Who are maemoexperts?
I ask because they suddenly appeared in my twitter stream overnight.
They are sporting part of the maemo logo as their twitter image, so they look bona fide. But their website address just tells me that they recently registered it with a given webhost (in other words, it doesn't exist yet). They are based, they say, in London. Are they good decent maemo people? Or a rogue spin off ? Or rabid competitors? Or a bunch of closet iphone fans trying to desctroy maemo from inside? Enquiring minds need to knw. (Well, this one does) |
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
Yet another blog/tech website about Maemo ? ;)
|
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
I've got a feeling that they are good people. Should really help and encourage each other.
What do you guys think ? |

Re: Who are maemoexperts?
This is one of those small reasons I don't like the sudden popularity of Maemo... all sorts of bloggers trying to capitalize when they know nothing.
I can't speak about this one in particular though. |
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
Yeah I followed them on twitter for a while and it should really be renamed "maemorumours" because that's what they post. And they post a lot of it too.

Re: Who are maemoexperts?
At this point Nokia provide us information, we give out information, nokia changes their minds, give us more information and the vicious circle continues and we do also post a lot of Maemo and general OS related posts.
Hopefully all markets should receive the N900, well sooner or later (lets not go into dates) and then we can get down to business. On the tech side, don't worry lads, theirs a lot of fun in store, we got over 20 years of systems experience behind us. Plus, I know we've started influencing a lot of people towards Maemo, which can only be a good thing, instead of iPhones, which is no mean feat with how Apple do their marketing. Lastly, lets not fight or put each other down. Thats not good for anyone |
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
I agree about not fighting or putting each other down, but using the word "experts" in your name (and using the maemo.org colours and fonts for your own enterprise), when nobody in this forum has heard of you, isn't a good start.
It's a bit of a chip on your shoulder, you know? |
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
I didn't realise it would be taken like that. Hopefully all will be well that ends well.

If you really are there to post the latest rumours, call yourself Maemo Rumours... I'd certainly follow such a site! And because there's the word "rumour" I wouldn't be disappointed if an item turned out to be inaccurate, because that comes with the territory. |
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
I've only posted release dates that Nokia have given to me. They weren't put across as rumours. The rest is factual information.
|
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
Well, what IS it that you want the site to do? Just publish whatever Nokia hands to you?
|
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
Humility is dead. Long live humility.
Maybe it's time to resurrect humility by all of us migrating over to maemoidiots.com. At the same time, we register maemoghosttown.com. That, of course, just becomes a redirect to maemoexperts.com. |
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
Just some feedback as you did ask for it:
-As Qole said, using a logo similar to maemo.org is a mistake, it makes it look like you're trying to be something you're not. -Don't mention shops and advertising on your site's front page, no one will visit your site for commercial reasons. You MIGHT eventually be able to make money from the site, MAYBE, but that won't happen if you're so up front about wanting to make money. -The word "expert" is one of those things that only other people should use, you should never use it about yourself, especially if you're new to the scene you're writing about. You should use it about other people, especially certain people on this forum (not me! I'm still an idiot like I was in the tablet school days...). -Just so you know, it is really, really hard to make money from this kind of thing in the long term, even when you have lots of visitors. Realistically the best you can hope for is to have a small supplementary income, and maybe be loaned some cool gadgets. |
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
Thanks for the constructive feedback Krisse. It as certainly given me something to think about. As a lot of you dont know me, my intention was not to come across as arrogant and your feelings have been noted.

Re: Who are maemoexperts?
Maemoexperts, the name isn't THAT bad, but the main thing is this:
If you want a good reputation among Maemo users, you have to do something of your own. It's no good just passing on stuff from other people, you have to create something yourself which is of value to others. |
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
I hopefully will contribute. Thanks again for the advice.

Re: Who are maemoexperts?
Maemoexperts, I've blocked your twitter account for the endless retweets and the spreading of false release dates. (And the usage of 3? twitter accounts to spread each tweet?)
I don't question that you got the info from your Nokia sources, but the tweets sounded like fixed information and promises. When those turn out to be mistaken, it creates a lot of confusion and anger. Please think about the damage done with this over-enthusiastic approach. |
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
I think I was being "over enthusiastic", and I'd say my main fault was listening to and believing Nokia, to that extent, If I have to carry some blame I also need them to carry some blame as well.
I got promised that the information was true and time again and again the goal posts would get shifted. You live and learn. |
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
I think what strikes me is that you may (or may not) eventually become experts at maemo. But you aren't very expert in your people skills.
You title yourself maemo-experts, without it occuring to you that the people who've been working with the OS, and shaping what it's become, might feel a bit miffed. You register several twitter accounts and tweet when actually you don't yet have anything to say. Your faith in the reliability of what Customer Service Operators say is positively touching in its naivity. If your website is going to succeed (and I hope it does - the more Maemo the better) you will need not only a good quantity of real, hard information and opinion to offer, but also some understanding of the people who will be reading it. Good luck. :) |
Re: Who are maemoexperts?
maemoexperts just carry on doing what your doing now, 1060 followers on twitter in a couple of weeks says your doing something what people want to see already , so dont change your style on the opinion of a few acting like they know whats best. just differentiate between rumoured info and official/real info by stating so and readers will be happy
