Vodafone Release News is confusing me
Hi Everyone, i'm sure this may have been covered before, but there are so many posts to go through.
My confusion is surrounding the Vodafone "release" of the N900. According to a few places such as http://www.itpro.co.uk/617539/n900-t...ne-in-november and the vodafone forums themselves, Voda IE are releasing it, and the rest may not be sure yet.... Well, surely the UK market must be ready for it, as i pre-ordered a new voda contract at the end of september? Or does this possibly mean my pre-order will wait for Voda to decide what they are doing? Or do i ignore my whole worry because actually i'm going through MPD on a voda contract, and technically thats a third party so doesnt count? - all so confusing for lil'old me! Meh - would be helpful if someone can enlighten me :) |
Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
anyone? :)

Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
Probably means you'll have to wait 'till they decide what they're up to, and then you'll get a refund/offer of different phone if they don't do the N900.
But who knows with Vodafone? ;) |
Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
I'm in the same boat as you.
However, my read is that MPD will be supplying the phones themselves and will simply bundle them with a Vodafone SIM/Contract Actually, I took up the Voda PAYG offer (in September) - which I would think is even simpler - Open the box chuck in a Voda PAYG SIM package and dispatch. I think the announcements from Vodafone relate to them actually supplying the phone as well - with branding/locking as appropriate |
Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
I believe, that they are unbranded/sim free phones with a bolt on voda contract.
Actually I know coz I checked and got an email back from MDP. |
Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
I've ordered one myself and must admit I asumed it was a sim free with a voda contract 'on the side'
Silly of course that when I asked in the voda store yesterday teh young lady actually tried to sell me a LG Viewty............ I asked her if she actually had a clue what I was asking for and she went 'yeh'. At that point I laughed and walked out. |
Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
I was speaking to one of the salesgirls in a Vodafone shop 2 weeks or so ago and asked about the N900 and she said they still didn't know if they (i.e. Vodafone) would be getting it.

Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
i was actually just speaking with vodafone customer care in Ireland about an hour ago and was told,
that they were aiming to have it available from vodafone before christmas, but that it is now looking like being the new year !! so no holding breath ! |
Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
According to this (link in Spanish):
http://www.xatakamovil.com/nokia/nok...dad-a-vodafone Vodafone Spain will release the N900 for Christmas. Greetings. |
Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
I have several friends who work for Vodafone UK, they will be stocking it, and they have an N900 for playing/testing with, when is another matter.

Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
Hi people. This is my first post!
Just spoke to vodafone uk customer service and the lady told me that it will be stocked after Christmas! When I asked her when, she replied that the iphone will be released in Jan and the N900 probably February time!!!! I asked her how come Nokia Retail (MPD) are selling them with vodafone contracts, but vodafone itself isn't, she replied that she doesn't know. Might get it from Nokia Retail, as my current contract ends next week. :(:( |

Hi Tony and welcome :) First thing you will learn on here is to use the search :) - as thats been said a few times, no biggy though :) They setup the contracts, not vodaphone, just using vodafone sims :) - vodafone and a few other suppliers are all saying jan - march and most of the main retailers are saying mid-december-jan.... :) Best bet in the UK to get it quick is walking into the flagship store in london or... possibly doing the same in an MPD store/order online - but i'm pretty sure there will be no guarantees as it all depends on batches... |
Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
Thanks noobmonkey.
Will probably order it from NokiaRetail as there is no store anywhere near me (Nottingham). |
Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
Hi Guys..Since i am new to this, few dumb questions..
1.If i buy n900 on pay as you go, is it locked with the provider? Can i use my own personal sim? Is it a branded phone? 2. Will the n900 purchased in UK, work in India? Any GSM/frequency conflicts? I assume that i cannot take it to a nokia dealer in india if its bricked, right? ------------------ pisthpeeps - proud owner of 6230i for 4 yrs :-) |

pleasseeeee use the search thread :) - these questions have been answered on many many many mannnnnnnny occasions :) 1) Not branded, not locked to any network (IE unlocked phones) - So far that counts for all phones delivered, some future stockers may try to brand their phones, like orange etc :) 2) (I'm sure you posted this last night? - it's like dejavu....) - post what the GSM requirements are for your provider and check :) - alot easier for you to check yourself if you already know the GSM requirements :) - personally i see no reason why it will not work :) If you buy a phone from another country you can not take it back to your local nokia dealer... |
Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
noobmonkey, Thanks a lot :-)
So we get a cheaper unlocked n900(469GBP) on PAYG when compared to a sim-free n900(499GBP)? Right? Will check the GSM requirements and verify. ----------------------- pisthpeeps - proud owner of 6230i for 4 yrs :-) |

Re: Vodafone Release News is confusing me
This guy is claiming that there 'will be' no unlocked n900s, and they'll all be tied to vodaphone. Worse, he says that future updates will tie you to voda... so what does that mean for those of us who already have unlocked n900s, and are using them with something else?
Or is he talking rubbish? Should I be worried? |

Hmmm, the guy in worthing vodafone shop seemed to think the ones they are getting will be unlocked. - but then he wasnt getting them till after xmas/jan time. So lots of things can change in that time :) And for us who have them, nothing :) - hehe, we are special :) - i'm 99% sure they can't lock them remotely (Without sending us codes, which i think we could ignore) - so really, we are fine :) - i'm sure a nice dev person could let us know? - anyway it's open source'ish - surely there ocould be an app to sort that out :) (Oh good, look at me going all Igeek!) |

I called him on it and he said those were his *suspicions* as to what would happen. Nice of him to add a disclaimer rather than to phrase it as fact ;) He seems to have a bug up his arse that he's not been able to get his hands on an N900, so has turned to slamming it as a "fake" phone that doesn't really exist other than as a geek's wet dream. Maybe he's trying to be satirical, but really it just seems like he's having a tantrum. |
