I was just trying to help you with possible headaches that could be around corner. ps. By referring that you have always acces to internet i hope that you mean mostly google (power search here). |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
slender is right, made some regular backup beacuse if your N900 won't boot anymore after an appz installation, you may loose your data, contacts, emails or whatever file you used to have

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Thank you hellflier!
I see that people get xvid playing, but mine just freezes at the beginning? |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
where can I download proper stable version of VLC player for N900?
|
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
is it possible to add subtitles to vlc? afaik it's only possible via command line, can someone explain how?
|
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Yeah! Finally Videoplayback in background while checking my eMails! :D
Only some small speed optimations are needed... But why don't turn the video playback off while in background and keep only the audio playing? |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Where I can download this player, thanks...
|
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
I just installed the VLC.
Thank you for notes and inputs guys, you are great. Now I can run most of my moves. If someone can add subtitles support, it will great. The VLC can be controled with keyboard buttons: F - fullscreen A - change resolution, I prefer 16:9. If you have no sound, please make sure you are on General profile, not Silent. Thank you |

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
I downloaded via repo (the larger one 10.2 mb) and now in apps I sww it listed my name but with no icon. clicking on the name or in the blank space where an icon would usually be does not start it. I rebooted and it's the same....
|
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Look at page 26, there is solution for missing icon and also solves playing.

for me it was working with bugs
reboot if press backward when playing cpu hog always running 100% half an hour on a full charge rm /opt/usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/hildon/vlc.png rm /opt/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/hildon/vlc.png rm /opt/usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/hildon/vlc.png this will work |

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
The bug should be fixed and new version exported to the repository.
I do not think VLC is meant to be a program which needs hacking on the terminal window. |

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Hi,
Today I installed vlc player (with streamer 10.x MB). when tried playing video (.vod file), It plays audio well but video playback is not at all smooth, it skips lot of frames. Mplayer shows smooth video w/o audio since audio codec is not supported by it. I have also removed vlc.png symlinks and can see vlc icon. when tried playing using command line I get error as avcodec decoder error : more than 5 seconds of late video -> dropping frame (computer too slow?) From error, it is clear that cpu is not fast enough. Pls let me know if vlc works smooth on over clocked cpu. ? |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Actually I disagree. I think the N900 is fast enough, VLC just isn't finished, not finished at all. Plus the .vod format you were playing is nothing really common, especially not on mobile phones.

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
yes, .vob file needs more resources. I tried playing with command line cvlc with following options and it give acceptable performance with .vob,
cvlc --ffmpeg-hurry-up --ffmpeg-skip-frame=1 --ffmpeg-skip-idct=1 <video_file.vob> I am planning to overclock my device to 850Mhz. Will update performance with that. |

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
yes, .vob playback needs more resources and running it on mobile device is too much. while playing with command line cvlc, few options give acceptable performance.
cvlc --ffmpeg-hurry-up --ffmpeg-skip-frame=1 --ffmpeg-skip-idct=1 <video_file.VOB> (http://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_command-line_help) I am planning to overclock my device to 850Mhz. Will update this forum for same video playback speed. |
Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Seems an awful lot of work to get a resource hungry app to work on a two year old portable chipset. Not to mention needs OC to play decent and that means short battery life.
None the less, your tenacity is to be commended :) That said and based on the original date of the first post, this app has been coming for almost a year now. |

Re: VLC Player Officially coming
Yesterday I upgraded to power kernel (settings) and over clocked device to 250-850Mhz (ideal profile crashed couple of time). Vlc player failed to play same .vob smoothly. Command line cvlc could play it better with single option --ffmpeg-hurry-up .
It seems --ffmpeg-hurry-up is suppose to be default enabled in VLC player (as per http://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_command-line_help) but installed vlc player dosn't have it as a default enabled. Enabling --ffmpeg-hurry-up enabled in VLC can improve speed, [ from http://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_command-line_help --ffmpeg-hurry-up, --no-ffmpeg-hurry-up Hurry up (default enabled) The decoder can partially decode or skip frame(s) when there is not enough time. It's useful with low CPU power but it can produce distorted pictures. (default enabled) ] |

Also same time please fix the --ffmpeg-hurry-up as default issue (see above) also. |
