When I'm trying to extract it, it keeps saying that file is damaged or can't be extracted. With Winrar I can see that there's two text files inside, but nothing else. I've already tried to download the file again but it doesn't help.

The other package works, but with errors also. WMware wont run the .vmx file though, saying 'The file specified is not a virtual disk.'. But maybe that is because I don't have the other needed file?

That's only part 1, you need part 2 as well.
Also use 7zip, if you don't want to use this, then get HJSplit, join the 2 files with HJSplit, then use Winrar to extract.

Oh, didn't realise I have to join the files first... Now it's working, thanks! :)

Re: Guide: Nokia N900 emulator on your Windows PC

You can use VMWare Player or Server instead of VMWare workstation (without "bending" license agreements  )

Player can be got from here - http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
Server from here - http://www.vmware.com/products/server/

with Server you will need to apply/download a license key.

Server is closer to Workstation than player (Server has more configuration options)

Re: Guide: Nokia N900 emulator on your Windows PC

or just use virtual box its free, open sourced and worked FAR better than VMware for me and had a tiny install.

just a note, there was a dependency missing from one of the repositories as it wasnt supporting intrepid any more

Re: Guide: Nokia N900 emulator on your Windows PC

I use opensuse 11.2 64bit

1. install Debin 32bit under vmware
2. install scratchbox (vmware Debian)
3. install Maemo 5 beta 2 SDK (vmware Debian)
4. start scratchbox, update and upgrade with apt-get
5. install nokia -binaries
6. exit from vmware (Debian)
7. mount the Debian's vmware virtual disk image (vmware-mount)
8. copy /scratchbox to you opensuse filesystem
9. enjoy developing under opesnsuse! :-)

Hrw, I haven't used this particular recipe to setup the SDK, but in general, no, that is not normal, and doesn't occur in my SDK setup.

Yes as you can use your normal PC keyboard + mouse to select/check checkboxes and type in the textboxes.

Are you in scratchbox?
You need to be in scratchbox to run that, do

Code:

/scratchbox/login
By default, it should already be in FREMANTLE_X86 so you don't even need that if you haven't change anything.

Seems like you maximised the Terminal app therefore couldn't see it, the 'n900 screen' is on your other window called "Xephyr...." minimise the Terminal app and you'll see it.

Is there any way of getting files eg music/photos onto this virtual N900?
EDIT: throught the internet i managed to load some stuff onto it.
but. it won't play mp3 music files.. it says unsupported format.
Also, i can't install anything, it says "package not found" i was trying to install from maemo.org
Any solutions?

Re: Maemo SDK 5 Installation Guide on Windows PC

No, no solution for this. It's only a development platform. Nothing that needs to use special Hardware. This will not work. (no video, 3D effekts, no Phone, SMS, Sound and so one)

If anyone else knows how get Files in the Maemo Filesysten on Xephyr let me also know. I'm interested too.
I'm testing at the moment to import my contacts. And with aviability to copy files direct one it would be much easyier for me. ;)

Pretty nice guide, everything worked as described till now.
One more question, is there a way to get connection to the internet inside vmware workstation, using wifi instead of ethernet or is it not supported?

Re: Maemo SDK 5 Installation Guide on Windows PC

Just a FYI: Their is also a Virtual PC image that is mostly setup.

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=31141

and for those who are wanting to develop using a VM; you might also checkout:

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=32537

Where I outline a technique I use to run Xephyr from outside the VM which makes development much nicer and easier.

Step 4 and 5 were useful for me in Fedora 12 as well. Thanks.

Now i just need to go Google how to write a "hello world" program and find out how install a terminal in the emulator.

Great instructions :)

A huge well done to Venom for updating it too, it really is very appreciated :)

My next question to the dev's and people who know, relates to the quote above...

Now i've got a small past of coding, but not for a few years, and i've never coded in QT, python (Well 2 lines once at uni) or C++/C...
Where do i start?

I'd love to be able to make a few widgets to begin with, and don't want to have to read the maemo bible so to speak to start....

Which of the following has the most examples, tutorials and expertise around? :)
Maemo Python
Maemo C++
Maemo Qt 4.5

Any recommendations or advice is most definitely welcome :)

You asked the same question on three different places (and another forum), if someone knows an answer they'll post it, if no one answers, no one has an answer.
