Dallas (Texas) area meetups

This thread will list meetup opportunities mostly in the Dallas area, along with some statewide events, such as:

Texas Linux Fest, April 10, 2010, Austin, Texas, USA - http://texaslinuxfest.org/

---------------------------------------------
On December 5 the Dallas (Texas) Open Source Saturday group will have a meetup. Details are in the link below:

http://opensource.meetup.com/62/

I have joined the group and plan to introduce them to Maemo development, although that may be just a short intro. I have suggested a Maemo-oriented meeting for later.

Anyone in the area, come out!

51 views and no one going? :(

Re: Dallas Open Source Saturday (meetup, etc)

This is beyond saddening...

I see a great need to cultivate a Texas Maemo developer community. I'm taking that on as a personal mission.

Dallas developers-- brace yourselves!

Re: Dallas Open Source Saturday (meetup, etc)

I could possibly make the drive up from Austin

btw Has anyone scheduled the DFW n900 meetup?

Texrat 2009-11-18 21:38

Re: Dallas Open Source Saturday (meetup, etc)

rcadden has been finalizing N900 meetup details. We recently discussed venues and dates; not sure if he settled on the former but I believe the date is sometime next week. He should be updating maemo-guru.com with the info.

As for Austin, I don't mind coming down your way on a weekend (I love Austin you lucky dog) so regardless of you coming to Dallas I want to also see what can be started down there. Surely y'all have open source advocates... :D

I'd love to attend; let me check my schedule and see whether I can...
Yeah, should be free on the 5th. Looking forward to it.

Re: Dallas Open Source Saturday (meetup, etc)

Cool, hope we both can make it.

Keep in mind Maemo is not the subject of this one (there is a different demo already planned) but I hope to wrangle it into the conversation. :D

Re: Dallas Open Source Saturday (meetup, etc)

Just got notice from a new N900 owner who is opening up a new restaurant north of Dallas. It reads:

Quote:

Just wanted to let you know that i am a proud owner of a N900 and i love maemo. I am also in the process of opening up a restaurant right now. It will be located on the service road of 75 and Campbell. It will have seating for about 30 to 40 people, flat screen TV that you could use if u want to. I will also have Wifi, let me know if u are interested and we can talk further and just to let you know it would be a great pleasure to have all the people interested in maemo at my place.
If this doesn't get people signing up, nothing will! Come on Dallas area Maemo folks! More details as I get them.

Join the Dallas Open Source Saturday group, too!

Re: Dallas (Texas) area meetups

DFW Open Source Software group (not the same as Dallas Open Source Saturday but some membership overlap) is inviting everyone to a seminar on Content Management Systems at the Dallas Marriot Quorum hotel, 10 February at 11:30 AM CST. Details in the link below:

http://www.meetup.com/Open-Software-...ndar/12301228/

I would love to attend but doubt I can. There is a cost of $15 involved, but I have not found details yet on what that covers. I will update the thread once I do.

Re: Dallas (Texas) area meetups

DFW Pythoneers has a coding session planned for January 23! Sorry for the short notice. Details:

Quote:

For this event we're going to meet at the new company|dallas office facilities. They offer coworking space with lots of amenities we need like WiFi, whiteboards and lots of seating space. But don't worry that you'll have to drive far, it's just down the street from Nerdbooks on Collins Blvd.

While the regular meeting presentation will start at the usual 2pm, the doors will open at 1pm and several people are planning on doing some sprinting. One time we sprinted on game design using Pyglet and some are interested in a group exploration into the Google App Engine. The actual topics depend on who shows up with what interests.

Food is permitted so feel free to bring in your lunch and come join us in some collaborative programming!
A beginners session is included!

I'm trying to make it!

Eventually I hope to actually make it to one.

I feel your pain. If I don't get too sick I have brake work to do... and it will be major thanks to a relative who borrowed my car.

Maybe next month.

Reporting in as a N900 user as well in the Dallas area. I stay south of downtown and i know hardly anything about programming or developing lol however thats kind of what i am here for. its to learn what capabilities my device has =).

do we have to sign in to an account to some of these gatherings? btw that restaurant thats opening up sounds like a great place to start meetings. just saying.

See the links for the various meetups; I recommend creating an account at meetup.com and joining the groups that interest you.

There will also be some maemo.org meetups... that's under development. And I do need to follow up about the restaurant...

Well, the Maemo-specific meetups didn't gain much traction, but I'm trying again under the MeeGo banner.

So anyone in or near the Dallas - Fort Worth area, feel free to join our meetup group: http://www.meetup.com/DFW-MeeGo-Network/

Promote: http://twitter.com/Texrat/status/22808635329

We're planning a post MeeGo Conference meetup November 29 at 7PM CST, at Nokia House Irving! Join us!

We're slooowly gaining members. If we can get a few more soon, we'll do a meetup BEFORE MeeGo Conference 2010. Come on Texans!

Is it just a meetup, or do we get a tour and hands-on with unreleased/under-NDA phones?

Well, we'll start as a meetup and lobby for more. No promises, but I will do what I can! If you're in the area, join-- we already have Nokia and TI members. ;)

If there's enough interest! If we double membership quickly enough I'll push for one of those. It would be great to have you participate.
