I have several friends who work for Vodafone UK, they will be stocking it, and they have an N900 for playing/testing with, when is another matter.

Hi people. This is my first post!

Just spoke to vodafone uk customer service and the lady told me that it will be stocked after Christmas! When I asked her when, she replied that the iphone will be released in Jan and the N900 probably February time!!!! I asked her how come Nokia Retail (MPD) are selling them with vodafone contracts, but vodafone itself isn't, she replied that she doesn't know. Might get it from Nokia Retail, as my current contract ends next week.

Hi Tony and welcome :)

First thing you will learn on here is to use the search :) - as thats been said a few times, no biggy though :)

They setup the contracts, not vodaphone, just using vodafone sims :) - vodafone and a few other suppliers are all saying jan - march and most of the main retailers are saying mid-december-jan.... :)

Best bet in the UK to get it quick is walking into the flagship store in london or... possibly doing the same in an MPD store/order online - but i'm pretty sure there will be no guarantees as it all depends on batches...

Hi Guys..Since i am new to this, few dumb questions..
1.If i buy n900 on pay as you go, is it locked with the provider? Can i use my own personal sim? Is it a branded phone?
2. Will the n900 purchased in UK, work in India? Any GSM/frequency conflicts? I assume that i cannot take it to a nokia dealer in india if its bricked, right?

pleasseeeee use the search thread :) - these questions have been answered on many many many mannnnnnnny occasions :)
1) Not branded, not locked to any network (IE unlocked phones) -
So far that counts for all phones delivered, some future stockers may try to brand their phones, like orange etc :)
2) (I'm sure you posted this last night? - it's like dejavu....) - post what the GSM requirements are for your provider and check :) - alot easier for you to check yourself if you already know the GSM requirements :) - personally i see no reason why it will not work :)

If you buy a phone from another country you can not take it back to your local nokia dealer...

So we get a cheaper unlocked n900(469GBP) on PAYG when compared to a sim-free n900(499GBP)? Right?

Will check the GSM requirements and verify.

sorry mate, i'm not sure on the 469 - all depends on where you are getting it? :) - a lot cheaper in the USA tho :)
i heard of people getting it for $400-$450ish? - thats £350ish i guess?!

This guy is claiming that there 'will be' no unlocked n900s, and they'll all be tied to vodaphone. Worse, he says that future updates will tie you to voda... so what does that mean for those of us who already have unlocked n900s, and are using them with something else?

Or is he talking rubbish?

Should I be worried?

Hmmm, the guy in worthing vodafone shop seemed to think the ones they are getting will be unlocked. - but then he wasnt getting them till after xmas/jan time. So lots of things can change in that time :)

And for us who have them, nothing :) - hehe, we are special :) - i'm 99% sure they can't lock them remotely (Without sending us codes, which i think we could ignore) - so really, we are fine :) - i'm sure a nice dev person could let us know? - anyway it's open source'ish - surely there ocould be an app to sort that out :) (Oh good, look at me going all Igeek!)
