If you are in Facebook please help promoting the event there: http://www.facebook.com/#/event.php?eid=181221688634

Alright, so now most activities are moving forward with their own coordinators. Every track has an own wiki page and an own discussion thread.

Except... Localization. We have the tight people there: Mohammad Anwari (the expert in Maemo Devices), one of the Transifex developers and also people like conny and thp that have been active in that front (even if they are going to the UX meets Code primarily). Toni Hermoso (well known L18n guy in the Mozilla community) will be there as well.

Can someone help starting a wiki page and discussion thread? The basics are already described at http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo-Barcelon...d#Localization

Here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo-Barcelon...d/Localization

I've added some initial content. It would be nice if we could set ourselves a goal to have several community apps translated into Spanish/Catalan/<any other languages for which translators are at the event> by the end of the weekend.

I know of at least two community apps (Conboy and gPodder) that are using Transifex for translations already, and we could help other developers with gettextizing their applications and maybe even set up Transifex integration with their SCM.

Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

I would like to push developers a bit to make package names and descriptions translatable. I have a mostly working solution to create translated control files from .po files, but it needs some tweaking. I´ll probably do this in Barcelona, then I´ll document it, and we can try to include it in some packages.
Added it to the wiki page.

Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

I'd like to encourage developers to name apps and widgets with something that is expressive of what they do - much easier for bears of very little brain to choose what they want/need.

Long Weekend Localization discussion thread opened at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=35234

We are getting a wave of registrations: about 10 in the last hours, all with local names. Probably related to a mass mailing from Forum Nokia to Spanish developers. :)

saludos.

PD: sorry for speak spanish, i have read that we can speak it.

Depends what you want. Would you like a n00bs perspective? I could do that if you wanted. I might need some techno help to build a presentation - my skills go no further than basic powerpoint.

(Only in Engish!)

I volunteer if the talk is in Spanish for the local people, and the stuff to be talked is more developer centric, like in what resources has maemo.org for developers, etc. (of course, I would talk about some user stuff like Talk, or the Wiki, etc., but it isn't my topic of expertise).

I don't have much time this week to do the presentation, so it'll be very plain and simple ;)

Of course, this all depends if the talk is in Spanish, if it's in English other people can to do it better than I.

I really need to get my passport. If I miss out on another one of these Maemo events in faraway places I've never been to, I'm gonna cry.

Are there more of these events planned?

I've also been reworking my (disaster) Amsterdam presentation on maemo.org history, and it should be done tomorrow evening if all goes well. I will share what I end up with ASAP.

Unfortunately (for Barcelona folks), the arrangers of the event I'm attending in California now want me to do a different presentation, so I have to switch gears and work on that from scratch. I cannot promise I'll have time to finish redoing the other in time... but I'll try.

Very, very sorry if not. :(

I *can* send what I have though, in case it's helpful-- but be warned it's in the middle of revision so may not make a lot of sense. :D

Texrat, RevdKathy, don't worry about it. I have already more or less finished the slides. Thanks anyway.
I hope not to have forgotten anything important. I'll try upload the slides beforehand to receive some feedback.

Manrique, if you want to help, you're more than welcome and you've my email ;)

Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend, December 4-6

Hello.

There will still be people this afternoon at the Citilab? I've had a terrible week: a university practical was delayed, and the due date was moved from Wednesday to Saturday. Now I have a lunch to attend. So all my plans of attending the meeting were almost ruined. :-(

I was yesterday morning, and have a short chance of using an N900 and talking a minute with some people, but I got the impression that the important things happened on Friday. Also, I see that the agenda is more or less empty.

I will do my best to be there at least at 4 PM. I've started a small application, and I want at least to see if I have the chance of showing it to Jesus Sanchez-Palencia (he was very kind with me yesterday) or other Qt developer to have some advice.

Oh, and maybe I find I win the raffle. :-)

Also, if the event finishes, but somebody wants some local to show him/her the city, or give a ride to the airport, or do the christmas shopping (today shops are open in the whole city), just say it.

Thanks.

It was really nice to meet you all in Barcelona! We're putting the UX slides to Slideshare as soon as we can, and the icons are coming as well. Remember to check out the Forum Nokia UX Self Help from www.forum.nokia.com/ux. You can also find a lot of other UX material through that page!
