Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

I'll give it a try today at some point in the evening, my N95 8GB has route66 and it hardly ever loses tracking, I've been very very impressed with route66.

Hopefully the N900 h/w will at least be better than the N95 8GB - anyone know where the N900 GPS is located in the device? And what make/model the GPS chipset is?

Does closing the keypad mean the GPS antenna gets covered like the N95 8GB?

I've just bought this from ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/UNIVERSAL-PDA-...item41494702b6

And will be using the device in landscape mode like a GPS, can't wait!

try using the built in 32GB

I had the same problem and its fixed it by placing the application files in the 'MyDocs' dir:

It would be nice if somehow we can specify the data files path somewhere.

I've not seen it. But probably Sygic for maemo is using the same generating method as the others...
Can we please stop now to talk aout the pirated version?

I was amazed how much more functions Sygic get when you delete or rename the menu.ini.
Why are these functions originally disabled?

It would be nice to be able to add favorites while browsing the map instead of going through "navigate to" -function.

I've copied Drive, Maps and Res from the root of my SD card to the root of the internal memory. The app starts and I get as far as entering my product code (I've been sent two, tried both) - but after I press enter after typing the code in it hangs for a while and then disappears. This is using the "Automatic" registration. I am beginning to dispair.

I don't think. MyDocs is fat partition, symlink will not work, but if you want to customize the paths, take a look on sygic.desktop file and settings.ini file.

How about using the old maps database? Has anyone who bought tried that? US maps for example?

are you sure, you have internet connection? If it still won't work, try manual activation and getting activation code from sygic.com website.

I think the map files are the same as the symbian version maps! they are .pak and .mlm files!...........I`ll try to load a customize Cyprus map from the symbian version and see if it works

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

You need to edit the .mlm files afaik.

I am coming to the conclusion that it has activated successfully and something else is causing the problems. I am talking to Sygic about it. Several times people have mentioned installing to the internal drive. I have taken this to mean "take out the SD card and install" - is there a less physical way of doing this?

Manually registered - and it now seems to be working (although I can't see a map yet, probably because I'm inside a building) - not overly impressed by the way it handles exceptions - a few useful error messages would have helped!

just rename your menu.ini to anything else, like menuold.ini.
the menu.ini is located in N900/drive/maemo/

for fullscreen version you have to edit another .ini file.. read some posts above..

Thanks... for this.. great...

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

WOW!!!
As I have been testing the software for Sygic I emailed them yesterday and asked if I could have a discount for my feedback.

I just received the email and thought, "oh well, 10% is better than nothing". I headed for the Sygic store and duly entered my code to get my 10% discount and when I recalculated the order it took off 100%.

I then went back to my email so that I could contact them and tell them there was an error with the code that they have sent me as it was giving 100% instead of 10% and then I reread the email: 100% discount.

Wow, I was absolutely floored. :)

I really didn't expect that but all I can say is that they really are trying to be customer focused.

Nokia! take note! You can learn a lot from Sygic.

The new manual shows the GPS antenna to be under the secondary camera, P98. Possibly it would be more efficient with the keyboard open?

On a separate note, it's a bit of a bummer that, in the new manual, Nokia anticipate the secondary camera to be used in landscape mode only for VoIP video chat, which is pretty contrary to established video call usage.

YESYESYES!!!!

I can confirm!.............the maps that you have for the sygic Symbian version works in the maemo version as well!

You only have to activate the .mlm file ( I don`t say how)....I now have a customize CYPRUS map loaded and working!

Next is to mod the speed camera settings so that I can hear the guy saying the speedlimit rather than beeping!

anyone tried already to get it running on a n8x0????
maybe I should try it today...
but maybe I'm getting a N97 today, so I have to do a comparison video (n900 vs n97).
and I have to learn for a test tomorrow... okay let's forget this learning thing...

My usual way:
1.) in terminal: copy file to e.g. Docs or /media/mmc1
2.) connect N900 in mass storage-mode
3.) edit file with e.g. pspad or notepad2
4.) copy it back to the original place (before make a backup of the old file)

For me, it's working ...

hmm.. weird.. If I start navigation by entering a town where I live and then try to enter the address of my home, it won't find that address.. infact it finds only FOUR streets in my hometown (it's not really that small town) BUT if start navigatin by entering my postal number and then my home street, it finds my address.. and all the streets in my hometown..

Install leafpad, xterm to sygic.desktop and add -rfull to the command line parameter (i.e. add -rfull to the end of the Exce line)

Ah, ok. I'll wait then. The built-in GPS is rubbish, and requires you to be online to get proper lock (A-GPS). I only use satnav systems in areas where that's not an option.

Credit card ready, but won't buy until that's fixed! :D

Aha, so you mean if I configure this in the N900 settings Sygic will happily use it? It's not accessing the GPS directly? It sounds right, so I hope this is how it works.

Any of you Sygic-buyers own a BT GPS, by any chance? If you would test this I would be thankful! :)
