The guy who pre-ordered the N900 in the US on my behalf, just canceled it with Newegge after he said he heard nothing from them  I mean just when i felt things couldn't go any worse for me :S now If i pre-order i would have to join the back line. sigh! .. am really starting to think its really not worth it. I can always get the phone when its really out anyway. As this fiasco drag on more and more, am tempted to seek alternatives which i can use as stop gap till the phone is generally available (maybe in February ) right now am considering the N97 mini or the iPhone 3gs

I had a play around with the N97 mini (dummy) in the shop yesterday. Seems ok but no lens cover and the camera is 3.2MP so just not good enough for me. That Satio looks good, especially as that was originally my alternative to replace the N82... gonna look for some reviews.

The N97 and N97mini both have a 5MP camera!

N97 Mini has 5MP. But its screen is 3.2" instead of 3.5" on its big brother...

You're right, I had a look at every brand's phone in Carphone Warehouse yesterday, apart from Apple.

Still, any cameraphone without a lens cover does not have a chance of getting my custom.

Oh thanks for that. The N900 is looking more and more like a Febuary next year device for me, from the look of things. the ship date keep getting pushed back and back... so i might just get a phone to stop gap.. How was the performance of the N97 mini you tried.? heard the n97 is sluggish and unstable :(

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

Seriously,
I am impatient but you lot are crazy.
N900s have started shipping they will be in our hands once they have got to the distributors and our retailers.
This process takes 10-15 days and always has done.
Just wait a few days.

err what.
The phone was announced as delayed a little.
Nokia then announced shipping on the 9th.
Retailers generally get the phone 2 weeks after shipping.

Please tell me how anything gets kept on getting pushed back.

Hi
Neil says:
I was advised last week that my order (MPD - 257014)
Neil says:
would be shipped yesterday, but I haven't heard anything
Neil says:
could you please advise as to the whereabout of my order please? and when I can expect delivery of it?
Webshop Customer Help says:
unfortunately Nokia delayed the delivery again, end of November, sorry
Neil says:
is that as specific as you can be?
Webshop Customer Help says:
I really dont know that is all they told us
Neil says:
why was a mail shot not sent out to all people who pre-ordered? I have arranged my day today to make sure I was working from home all day based on what I was told last week.
Neil says:
the least MPD could have done was keep people informed.
Neil says:
I don't mind another delay, but to be left in the dark is inexcusable.
Webshop Customer Help says:
we are trying to collate all email addresses to mail everyone
Neil says:
have nokia given a reason for the delay?
Webshop Customer Help says:
no, none what so ever
Neil says:
ok, well thank you very much for your help. Just to make things clear I was not directing my concerns and frustrations at you but at both Nokia and MPD and the lack of any info/communication.
Neil says:
Thanks again, good bye.
Webshop Customer Help says:
i understand your frustration, it is annoying from our point of view as Nokia have not kept us up to date... I can only apologise for the lack of communication and assure you it is something we are working on today

http://tech.yahoo.com/news/pcworld/2...droidexplosion

Interesting article. Talks about how sales of the Droid have beat expectations in the states. I pre-ordered Sept. 30th here in Germany. If it looks like I won't be getting my N900 until 2010, I might start seeing what all the hype is about with the Droid.

A question, when was the Droid announced and how long did it take from the announcement to it actually hitting retail stores for consumers to buy? Interested in the difference with Nokia and the N900.

Nice one, Now let me tell you about my frustration.

When the Nokia N900 was announced, I figured it was just what i wanted. hence i pre-ordered it from Amazon sometimes around September. ( I Don't live in the US and i had to get a close friend to pre-order on my behalf so i sent money to re-emboss him ) later when Newegg came with a lower price i informed my friend to cancel with amazon and order with newegg instead. later the shipment was pushed back to November. fair enough i can still get my product before xmas. has it stands now. all major retailers are now saying early December, or even January. Sure am not saying Nokia is responsible for this. but for Christ sake I pre-ordered the N900 even before the Droid, and HTC HD2 was announced and those devices are already out. yet i still don't know when i will get my N900. as it stands the most realistic date is January. 5 month after i pre-ordered the device*** am starting to think .. is it really worth it this pre-order business because all it does it just get you hyped up for nothing.. I could has well just use something now and wait for the device to really be out. then i can purchase it. And yeah i stand by my point that the who N900 release/shipment, pre-order business is a fiasco .. from a consumer's point of view. Who is responsible for this fiasco is a moot point. No body should have to pre-order a $500+ device and have to wait for 5 month before it is delivered.

You should be OK as the PAC will just become out of date and your contract with T Mobile will continue as they still 'own' that number. My PAC from vodafone ran out at the end of last week but my xperia is still functioning OK, i am not sure when to request a new PAC as i have no idea when the device will finally arrive. I keep thinking that if i get a new PAC it will definetley arrive within 30 days but then i get that nagging doubt that it will still be delayed.

I just requested a new PAC yesterday. MPD had told me to request a new one as soon as possible- but when I rang Virgin, they told me that information was incorrect and that I needed to wait until the day it ran out, then call them and ask them to generate a new one on the day. Turned out that was right. I called Virgin yesterday and they texted me my new PAC at the end of the day.

It was only a dummy, so no running software at all. It seemed a nice size, and the one thing I hate about slides - it kept making me want to slide it up and back down again (part of the reason I waited for the N82 rather than jumping on the N95 like everyone else).

I won't cancel my pre-order..after all if I got something else I could sell the N900 if the other one turned out well... I'll probably be patient and look at buying a new monitor in the meantime as well as looking at reviews of monitors. I saw a video someone linked to for the HTC HD2... it looks seriously impressive, but no lens cover counts me out.. as well as an unreasonable aversion on having Windows on a phone, despite never having used Windows Mobile.

He'd ordered from his friend in the US and it's been cancelled. For him it will take even longer than most to get the phone so February is not an unlikely date in his situation.

Luckily my PAC with O2 is valid until 10th Dec. But interestingly they have told me (and it says in my PAC text msg i think!) that if the PAC isn't sed by then, my contract will continue to roll on. So presumably T-Mobile wold be similar if not the same, might be worth checkign with them.

I haven't seen webchat up for days. Hate to be sceptical but how did that person manage to get that update via webchat? Unless he's secretly a MPD employee trickling information through to us by informal means, annoyed by the lack of official communication from his superiors.. So you think I'm stupid for whining about a product that I have paid for , but not gotten when promissed ?

While you , on the other hand, are smart ,clever and intelligent for complaining of my whining, in a thread where you have no business being in the first place , if not because you too are displeased by the same wait ?

Hmmm..

hey I understand, for the older members of this forum these threads must seem incredibly trivial and annoying. But please bear with us...the reason we're speculating so much is that we can't really contribute anything to the forum until we actually have a damn device in our hands.

Trust me, I want to be an active member of the Maemo community, I want to contribute to all the other threads, I want to report bugs, make suggestions, contribute tips/tricks, recommend applications etc Once I have the device I will most definitely do that, but that's just not possible right now. Once people start getting the N900 in their hands I am sure this hysteria will die down and these forums will have a much better noise to signal ratio.

I called nokia call center here in Finland and they said the phone will be shipping (at least in Finland) next week, week 48. I asked the day and the guy didnt know.

And somewhere I saw that week 48 would be actually the REAL time the phones would start shipping. So right on time.

What just amazes me is the speculation in this forum... I really dont believe that all this people talking about "dates" actually had any contact with a sales person.
