Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

How about a white shirt? I really like the Skype shirt from the last summit. And something without orange would be great too. I kind of have enough from looking at all the maemo.org websites all day ;)

Ok, but that's only my unqualified opinion! I'm really happy to get a shirt at all. Even better if it has some custom graphics which fit to the event :)

EDIT: Oh and I like the second Columbus more. It's nice to see the statue completely, but the half circle with the label below looks cleaner to me.

I also quite like the secondm Columbus a bit more.
But I am not that fond of the device in it.. it's funny, but doesn't make that much sense?

Dunno...

Hello, well I can do that of course and as a "user to be" of the N900 I understand why you all like the device in the logo (it also recalls the original idea of this meeting "UX meets Code" even though is not about that only anymore), as a designer I would not do it because it would become loaded with too many concepts and one of the primary rules in design is "keep is simple". But as I told you if the community prefers it, I have no problem in doing it. Quim when do you need it? I can send you the logo with the changes tomorrow morning and also with something for the back.

I'll ask today to the merchandising providers but I suspect tomorrow is about the last day we have.

Thanks Samantha for all this work! With only 7 posts you have earned the respect as the designer of this shirt. we don't have time to discuss shirt color etc so we will do whatever you say and deliver by the end of today. :)

Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

I had some ideas but Samantha has been doing such a great job I was just happy watching the work. :)

But I do have one idea I'd like to see incorporated. It occurred to me it would be cool to have a theme for codefests regardless of location... so I thought: "how about getting code into the design?"

From there I figured "why not Morse code?" and a real play on words by having the word "code" in Morse. So...

Thoughts? (note: that color is unofficial, I was being lazy)

That's great to hear Quim :)
I just woke her up with this news... she'll express soon her happyness.

I will bring her to the meeting the first day so that she could be proud of seeing more than 50 people wearing her logo.

Thank you very much!!! I am working on the back right now. Did you prefer the circle or the half circle?
Just to give a try I also included Colom in this little different shape.

Thanks Samantha,
for me the best is still the half circle. I get associations of sunset on the beach which are (of course) very positive :)
The shape of your last post reminds me of church windows where I have err... well... different feelings attached ;)

But again, that´s only me...

To make it simple I have put the three version together, I am not very happy about the third one.
I go on in working on the back, i will get back as soon as it ready (I will try to be super quick)

Great work!

I like the 2nd one best.

Great work Samantha,

My favorites are the first two :D.

In your opinion in which shirt color they will look better ?

Thanks!!

Samantha 2009-11-23 10:14

Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

There are three ways, white (not so cool), black (but we would need a white border all around) and Yellow (if a similar maemo yellow exist) this solution will help to save money for the print as we have only the black and the gray.

qgil 2009-11-23 10:43

Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

What about a shirt in the inverted colour from that orange? Should be some blue.

If we take the 2nd image and we cut the orange inside the frame we will have the blue of the shirt instead - Columbus and the blue sky of Barcelona in a background!

Also, isn't the grey of the maemo.org logo too dark in such context? What about something lighter, even some white?

It's a nice idea, but I would choose a light blue otherwise we won't be able to see anything. i assume that we will cut out the yellow also in the "e" of maemo...anyway both yellow and blue could be fine yellow is the sun, blue is the sky.

About the problem that might seems like a church, I have seen lots of buildings (not churches) with those windows, and maybe an open windows could link the concept of open source, but of course if this shape is a problem for lots of people...we can go for he first one with a blue background

Just forget my comment about the church window :) Really, you´re the designer and you´ll do the right thing I´m sure and I like the idea with the light blue shirts.

A light gray would be nice, if you are able to have a code for the shirt's color (or the name of the color) we can try to see if gray match well or if he white is better, as that depends a lot on which kind of blue the tshirt is

Is good to have this things noticed, we are so many, from lots of different coltures that things that might seems obvious to me (spanish flag for instance) are not obvious to others...

Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

That window looks "Barcelona-friendly" to me also in secular architecture ;) Actually the churches in Barcelona are more Gothic / Modernist / Contemporary than Romanic (which are quite frequent in the countryside).

I like it too.

Light blue for the shirt? works for me. You define the colour and then we will find the best match with the shirt.

Also please start using http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo_Summit_2...g_and_printing to upload your high quality and source files just in case the printers need them. Thanks!

I will upload the files in minutes. Here is how it will looks like. From my screen seems quite a "sky blue" but I don't trust the laptop screen. Could you please ask to the printer if the need the blue in the file so they have as a reference, or maybe is a little blue rectangle in the file?

the second image is my proposal for the back

Hey, but where is the orange gone? Or are you serious about no orange at all? I thought it was looking good for the Barcelona Long Weekend and even the e in the logo but just overwhelming if being also in the Columbus frame.

asimulator, congratulations. You just captured in a single image all the elements we had discarded before in previous posts. ;) Next time!

PS: I wouldn't never wear a shirt like that in Barcelona. Many people would just think that I'm into http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_nationalism . Yeah, like they say in Facebook: "It's complicated". :)

Ahhhhhhhhhh I am sorry I understood that you wanted to use the blue to save a color oopppppps :) orange is coming back uploaded in the page you gave me...in Amsterdam the T.shirt was only white and red so I got a wrong meaning from your message :)

Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

My only reservation is that blue is one of those colours not everyone can wear. I personally look ghastly in pale blue (honest - you'd be sending for a doctor!) But that really is a fashion reservation. There's bound to be some people whom the colour doesn't suit.

The design is stunning. I stand in awe of people who can do stuff like that!

qgil 2009-11-23 13:17

Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

We have less people in Barcelona and there is a high UX component, so adding one color to the palette won't be that bad. :)

Sory for the confusion!

Not really. Samantha is polishing the last details and we need to deliver tomorrow if we want shirts in Barcelona next week.

About the color for the shirt I would prefer a darker blue (just a matter of taste) :)

Something like this one:

Well, as originally noted, I'm suggesting a theme element that would be incorporated into ALL code-oriented events. This just happens to be the springboard. ;)

I am sorry I was in multitask mode yesterday and I forgot to reply, just a question..why the morse code? Only because is a code or there is a particoular reason? I am just curious...Sorry for the non reply my fault, the idea wasn't bad we can keep it for the next meeting.

It's a visual pun, a self-referential play on symbology.

Again, the idea was to create a design element for a coding theme that could be incorporated into all Maemo coding event artwork. But I have an even better idea that truly represents UX + Code and I'll work it up very soon, then start a separate thread for it.

I agree, I am interested in those ideas as well, let's move to another thread and discuss about it
