Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

Hi,

I have a question for the people that already acquired this software - how is the GPS fix, assuming I have the network sync disabled? I am never able to get a GPS-lock using Ovi Maps or the Location widget without the use of network sync. So my question is whether Sygic fixes that?

Can you launch the app in Portrait mode?

I just received the email and thought, "oh well, 10% is better than nothing". I headed for the Sygic store and duly entered my code to get my 10% discount and when I recalculated the order it took off 100%.

I then went back to my email so that I could contact them and tell them there was an error with the code that they have sent me as it was giving 100% instead of 10% and then I reread the email: 100% discount.

Wow, I was absolutely floored. :)

I really didn't expect that but all I can say is that they really are trying to be customer focused.

Nokia! take note! You can learn a lot from Sygic.

Wow, that is nice. It would be nice if freakin' Nokia would just send me the $50 it owes me!!

I can run Sygic without any internet connection and navigate. it does full postcode and address search, hope that clears that up for people.

okay this is getting confusing maybe someone could clear this up by running the map for Malta on Sygic.
Hey crisismt are you from Malta what with the mt and all. I'm Maltese never saw someone else with an N900 here everyone's got an xpress 5800 and the only 'high-end' phone I've seen being used was the n97.

I did, and cant find malta in the SW.

if I look at the folder maps, there is a file, 1 kb. and most of the other countries have one more lager file. any one navigating around in malta as we speak?

Just to make sure: Can you listen to music via media player while navigating? What's the performance like?

What's Sygic doing when receiving a call?

yes you can listen to music while navigating.
it seems there is no difference in performance.

i just called myself while listening to music and navigating - music gets paused and the phone-app opens

i declined the call, and the music would continue playing and navigation would continue.as well.

does anyone know how the call-function of the favorites work?
i added a friend to the favorites, but when i planned a route to his home, the menu didnt gave me the option to call him. the "call"-button was grey and i couldnt click it.
the name i entered is identical to the name i entered in contacts.

I would but for some reason I can't use the pm features. Don't know if that's standard if you're new to maemo.org or if there's something wrong but: 'permission denied' or something of the sort.

i strongly advise everyone not to buy this software at this moment.

not only does it seem that they advertise an incorrect map list (Malta - who knows what else is missing), they do not provide any privacy policy at this moment.

the document mentioned in the terms of use does not exist (www.sygic.com/privacy.htm gives a 404), and the ordering process is not encrypted at all - only the payment (i didn't order, so i can't even confirm that...)

i'd rather not send my data to someone not willing to provide some basic security for ordering.

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

Unfortunately I have to report that this application lags BADLY behind the actual position. I have seen it do the same on my colleague's WinCE device and also on my friend's 5800. Actually, it is better on the 5800 - side by side I had 22m accuracy and he had 11m.

Disappointing, to say the least. Ovi Maps is spot on on the 5800 so it can be done and the problem is the software... :(

Hi!

Anyone knows if the maps from Sygic_McGuider_v7.60.731 are compatible with this version?

I will buy it if so. Other way it's not good for me because is not providing the maps for Romania (only the transit roads).

Please give me a positive feedback!

Big turn off for me is that the map updates are not free. I have to pay €59 for the program which Nokia will (hopefully soon) offer for free, then pay for map updates which Nokia will offer for free.

Hmmm. Wait and see what Nokia does and then come back to this if absolutely necessary.

Try it on a few more journeys. I noted this a couple of times when I first started testing but I think in the end it was down to the gps getting a little lost.

Ok installed and working.

GPS accuracy is really good 20yds indoors, n97 is showing 40 - 100m!

I have setup an extrat desktop file for full screen, really good for portrait , is there any way to get to another app from full screen?

Um if it is the soccer world cup you are referring to then I hate to tell you but Brazil is not South Africa.

Never mind your Sygic quick get that plane trip changed - you are after a ticket to Johannesburg.

Also I dont think sygic has maps of South Africa at all - not on N900 or any other platform they support.

I installed Sygic and it runs fine. Only problem is:
I have a BT device in my car and when the N900 is connected i can't hear the voice of the Navi. But it needs to be connected when i get a call ;)
So is there any way to fix it? Sorry if it has already been discussed, but the thread is so big, didn't find anything about that.

its fine on my BT head unit. the satnav voice cuts in and the music stops, music continues when voice stops.

this worked on BT, FM and using the 3.5mm jack.

this all works with music player and satnav running in the background or either maximized.

i was impressed!

I can confirm:

1) It`s working with previous versions of Sygic maps!
2) It also works with the pocketgpsworld speed cameras with modded .ogg files!

Sorry if this question has already been answered in this thread, I've not the whole thing. But does anyone know what happens if you buy Sygic and then lose you're phone? Unfortunately I lose my phone more than most and although I'm still on my first N900 (touch wood) if I had to shell out a new 60 euros on top of a insurance premium each time I probably wouldn't get it.

Many thanks for taking the time to answer questions here. Do you know if there are any plans for a Diablo version? I bought the Fremantle version earlier tonight and I'm very happy with what I see so far, but I would love (enough to buy another licence) to also be able to run it on an N8x0's larger screen.

It seems to require fewer resources than Navicore/Wayfinder or Ovi maps (hardly surprising since it's a native app for a change!) and it's a GTK+ application so porting it to Diablo is hopefully going to be easier than Harmattan.

It ss South Africa 2010, but Brazil 2014 :)
By then we will have Meego 2548

Do Sygic has South american maps in previous/other platforms? I was checking and I could only find Colombia, Brazil and Mexico...

yes it works with older map too...just put them in the map folders. Make sure to have your MLM file in there as well. Run Sygic and it will ask you select which map to use. selectour map and put in proper activation info. You may have to contact Sygic for a set serial because the old serial is tied to your old phone.

good luck.

That`s what I asked the first time!....ehehe

Google is your friend.A simple search will solve your questions.

if you go to your MAPS folder in the internal memory of your phone, you`ll find folders like 'gbr', 'esp' (these are the maps corresponding to the country).Inside you`ll find an .mlm file and a .pak file ( that`s the actual map). When you open up Sygic for the first time you need to register that .mlm file with the map file.....for that you need to call Sygic

AND YES, you can use maps from Symbian phones as well!.....I`m using my Cyprus map from my 5800 and it works great.
