I had for the North, Central & South America Regions, only the selection of US. And that appeared well after the end of the working week in Belgrade.

Canada and Mexico are not part of the US, unless Mr. "O" made some changes I'm not aware of. <grin>

I think Sygic is a good, dedicated company, and I would expect the other maps for this part of the world to be available shortly.

Sorry for the rant, but I understand the N900 has been rather frustrating - My 5800XM Euro model is still much better in many ways - but I bought my N900 with open eyes, knowing it was a new, rather than a mature OS.

has anyone been succesful at downloading the USA version?

on moth my laptop and desktop, the links in the email are blocked.

then when trying the links on my n900, it started downloading. 4.5 hours later, i am only at 47%

i have sent 4 email, with not 1 return by a human, only showing that they "read" the message, and 1 auto-response.

:/

Yes I just did...

I went to the ZIP file link in the e-mail and with Windows, right clicked upon it and chose to "save target" to my desktop.

I unzipped the archive on the desktop then opened the new folder "SetupSMM_Maemo_USA".

I connected the N900 via USB and chose "Mass storage mode"

Opened the N900 removable storage drive from my desktop computers' file manager and copied the directories found in the unzipped "SetupSMM_Maemo_USA" folder over to the N900.

I also copied over to the N900 the SetupMobileMaps.deb file that I found in the unzipped folder.

Unplugged the N900 and openned its file manager, selected the SetupMobileMaps.deb and rocked on.

The whole think took about 25 minutes.

I went to the Sygic site, registered and logged in and then followed the activation instructions.

I'm now going to find zehjotkah's customization threads.

I must say how similar the lay-out and menu's appear to Tom-Toms. I'll know shortly what the directory structure looks like and if these similarities end. :)

BTW, has anybody said what format POI's are in and if Sygic provides a converter?

I think you want Ov2Upi Translator 2.9.exe, but I haven't quite gotten it to work with the US maps yet.

If that is so then it is Tom-Tom. ;)

When I have sucsesfully installed my personal poi's already in Ov2 format, I will start a new POI thread and provide links to useful tools.

It shouldn't be to hard then to add a new menu item to Sygic on the first menu page that can minimize the sucker from full screen.

Dear Zehjotkah,

I just wanted to thank you for your contributions, and especially the YouTube tutorials for programs on the N900. You are very methodical and attentive to detail. I was considering to wait for the upcoming MeeGo device (upgrade from an aging 5800), but I'm now considering purchasing the N900. Predominant among my concerns had been availability of programs for reading (pdf, word, other) and writing (a Word-like program), and for drawing (your suggestions were great) and image editing (like a mini photoshop, haven't seen anything yet). It seems from your faith in the N900 that programs of these sorts are all available, or will be soon. Is this so?

Hi,

- do you know if it's possible to deactivate the exit message?
- do you know if it's possible to put the rotate button on first page in main menu?
- do you know if network positioning is necessary for sygic?
- do you know how to add shortkeys ( for example "r"=rotate or "e"=exit ) in the keymap.ini file?

cheers, thanks

Hi Dayyan!

Thanks for your kind words!

PDF reading support is built in. Works great!
For writing you can use OpenOffice. Here is a great thread about it, which shows, that there are happy users: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=575448
Image editing is partly built in (watch my video about the camera and picture app) and there is a flash based photoshop clone, which works really good on the N900, a little bit slow, though. You can find it here: http://pixlr.com/app/
Edit: there is also Ansel-A in extras devel. maybe I'm making a video about that program, soon.
By the way, if you like what I'm doing.. I'm running for a seat in the maemo community council . You can't vote, because it is required to be a member of this forum for at least 3 month. But maybe other can do ;)
Voting starts on the 23 of march and end on the 30 of march
And here are the declarations of the candidates.

Sorry for a little bit offtopic!

Thanks for coming here and talking about the various issues!

Is there some bug reporting/tracking tool I managed to miss beyond the "We want to hear from you" form on the website? It's fine if that's the preferred option, but I wanted to check since It seems counter-productive to spam you with lots of duplicate reports if that can be avoided :-)

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

Hmm. Finland map seems to have some issues with towns. Today I tried to navigate into town called "Järvenpää" and Sygic wouldn't find it (title Järvenpää is visible on the map if you browse the map manually by finger, search just won't find it). So I tried to navigate there by inputting Järvenpää's zip code (in this case 04430) and Sygic shows it's being town called "Tuusula" which is wrong. All streets in Järvenpää are found that way (by inputting zip code and selecting the faulty Tuusula as town), but if I then try to navigate to some street in Järvenpää by typing "Tuusula" for town name it won't find those streets.

Weird stuff.

No, they're UPI format - you need the translator app to convert them from TomTom format (which seems to be the most common). Then just drop them into the relevant country maps folder.

You have to install it on 32Gb Memory and not on SD as initially stated by Sygic

You don't have to. You can install it to any directory you wish as far as you invoke it with the '-cwd' parmeter.

I've installed it to the SD card and simply use '-cwd=/media/mmc1/Drive/Maemo' in sygic.desktop

check Drive/Maemo folder, if there is settings.ini file and remove settings.dat file. Check Res foder, if there are all files as in downloaded package. Path in sygic.desktop must be without slash in the end.

It seems that during startup it always asks for the country that you want to use - is it possible to make it to default for some country?

Can someone confirm app crashing in following situation:
- Homescreen => navigate to => POI => POI in city => country => some city => show all => show all (or something like that, don't know in english)

It loads the list for a second and then app shuts down.

Okay, it was because of custom pois I had. After removing the .upi file from Maps/fin/ folder it's working. So the problem is somehow related to users own POIs. I had mine converted from TomTom's pois using the OV2UPI converter.
