You can probably link up to an SSL based VPN using OpenVPN, which vpnc (can get off the devel repositories) also supports. If you get the vpnc-gui, it's all pretty plug and play type stuff, very nice.

Truly Awesome. I know there is a port of the Juniper Network Connect app that is pushed when you log into the box the first time as well and it works fine here on my Ubuntu box, so I am guessing I can phenagle it to work on the N900 as well.

I totally agree with all the people who say this is for techies - I love the Fluke meter comment, classic.

Thanks again

this could be a bit confusing for users if an application (like text entry does use it)
for example i want the browser to use that key to go back instead of the SHIFT-Backspace...

CTRL-Backspace does bring up the task screen.

what should exactly be improved?
it would be good to tell what points would make an improvement
The phone app is pretty decent if you ask me
i only have 1 request:
If i have a number that is not in the contacts but is in the call list, i have an option to sms. But a known contact/telephone number that is in the call list i suddenly don't have the option to sms it. I really have to open the contact card and then press sms.

Re: N900 review... pros and cons

Did I mention that we should just praise the device? I even mentioned the place where you could go to give constructive feedback. People really get offended if someone points out a better way to do things... gosh.

It's really easy to stigmatize someone as a fanboy and blind oneself from the truth that, actually, your post, was just nothing compared to what you could have achieved if you would have actually said things in the right place.

My suggestion still applies, instead of being a useless ranting teenager go out there and make some difference my friend. :o

Leave the thread?! Oh boy, are you actually suggesting me to do something useful? I'll leave the thread and contribute to the forum not getting even more stupid stuff as long as you contribute to Maemo with your ideas okay?

If not, we will continue arguing like 2 little girls...

I call that stuff "Sheepware", stuff that everyone does which to me is a waste of time. If a phone can't vpn, ssh, telnet, ping, df, ls, vi, |, <, >, then I don't want it.

Which means I've never wanted a phone until now. :D

GOOD ON YOU MATE! This ladies and gentelmen is a man who understands that technology is about appropriate use and creativity. Thank you for demonstrating the potential of the device.

/home/user/MyDocs/ is a FAT file system, you can't chmod in it. /home/opt is an EXT3 fs so that's probably better suited for coding. Create a directory owned by user, and you should be golden. Or you might format your microSD card as ext3. But the would remove the ability for it to be usable in mass storage mode when connected to a PC.

Got it fixed. Didn't realize it was mounted noexec so it's moved elsewhere. I am now hosting a webpage off my N900. :D

Hm. Sheepware. I like it. Not the sheepware, but the expression. Got all the time-wasting stuff sorted into one bag.

My use-case will be more in line with the OP's.

To be honest, everyone who knows what the N900 is knows that. I mean my father even knows that...

What brings you to judge whether I have the knowledge to "code and mess around"? I think I'll decide if it's appropriate for me or not. I'm just stating the points out (not necessarily on a person belief). If you look at the N900, & how it gets advertised on carrier magazines (at least in my country) you'd think it would contain a bit more of the phone-functionality which 2009 offers on other devices. It's just a shame imo. It could have been the killer of all killers. Geeks = Happy, Newbs = Happy = Nokia VERY Happy.

THAT IS AWESOME!

Whats the URL :)

PS: Please dont give out the URL or you know your N900 is going to take a header as everyone hits it.

Because I believe advertising implicitly - did you know its possible to "enhance my manhood", its true - I saw an advert last night on TV for this product called eXtenze. I mean they have sold over a billion pills so it must be awesome.
