
- dpkg is installing deb files that you already have downloaded
- apt-get install is checking the repository and downloading the file and installing it Vlc is still in beta status so not available in any repository |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Hey guys why are you making this complicated ? :D
@sina Create a new catalogue in app manager URL: http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/maemo/ Distribution: fremantle Components: free search for vlc and install |

DO NOT INSTALL STUFF OUT OF official repositories if you do not know how to backup and flash your device! This is not Windows where you can install stuff lying around in different webpages. (actually you can but itīs not recommended) |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
So, i got it downloaded and installed with no problems, but when i try to run the app, i just get a black screen for 1 sec, and it goes back to normal, but vlc doesnt start.
Anybody? |

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
@HellFlyer
Thanks a lot, finally I have it! I had tried it, but with a little difference : "components: main" instead of "free", and that was because of this : http://download.videolan.org/pub/vid...mantle/Release @slender Don't worry. I don't need to know how to backup and flash my device from now, internet is always in access for these problems. and next time when an amateur like me asks a question, if you know how to help, help her/him, if not, please just don't try to make her/him disappointed! Thanks. |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
and thanks again clovis86.
