To be honest, piracy/legal rights might aswell be classed as political talk and a no go area, everyone in no doubt has there own ideas on what's right and wrong and it's only the dude with the hammer that really decideds ;)

Could we focus more on the dreamcast? ;)

Re: Emulators for the N900

Hey, can someone supply a comprehensive list of file extensions supported by the various emulators please? Or if there is a simple way to convert the ROMs?

I've realised that you need .zip files for the sega and SNES emulators, but what about the VGBA? I've seen .gba mentioned but can only find .rar or .zip ROMS- can these be converted?

Same goes for .rar SNES/sega ROMS, can these just be zipped on a PC and then transferred to the phone?

I know this is pretty basic stuff but can't see it addressed anywhere. Cheers.

Re: Emulators for the N900

Unzip-rar them and you should be fine. After unzipping change any extensions that are upper-case (.GBA) to lower case (.gba) and you should be good to go.

Could someone please port BasiliskII for N900 please? It is an amazingly fast emu, for some titles much faster than DOSBox yet providing better graphics.

Hey guys. Anyone actually got Stella (ATARI 2600) port working on their N900? Specially those using Kernel Power 53?

Hatari - Atari ST(e)/TT/Falcon emu - Needs porting - http://koti.mbnet.fi/tammat/hatari/index.shtml

I have tested (about year ago) that it works with Hatari UI. Mouse support sucks especially with that EmuTos. With 68020 and TOS 4.04 emulation in ST-high resolution desktop and some programs (I didn't play games) was useful if you use letter O to open programs (shot cuts needs at least TOS 2.06), because double-click with mouse doesn't work with Meamo version. Can anybody fix it?
There is also more interesting Atari ST-series emulator for maemo, called Aranym ( http://my-maemo.com/software/applica...to=1321&faq=46 ) , but I didn't get it run, any ideas?

Re: Emulators for the N900

I assume that a featherweight Atari 2600 game would emulate smoothly even if an emulator program were nested inside DOSbox.

There is another mac (and pc and atari) emulator too:
http://www.hampa.ch/pce/about.html
But of course it needs porting too, but would it be hard it is ansi-c sources?

Re: Emulators for the N900

I will receive my device in few weeks from EBAY. I have left maemo at 2012-2013.

When I left emulators was working fine except X86,PSP and higher hardware requirement. Just few questions, as i am a really hardcore fan of couple of DOS games. Did dosbox or X86 emulators improved ? Actually I want to play games like master of magic and master of orion etc 4X games. Another question it is totally off for this topic. I remember were a quiet good (let's say perfect) port of jagged alliance 2. Looked into the repo and cannot see it anymore, did someone remove it?

For furthermore was reading back a few pages, and see people have trouble with having legal software. As far I know almost all dos games now avaiable and free, or if you want you can pay few bucks for almost every big names via good old games site. I don't remember exactly GBA/SNES , but i have never bought a cartrige and it was quiet easy to dl any games with a simple google search.

Where we are now is 2019, and snes games 199X , I assume copyright no longer apply for majority of the roms similar to dosgames , abandonware has a great portfolio of free old games.

Re: Emulators for the N900

I regularly played Civilization (the first one, I did not like the sequels) and Kyrandia in DOSBox with no problems (except a bad battery drain since DOS does not know how to idle).

I tried playing Supaplex but the key mapping seemed muddled up and I could not get past the initial "enter this three-letter code" screen. I did not care enough to investigate what the problem was.

yes indeed ...
not to wander ...
but...
civ 1 was great wasn't it?

On pc I like civ3 and one of my fav turn based in the series Alpha Centuari

Much fun

Re: Emulators for the N900

Civ 3 was the last original "civ" game, the rest have additional extra feutarus and stupid things in it. On my surface pro I am playing CIV 6 and it extreme slow , eventually you got so much micromanagement, what should be not there. For the whole history best 4X game for me master of magic and master of orion 2. Those two had a lot of revival project, but at all all failed, and there were no port out, or limited functionality withou AI, and saw another one, which used some RP dice roll mechanism at battles, and battles took 100+ turns no comment :) I am still sit down in front of the dosbox and play the two master of games, not on daily basis but I do:)

Re: Emulators for the N900

Masters of Orion 2 was a good game....enjoyed it immensely. One of my top 100 games...

I didn't enjoy the civ offerings after 3...at all.

I have a monsterous collection of good games...
My all time favs...though...I just can't get enough of...
masters of orion 2 ...great fun...
Dungeon Keeper 2 ..one of the best games ever.
Heroes of Might and Magic 3...just charming...
Mech Warriors 2...great adrenaline pumper..
The Compleat Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 with all additions....(there is one mod that is an infinite dungeon....for endless play..)...one of my favourites...
The compleat Elder Scrolls 3...
Fate, The Game....cute endless infinite dungeon game.
Evil Genius ...great fun being a Bond - esque evil supervillain building a secret lair...trying to dominate the world...even the soundtrack is great.
Homeworld 2 is great ...another adrenal pumper..

That is off the top of my head...first thing in the morning before a coffee...
I know there are some that aren't coming to mind...
I need a coffee first...
Then add them as I recall them...
I haven't had much opportunity to play anything the last little while...
A year or 2 now...
Been too busy....
So my skillz iz poor now.

I believe you need to set rover keymap for the latter. I have it running pretty smooth now, quick actions which involve spacebar are still a bit tricky on the n900 keyboard.

Edit: see https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=35244&page=18 for a touch in the right dorection

Pupnik did a (crappy?) port for N8x0 http://pupnik.de/ja2_0.7_svn-2.deb but the site is down for a while now.
I don't recall if anyone did a better one.

Why would you assume the answer to a legal question when you have web-search?

Well you really went through for the 1975 founded document? Did you know that microsoft paying about mill, to hold back source codes, as they must have released in order to be legal. We are talking about windows in 199X , It would be absurd if a company exist who developed dos games in 198X to 199X and would report violation, the first question would where is the published source code my friend... Well grey zone, but pretty sure what you can obtain from abandonware or GOG are completely ok, rest just ignore them or buy (if you find)... 30 years softwares , my 10 years old optical disks not readable anymore not even my orig games, what about magnetic storages from 198X-199X pretty sure they also KO..

Endo

Ur list:
I have a monsterous collection of good games...
My all time favs...though...I just can't get enough of...
masters of orion 2 ...great fun...
Dungeon Keeper 2 ..one of the best games ever.
Heroes of Might and Magic 3...just charming...
until this all fine :D But rest not
I miss names from other bullfrog or simtex games (both company RIP) like master of magic (best forewer), magic carpet, popolus 3 the begining (last game of bullfrog)

But moO2 high upward rating replayability and difficulcy and complexity of the game make it absolutely on of the best all time.
What about early westwood and blizzard games? RTS warcraft series and C&C+RA and dune 2 RTS ? and if we moving toward windows 1998 and upward with homam3 where is startcraft and warcraft 3 , I remember they were the most serious names even ms published the age of empires Starcraft is the main name on RTS hall of fame, just preordered war 3 reforged as well... just with that 2 sequel blizzard one of my favourite game publisher , even they now digging the earth under themselves with new decision and Activision merge...

Re: Emulators for the N900

Agreed with you on the other mentions of other games...
yup...I enjoyed them mightily ...
Got 'em in my vault as well.
There are just so many good ones.

As far as the initial query concerning Jagged Alliance 2 and pupnik's site being gone.
Gone is gone...
But ...
gone is never truly gone on the ocean of the web.
the German version is still accessible...downloadable..
Along with the majority of all the list of pupnik's games.
I haven't attempted to test and download them all...
Of all that I randomly tried ...
Only one I couldn't get a fix on the copy to download it...
and that was the english version of JA 2.
Otherwise the other games and emulators and tools and downloads he made are still valid, downloadable, and salvageable...
I could probably find even JA 2 english version on the web..if I was interested enough for the challenge...
But a cursory glance managed the bulk of pupniks work.
I also ...somewhere in my storage vaults have all pupnik's works ...naturally...
Just have to find it...
So I see no reason to dig for it through the web.

It doesn't solve the problem.
The problem that started with the 770 and then the n800/n810 3rd party repos...
and now...
the problem has caught up to the n900 3rd party repos ...

What is needed ...more than an individual just digging around for abandoned software, abandoned sites...
for another singular person...or for a few people at that specific time...
Only for the problem to remain...and grow...and the threat to spread to other 3rd party repos that could any time fold..
After the n900 3rd party repos have all fallen..
The next on the list will be the n9 3rd party repos... eventually.

What
We need .
Badly.
As I have said before.
is to absorb and put in our Maemo repos all 770 n800 n810 n900 and n9 3rd party software from the still active sites and the sites which though gone ...but are not gone quite yet.

Saving from oblivion ..
a decade and more ...of hard worked on software for our devices...
is a critical issue which demands our attention.

for the immediate....concerning the specific issue of JA2
and it is NO solution to the massive problem we face ..
Which we need to sit down and speak on how to deal with...

...look up http://pupnik.de/software.html in the wayback machine...
It is a sloppy method of saving sites and pages...
I know on the off chance ***** went bad...at least a couple of my saves there would be valid..
Others have done likewise .
If you hunt through specific saved days and times ...you may even find a backdoor to the missing JA2 english variant.

But yet again I reiterate.
We need to sit down and work on a plan...
We need to salvage the 3rd party repos for maemo...there is A LOT of software out there that can be permanently lost if we continue to do nothing and do not salvage and archive them properly.
We need to do this ..
before tons of good hard work and software disappears ...

As a reference to the fact I saw this coming a long time ago ...refer in my signature ....The Lost Gronmayer Catalogs,,,,
the work I have done tracking down lost repos and catalogs full of salvageable software ...and also a list of what I could not salvage...
That was years ago...
and the problem has not gone away...but is quietly growing.
What of us remain of maemo users have the opportunity still...to rescue all of this and more...
But we need enough people helping to do this...
It is a daunting prospect for a few or 1 to take on.
We need to create a lifeboat to chuck them into...
and then sort them out and add them to our main central maemo repo.
