Hi,

7 digit postal codes are indeed included in the Europe package. Please kindly contact support@sygic.com if you can't get them working. Direct contact by email is necessary for us in order to proceed with solving your issue.

Thank you,

I've tested it right now with my version... It works.
Don't tested it with the previous version, though.
So if it's really not working in the older version, an update is on its way.

because ovi takes forever...payment system still not working properly...sygic was smart to release this on their own...I don't know how many owners gave in and sold their devices due to the lack of a real nav. software.

Hi,

firstly, thank you very much for Sygic! This is a big step for great N900.

I have some concerns:
Is there coming any routing improvements? Routing is very quick, but in many cases the route is quite weird. And usually A->B route is different than route B->A...

Also I don't like to enter address: Country, city and street. Why I can't just write the street and pick the right one from the list?

And 3rd thing, there should be one additional routing type, like "limited speed", or "caravan", etc for bigger cars (=no U-turn, no small roads and traveling time should be calculated with limited speed).

Br, Janos

Well....kinda smart move for Sygic,... how about if ovi map turn by turn gps now finally available on N900 like the rest of Symbian OS. Then not sure you want to spend additional $$$$ on the gps software since both are Navteq :)

I'm not getting the same result exactly with your test case but I installed some custom POIs today and if I try to edit a POI name then Sygic crashes. So something not quite right. I downloaded mine from http://poiplaza.com and selected the Sygic UPI.

@PauloNet
When you download and transfer the files to the N900. Make sure all the directories Drive Res ect are in their own directories and not all in one folder ie One main Sygis folder.
All the directories need to be separate and directly stored on main dir ie MyDocs.

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

This morning aprox 50 minutes of perfect gps... then opps, app closes. I reopen Sygic, a few minutes of gps, and then apps closes again.
I repeated this "open-minutes of gps ok-autoclose" sequence about 6-7 times. After that, EVERY TIME Sygic locks the sat, it shut down. I can navigate menus (touching screen BEFORE THE LOCK). When going back to main screen, shut down!
When arrived at home this night... IT'S WORKING AGAIN! Now I'm connected (a-gps) using WIFI, and this morning-evening I used 3G.
(yes, I rebooted, disconected gps, 3g, disabled "a"-gps, deleted setting.dat, reinstalled Sygic from rep, restore the menu.ini and changes in settings.ini... ALL BUT NOTHING FIXED until I arrived home and "voila"...

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

I can't get address search to work.

I tap address, it asks me for country. OK.
Then it asks for city. Hm, the place isn't in a city. I try the name of a nearby village instead. OK.
Street name, ah now I get what I want. I start entering the street name, but I can only enter one letter, which the program ignores, and it then asks me to enter a number.
I enter number on the street I wanted.
It takes me to some random road about 30km from the place..

EDIT:
It works with another answer for the "City" question. It seem this program has a different idea of to which village this place would belong to than I do...

Hm, it seems more complex than that.. So basically out of Country(Municipality(Town(greatervillagearea(villa ge(smallsubvillage(street)))))), where each is a smaller subset of the previous, Country, Municipality and village work for me in the "City" field.
Entering the Municipality name in the "City" fields gets me results from the wrong municipality, but oh well..
EDIT EDIT: it suggests street in right municipality as second option when I click the up/down arrows..

It even gets pretty close to the right address! Maps on N8x0 and Maps on Symbian was always about 200 metres wrong, in their own direction.. It's amazing how hard it's to get such a simple calculation done ok, if address is "Funroad 743", then it means that the location is 7420-7240 metres from the start of the road, and on the left side because it's an odd number, so one should get within 20m with just arithmetic alone, not knowing anything about actual building placements :) Score for sygic here, getting it so close to reality :)

Would be nice to search for a street name in all of the country, and get a list of possible locations where such a street exists :)

Same for me. The address I wanted was of the form:
23 Fnordian Villas
Discordian Road
Eristown
Rawchester
But it seems to think I want:
23 Discordian Road
Eristown
Rawchester
That's not ideal. I don't really get on with the guy at 23 Discordian Road :)

Honestly. I'm more then sure that OVI Maps won't be ready in PR1.2, simply because Sygic is out now and Nokia is not gonna harm their sales. Besides, nokia's navi is free - the rest is easy to figure out by any of you :)

Yes, sucess.:D:D:D:D:D

I have software running. I would like to thank all the help.

It was not the instalation location, nor the sygic.desktop definitions. Neither the ini files.

Changing the regional settings from Portuguese/Portugal to English(uk)/UK solved the problem.

Now i would like to ask sygic support to look in to this issue because i would like (and all the portuguese customers) to use my native language in n900.

Thank you All:)

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

Got it activated, but there's a problem:

I use an external Holux Bluetooth GPS. It works perfectly fine with Maemo Mapper and everything I throw at it, in the N900, but Sygic has a problem.
When I click on the GPS section I get the familiar circle which should show the satellite positions, plus the list of satellites which should show signal strength.

The problem is that although Sygic is able to read the _position_ from the GPS just fine (lat/lon is fine, so is GPS clock, and altitude and speed), it doesn't see the signal strength/satellite position information. And then it decides that there is no GPS signal! Is Sygic reading the GPS info in some peculiar way? This was a big disappointment, as I heard others got BT GPS working.

My version appears to be 7.71.7763

EDIT:
Actually, I retract part of the above: Maemo Mapper doesn't see #sats in view, #sats in use etc., but it sees everything else.Unlike Sygic it doesn't choke on that though, it accepts all the other values (position/time/alt/speed/heading). I used the same GPS with Maemo Mapper on the N800, where all those additional details (sats/signal strenght/sats in view) are also visible.

So, the questions become:
1) What on earth is the gpsd interface on the N900 doing, missing that information?
2) Why will not Sygic work with the information it can definitely see, which is position, speed, altitude, heading, time.

You can configure the NMEA data a GPS will send (using command sequences). One of the "sentences" is "GSA" which describes the satellite data that you're missing, and it's probably disabled.

This is a good read:

http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/nmea.htm

If you're interested I could post the command string you'd have to send to reenable it.

@SygicSupport
Would you say the Maemo release has been a success sales figure wise? Any early figures/downloads.
Just asking outloud cos we all know better sales figures=better software support+updates.
Great product by the way, it is just what my N900 was lacking. Don't really care now if Nokia bring out Ovi voice nav as this is much better.
Im loving the openess and changable features on this, been able to personalise it is great.

I have just returned from a interesting ride courtesy of my Sygic satnav. My normal route home (Suffolk) tonight was was blocked up by bad traffic near Ipswich, so I fired up the Sygic and selected an alternative route and ended up on a magcal mystery tour. Even though I have the quickest route option checked in the settings menu it diverted me onto an hour and a half diversion and I had to select an alternative route a couple more times to get the ETA time down. Then towards the end when I was fairly near home and I got myself back onto track by getting onto a main road that passes right by my place, it then kept trying to divert me away from the most direct route by attempting to send me down country lanes going in a completely different direction.

Also last night in North London I had to travel south to Guildford and again it took me on a strange route, in the end I stopped and got my old N95 out of the boot and used the Garmin XT installed on it as I could not afford to be late to my destination.

I'll keep trying it out for now, and if tonights journey is anything to go by at least I'll get to see some new places!
