Re: N900 gets a 50 usd rebate on amazon
Just had another thought of why I can only find this rebate from Nokia on Amazon's website ( note it's not listed on Nokiausa.com ).
Perhaps Nokia won't be sending Amazon any units till after Christmas and because such, as a conciliation, is giving all Amazon N900 orders an extra $50 off. It doesn't say on the rebate form that it's solely Amazon, but I'd bet if someone, who ordered from Nokiausa sent in the information they'd get an error processing or not valid response back from Nokia ( had the same issue with my E90, found a rebate form on a different website when I had ordered it through Amazon, rebate form didn't say particular companies were excluded, but after I sent it in, Nokia said I didn't qualify ). |

Re: N900 gets a 50 usd rebate on amazon
For anyone else interested, here's Amazon's response about the return policy for the n900.
-------------------------------------------------------------- In general, we issue a full refund when an item is returned in new condition as long as the carrier receives the returned package within 30 days of the day you received it from us. During the holiday season, we'll accept returns of items shipped between November 1 and December 31, 2009 until January 31, 2010. |
Re: N900 gets a 50 usd rebate on amazon
Folks, looking more and more like the only places getting these first deliveries are Nokia and their direct market channels (official resellers).

N900 on Amazon USA - 50$ Rebate
For all the other folks who purchased (pre-orderd) the n900 on Amazon. com they recently posted a 50$ rebate from nokia. I don't think it is necessarily specific to Amazon purchases...But it IS specific to purchases in the USA

N900 Rebate $50 from Nokia
I see the following offer on Amazon (USA) now:
Rebate Offer: Receive $50 from Nokia with this (in-box) mail-in rebate. Offer valid through December 31. This is very attractive! |
Re: N900 Rebate $50 from Nokia
PLEASE USE THE SEARCH BUTTON!
Sorry for yelling. But this is the 3rd thread with more or less the exact same subject. |
Re: N900 Rebate $50 from Nokia
Thanks MountainX. I had not come here searching for rebates, so I would have never known if not for you. I appreciate the (re)posting. It's that kind of helpfulness that makes the Maemo community such a pleasure to deal with.

Threads merged, and for your own sake, please contain all future discussion of this rebate to this one thread. I'm all out of tranq darts for TA-t3.

Re: N900 on Amazon USA - 50$ Rebate
Its a bad economy folks. As much as this device kills, the general public does not even know it exists here in the states.
Nokia is taking a viral approach. This takes users and word of mouth. Thus, needing it priced appropriately for consumers in this current market/climate. If wholesale is truly in the $400's, then this lines up with every discount we have seen here. (Dell, Amazon, Newegg) Unfortunately, for those on the other side of the pond, Nokia has advertising costs and an Apple like allure that builds/firms up the price. I suspect we will see deals on the N900 throughout the holidays season, then a permanent price cut shortly there after. |
Re: N900 on Amazon USA - 50$ Rebate
The n900 has to get out of the gate before you can even start selling it. Unless Nokia is intending more people to get on the pre-order rollercoaster for the Christmas holidays
Anyway though, it was interesting to see how Dell reacted to that coupon knocking the n900 into the $422 range a while back. It seems to indicate that the wholesale price is somewhere between that and $519 (the price Dell was offering before that). Or Dell is uncomfortable with making a teeny tiny profit. I can't imagine the prices being dropped off that quickly though. Maybe by April or May. |
Re: N900 on Amazon USA - 50$ Rebate
I think it is great that they are making some effort to knock the price down, but they are still talking $500+ with no available subsidy in the US, a market where a lot of the heavily advertised smart-phones can be had for $100-200 under contract. The high entry cost, lack of serious retail brick and mortar presence and no advertising to speak of pretty much consigns the n900 to the Internet Crowd. And lets face it, the Interwebs is one big echo chamber that doesn't interface with the general public to any great degree. If you don't get the N900 in significant numbers of people's hands, you aren't going to attract commercial developers.
Apple has sold 1.6+ million 3g/3gs Iphones. Verizon sold something like 250,000 of its new Droid phones in the last couple weeks and there are a plethora of other Android offerings now available at low low prices. Anyone want to take a guess how many n900's Nokia will sell in the US market? Worldwide? |

* Number completely pulled out of my arse, but hey, Nokia´s not big in the US, Dell has their own thing as well as Amazon and Newegg and Bestbuy and Brightpoint (Nokia) so it can´t be that big of the worldwide marketplace. |
Re: N900 on Amazon USA - 50$ Rebate
I can't imagine Nokia relying on word of mouth now, especially considering the way they've been with the people who've pre-ordered.

Re: N900 on Amazon USA - 50$ Rebate
Note that mobilecityonline also has the $50 rebate. So I think it's possible to assume that the rebate applies to other resellers as well.
A couple things worry me though...It says the device has to be purchased between Nov 16 and Dec 31; I'm assuming that pre-orders do not constitute as a purchase. Another thing for Canadian buyers. Would this rebate still be applicable if someone buys it using a Canadian credit card but have it shipped to an American address? The terms and conditions states that it is not valid "if it is purchased outside of the United States." But I don't think it is possible to tell if the method of payment is a Canadian or American credit card. |

It looks like newegg has a rebate as well. I guess it doesn't matter where you buy the N900, you can still get the rebate.

Re: N900 gets a 50 usd rebate on amazon
I thought that the only "authorized" retailers besides Nokia shops is Amazon. They offer a cheap price and their service are also good. And recently I came to know that there is a website named AmazingWatcher.Com which is a free website that will “watch” items for you on Amazon and let you know when amazon has them in stock at regular retail price. It got so awesome!
Good luck everybody!:p http://www.amazingwatcher.com |
