I don't think they are charging you the shipment from the manufacturer.

Haha... The stuff marked "Made in Finland" is actually the counterfeit stuff. :) On my last Nokia, the real battery was made in China, and the aftermarket knockoff I bought was marked as made in Finland.

The core devices have been manufactured in Korea for some time, with final assembly in other plants such as Reynosa, Mexico and I believe Salo, Finland.

Shouldn’t be the opposite? The core stuff in Finland and the other stuff in Asia. I guess that they don’t have the know-how anymore. Sad…

Korea is not a country though, it must be either south or north korea... Or more recently, somewhat slave-labor in between in a weirdo-zone.

I think when someone writes Korea the natural assumption is that it's the south - I imagine it's pretty unlikely that Nokia have got any kind of factory in North Korea...unless Kim Jong Il is a fan of the Finns of course ;)

The reason for South Korea doing engines is that they are a Low Cost Country (LCC) and engine production is the most significant expense. Final assembly is for last-mile logistics, ie, customization. As I've noted here before, Nokia is VERY big into just in time production and so firmware is burned and devices packed only days before they go to retailers or service providers.

Re: does anybody know where the n900 is manufactured???

probably, there are 5 different manufactures:

1)- Korea
2)- China
3)- India
4)- Hungary
5)- Finland

and we dont know from where we will get the N900...:)))

Re: does anybody know where the n900 is manufactured???

I just remembered Nokia recently finished a factory in Romania (yay, patriotism). Labor is not that cheap here though, so it may be just one of those last-mile places.
I see no problem with things made in china as long as they're made by serious companies. Keep in mind that while humans are just as incompetent anywhere, they're just cheaper in some parts of the world. Generally generic products by chinese companies are bad because they're badly designed, badly manufactured and badly quality-checked, all with cheapness in mind. When a big company comes in, they bring in their designs and make sure the chinese slav....aaa workers don't screw up

Re: does anybody know where the n900 is manufactured???

Yup it's the same way with Japanese cars in America. They're not produced in Japan and shipped over anymore, they're made right in the USA.

Re: does anybody know where the n900 is manufactured???

Nokia (in Finland) has told a Finnish magazine that the N900s are being produced in Korea. Pre-productions models were built in Finland (at Salo factory).

Re: does anybody know where the n900 is manufactured???

Nokia's factory workers in Finland are going on strike. Their union seems to be on warpath.

Good thing N900s weren't made over here, or the wait would have been even longer.

Re: does anybody know where the n900 is manufactured???

I thought the N900 was being made in far north Lapland, the north pole actually, by Santa's team of Elves... which is why they're a bit late to market due to global warming melting the snow and ice so that the elves' sledges couldn't get them to the factories.

I would prefer to support workers at Salo by purchasing devices made there instead of in China.

Well, that one was in Germany before (not a low cost country at all).

My 770 was from the factory at Bochum.

:)

Have you got it already? What made you decide to get one?
I'm also in .mx but I'm reluctant to buy it as it doesn't seem to work on my carrier's 3.5G at 1900Mhz. I currently own a N800.
