It looks so good, I live in barcelona, and I will assist. I'm very happy :D.

Sorry, still not registration officially open. Due to a very simple and somewhat silly problem: I don't know how to edit a couple of fields in the registration form. See http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=115 for more information. :(

Valerio and Ferenc are working hard fixing the registration. Thank you!!!

Please post the registration URL in the 2 threads related to the event and the wiki page. I will put more time this evening processing the first sponsorship requests so people can start requesting their bookings. I will also complete the wiki page and the event page with current information.

http://maemo.org/news/events/registrations/

Those of you willing/planning to go to http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo-Barcelona_Long_Weekend please register there

In the registration you will see different focus areas. There are potentially 3 activities in English with international scope:

- UX meets Code (confirmed)
- Localization workshop (if there is critical mass)
- Documentation workshop (idem)

And there are two activities for local/Spanish audience: developer training and presentation of the N900 (end user friendly activities).

We will confirm the schedule based on the registration. Any questions, just ask.

EDIT: Yes, we have budget to sponsor travel and accommodation of selected participants. Register soon!

Please share as much details as reasonably possible about the Documentation part especially. That's my main interest in that list, and if/when you do this for the Americas I'd like to be up to speed.

I've registered for the event, am I also supposed to put my name on the wiki list or is registration enough?

qgil 2009-11-13 03:51

Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

No, the wiki list is now obsolete. I started it when it looked like we would have "only" a workshop with 50 people.

The Documentation part. Tero Kojo came yesterday with the idea and I said why not, if there is enough interest. A good chance for the Wiki group and the doc crowdsourcers to meet.

Americas. 1Q 2010? But no idea at this point since we want to see first a successful Long Weekend in Barcelona. US and Brazil (OpenBossa) are two candidates and, who know, maybe we can take both. Again, it would depend on the demand.

But we will do something and for this reason we might have very limited amount of Americans sponsored. Not because we don't want you but because we want you so much that we are going to organize another hackfest for you specifically.

Games is a topic that would almost deserve a hackfest in its own. Can you open a new thread?

Hi all!!
I'd like to assist to the general audience event.
Which time is planned to the presentacion of N900 and the developer training?

Thanks!

I will start approving sponsorship requests right now.

If someone can create the /Accommodation page with the 15 double rooms... You know the deal.

Also if someone can help making the wiki page nicer... I asked in the UX thread in the Design forum without success. :(

Schedule, we still haven't nailed it down. But we have at least 2 developers/trainers confirmed for the GTK+/Hildon track and 2 for the Qt track. Friday will be the "user friendly" day, although... depends on what is the demand. We have got basically the whole building during 3 days.

qgil 2009-11-13 13:14

Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

8 sponsorship requests approved, most of them related to the UX meets Code hackfest.

I have in the waiting list requests of people more relatedm to the Localization or Documentation workshops. I'll be clear: if you help getting a critical mass of contributors involved then we will be able to organize such workshops and you will have big chances of being sponsored. As for now it is unclear that we have enough people to organize them.

Fingers crossed :)

Seriously, I am more interested in the UX track but in all honesty it's more because of what I'd like to learn rather than what I already can contribute. For that reason, I put Docu as main interest: in that context, I believe I could be a net contributor.

Would be nice if someone split the info in subpages with a nice index (some 'templates' below), but please add the 'Events' category to all subpages and do not use CamelCase in the subpage names (otherwise GAN will kill you ;) )

I changed some things now. Is the content of the section titled "Interested?" still valid? If not, I think we can remove it now (or at least the "add yourself to this thread" part).

Also, I think it would be nice if you could make a list of all threads related to this event here and specify which is for what (i.e. one for the UX meets code event, the other for project proposals, another one for the localization event, etc..).

Or (depending how quick you want to have the list of projects finalized) maybe we can also open another wiki page for project proposals to have a better overview?

I have edited the page and added a section in Accomodation for people looking and (more important) willing to host sponsored partecipants in Barcelona.

Hosting in Barcelona

Thanks for whoever is willing to host.

PS: I am particularly interested in this option as a member of CouchSurfing and as a means to share more (culture, ideas, knowledge) with people at the HackFest.

Currently we don't have any iconography for the event, which means that the badges we make will have the minimum: the text fields we had in the Maemo Summit.

If someone wants to create an iconography then the badges are the less critical support. Wiki page and perhaps t-shirt (if it's cool and it's done soon) would go first.

...or I could just build off what I did for Maemo Summit 2009, either way.

qgil 2009-11-13 22:05

Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

The agenda of the Long Weekend is a lot more relaxed, with most people supposed to be mainly in one type of activity. It's just one building quite near from a train and a metro station. The default audience are locals and the ones coming from other places will probably stay in a hotel 400m away.

The level of complexity is quite smaller and this is why I think a simple badge to identify yourself will be just enough.

Is there any generic text/email in English & Spanish for promotion ?
I've a friend studying at Barcelona that can do some promotion inside his university.

Thanks.

We've added a documentation hackfest for Barcelona.

Anyone interested in attending for the documentation hackfest should
register ASAP indicating that you wish to attend so that we can gauge
numbers. We're looking forward to a productive session defining the
needs of developer documentation in Maemo, and working together to
improve the existing documentation as well over the weekend - maybe the
Intro pages for maemo.org?

Suggestions welcome.

More details and discussion in this thread.

Dave.

45 people registered at
http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo-Barcelona_Long_Weekend - 11 of them with accepted sponsorship. Hurry up if you want to join us!

Also please help promoting the event. Make sure your friends based in Spain know about it. Make sure the developers of your beloved applications know about it as well. Yes, you can make a difference by micro/blogging, forwarding a bringing the topic to relevant forums.

Localization workshop confirmed!
http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo-Barcelon...d#Localization

I'll approve the sponsorship requests that were more linked to this activity. Transifex can send one developer. We are finishing details about who will take part from the Maemo Devices team and also from Forum Nokia.

I sent an email to the Softcatalà list introducing the event and (surprisingly) I didn't get any answer. That list was very active a while ago, I don't know if the local activity is lower these days or simply that Maemo sounds as something distant compared to Firefox, OpenOffice.org, etc. I'll have to check directly with some colleagues to see what is going on.

I had registered and received an email of acceptance. Having asked also for sponsorship, I also got a second email when that request was turned down.

That is not a problem (of course: I knew it was a long shot), but the fact that I am no longer on the list is.

Am I supposed to stay put :-) and wait for an event here in Italy? Can I attend as long as I don't talk? ;-)

Hi,

I didn't receive the rejection email, but if I recall correctly, for the Summit there were instructions in that mail that your registration was being removed, so if you wanted to aattend without sponsorship you had to re-register. Did you see anything like that?

Cheers,
Dave.

60 participants registered. The list of participants is public at http://maemo.org/news/events/maemo-b..._long_weekend/

The rejections are only for sponsorship requests. Anybody is free to come, join the event and be as active as wished.

I was not familiar with the sponsoring procedures since I didn't ask for the summit, so I mis-read the note: I'm checking if I can get decent flights, else I'll wait for the italian meeting when it happens.

EDIT: terrible flight options... I'll definitely wait for a local event... any tentative timeframe for that?

Thank you so much to Dave and Quim for inviting me to be part of the documentation-hack in Barcelona. I am so excited I can hardly sit still.

I've just looked at the accomodation table. Oh dear, that is sooo tempting! All those nice maemo young men... I suppose I'd better behave myself. :(

Look forward to seeing you all there!
