Thanks to everyone for a great evening.
The venue was awesome, very minimalist, you had to be a good aim to use the urinal, I half expected there to be three seashells in the toilets.
The presentations were very good, Liqbase looks exiting though the head of marketing (I forget her name) didn't seem to0 clued up technically, answering most questions with an unsure 'yes'.

To be fair to Tanjia (sp)/Tanya she told me she was only asked to do the presentation yesterday so barely had any notice - I guess one of her colleagues must have dropped out.

Glad you all had a great time. I'm thinking about a post delivery meet-up... anyone fancy a pub in Brum? (I'm a country bumpkin, remember? Birmingham scares me less than London. :p )

I really don't scare that easily. Courtesy of the NHS, I am well trained to deal with trouble. ;) Yes, do let me know when you're down this way. I am only 2 hours from Exeter!!

*sigh* You didn't say that about the people in the video Speculatrix posted.
That looks like the pre-meeting at Chandos,
How many people were there at Chandos? I think we got up to 20 at Starbucks

The headphones are passively noise cancelling (they fit in the ear canal better) and come with three differently sized rubber ends. (Not sure what you call the part that actually fits inside the ear canal.)

Re: London Flagship Store Meetup

Congrats to convulted!!!
Man that was awesome!

Really glad to meet everyone, definitely have a NUG meet when we all have that smug look of satisfaction once the N900 is in our hands. The presentations were ok, had seen most of the stuff before online. But it was nice to be surrounded by a gluttony of N900s. Yea I think the Nokia staff were caught off guard by the veracity and intricacy of some of the questions. As mentioned earlier Nokia were very surprised by the mass appeal of the N900. Especially since they don't deem it a flagship phone (lol).

On what comes next I got a widely varying view. Some state that the next revision should be ready in about a years time, others say more like two. Some say the new maemo (6) will run on the N900 others said it wont. Others say it will be multitouch (cp) without a keyboard, others say that the touch technology to be used is undecided and it will come in 2 or more versions with keyboard etc. What I take away from that is they really are not 100% sure or they are keeping everything very close. Either way our focus should be on the N900 and watching the app development continue with that, since that will most likely be one of the factors to determine Nokias strategy towards the Maemo platform.

Hate to start rumours but did anyone else spot the first meeting in Tanya's calendar for the 18th November when she had it plugged in to the screens?

It showed "New Rover meeting" or "New rover something"

My view on this is that Maemo development was previously undermined by lack of truly powerful devices. See, N8x0 wasn't exactly fastest thing around, which wasn't helping the OS that had great potential. With N900 processing power and generally hardware doesn't seem to be an issue anymore, hence I expect to see rapid plaftorm development with fairly frequent updates rolled over-the-air to production devices, which would presumably bring features that are currently not there (MMS, video calling etc etc.). For time being, N900 and Maemo is very geeky device, however I think that within about a year or so Maemo will get mature enough to attract mass-market users too. All in all, I am seeing Maemo's future in bright colours and looking forward to see it's growing. :)

If anyone caught Tanya's surname and full job title I'd be grateful... I'd like to update my blog post properly rather than just calling her 'a presenter' and 'from Maemo marketing'.

100 internet points to the first (believable reply) and 1 million bonus points if you have a link for her.

Now it might just be the wine but I seem to remember her being introduced as Head of Marketing but there might have been a regional designation there. Suspect a quick google with nokia and marketing would reveal the answer.

Assuming that announcement from NFS that they are going to have stock tomorrow (Thu) is true, I reckon MPD will push devices to pre-order customers about the same time. Note that MPD advertised they are going to send N900s directly from "Nokia stores" (assuming that's not warehouse), hence they actually could post them from NFS itself.

Time will tell. :)

When they've said directly from 'Nokia Stores', they in fact mean from their-run ones outside of London. Which definitely not getting them this week, because Nokia delayed them again. (according to them)

No link as such, but the NFS twitter comment has been deleted by them.... leading me to beleive that either they shouldn't have posted it, they changed plans, or that (hopefully) they got too many people phoning them to reconfirm and so took it off

Shame it hasn't been implemented on the N900 - opportunity missed.

Mine does some of this.

If the screen is locked, opening the keyboard unlocks it; closing the keyboard *without using anything* locks it again.

If the screen is unlocked, opening the keyboard and closing the keyboard does not lock it.

My feeling is that I use the keyboard sporadically and locking using it would be a pain.

Based on the number of downloads in Extras, I'd say while it might be 'out' from Nokia, it has yet to hit the actual shelves/users (anywhere, not just UK).

Thanks for clarification. I was making an overall comment on my impression of the community and what I got from the people present. It was more an extrapolation than an identifiable quote. I by no means was stating that this was a representation of Nokias strategy.

Why is it that so many of the coolest Maemo people are in the UK?

Congrats convulted. I'm pleased to see the N900 went to a t.m.o. member that's been around since 2006.
