Sorry for the delay, was actually trying to find a camera!!
I bought the device sim-free without contract from the London flagship store ages ago.. Here's a pic of all my touch screen Nokia's 7710, 770, n800,n810, n97 and n900 (to be fair, the photo was taken on a 5800 and for that reason, couldn't appear in the shot :) It is awesome.. I'm still irritated that anyone is left waiting from the flagship store but the happy child in me is on a gadget high! Please excuse the terrible sheet backdrop :) |

Which might just be fairly high up, if they've still got that ******** £1k hold on my account. I don't know how much good it will do, but I live in hope that it will result in some arses getting kicked, and I advise others to do the same. Keep posting over in the 'shop.nokia.co.uk cancelled my order' thread, too. |
Re: Nokia N900 - UK Release Related Information
Ever since I got the 7710 handset in 2004/5, I vowed never to buy another Nokia device that didn't have a touch screen.. But it is funny to see so many touch screen devices in one pile..
mic works too.. only just put sim in! |

what do you think about N810?, I am seriously considering to cancel my order. |
Re: Nokia N900 - UK Release Related Information
I like the N810, I've using one for ages.. but it's a bit of a dead fish.. The N900 is the next evolutionary step.
I wouldn't buy an N810 now because a) there's no more Nokia development and b) it's not a phone.. but it doesn't stop it being a great device! The n900 is muuuch faster though.. the email client is fantastic (speed wise) compared to the n810.. and the browser is pretty fab too! |

No warranty in UK... Also (I lived in Dubai) if you buy a phone in Dubai and it stops working in the first 28 days (even if you try it once you've paid for it & you're still in the same shop!) you don't get replacement, they'll send off for repair! |

Re: Nokia N900 - UK Release Related Information
Guys,
Never thought it would happen but Im seriously starting to doubt my purchase. I have been watching this phone since it was announced, I have followed via Engadget and other sources drooling at every pic. I have patiently waited on my pre-order drooling over official and unofficial videos. I have sat at the lunch table watching every colleague around me playing with their iphone, smugly knowing that they had nothing compared to the device that would be arriving on my doorstep shortly. ...but recently, ever since people started recieving there device, there is a sea of negativity flowing in these forums. I have seen hardcore early adopters whimpering in the corner with their broken mic issue and draining batteries. For me a phone with linux is the ideal gadget. I enjoy nothing more than fannying about getting things working but at the same time as a skint dad my phone is the only gadget i allow myself, and it has to have the wow factor...Im an mpd customer and potentially have another week to go but the question is knawing at me and getting louder and louder...after all this time of waiting...am I making the right choice??? Prob the whisky but thoughts and comments would be much appreciated. Mines is a 24 month contract (never committed to that length before but such was my passion for this device) Are we being blind sighted by what we want to have not to see the flaws of the n900? |

Broken hardware happens with every phone, you can get it replaced and it is only a small percentage.. The software will have bugs - its bleeding edge, but it has a community behind it, so fixes and functionality will come thick and fast which you won't get elsewhere I went for a 12 month contract, I reckon if you have doubts, try to change the length of the contract to 18 months.. |

I need to be connected constantly, and be able to hop online at any given moment. So far the N900 has removed the need for me to even use my netbook. One thing I can't get my head round is the number of people that just complain every instance they get which is bringing the mood down and over shadowing the positive experiences which I would say is the vast majority... You have people complaining right from the beginning "they delayed a week, typical nokia screw up", "they rushed it and xyz doesn't work, typical nokia screw up", "my bank rejected the order, typical nokia screw up", "<insert whine here>, typical nokia screw up" etc etc. It seems like nothing they do is to the satisfaction of the moaners and even things that aren't related to them, the blame gets put on them anyway... Take NukNuk for example, he has been posting at every opportunity he gets about his broken mic - we get it already your mic is broken - you're not happy.. no need to post 50 times about the same thing all over the place. If nokia is such a typical screw up then what I don;t understand is why some are so bothered about this device and paying so much for it from a company that in there eyes always screws up.. It's beyond me.. Things break, Nokia isn't the first company to have defective units. Nobody is going to die, the world isn't going to end because you're getting your phone 2 weeks later instead of right now.. For me? The phone is on the verge of perfection. Battery runs out a bit faster than I'm used to, but that's expected when I have the media player, web browser, various IM's etc. all running. It's a full blown computer. I'm just waiting for the battery to be in stock so I can order another one. Another thing some fail to recognise is the Maemo community. Bugs being fixed rapidly, knowledgeable people ready and available to give assistance - no other phone has such a great community of people. The Maemo is a community driven project, I'm sure that's exactly what Nokia wants. The community to drive forward the innovations, the new features.. it's where the ideas are - the end users. I haven't owned a Nokia for over 5 years. Tried LG, samsung, sony, motorola, hp, apple, RIM - none of them come close to this and I can comfortably say Nokia now have another follower.. I'll be sure to be waiting in line with each new iteration of this device that they bring out.. /rant. |

Totally agree. while this website is full of negativity it is the same posters that keep appearing again and again on each thread. makes it hard to get a grasp on full scale of the issues and more than a few times I have wondered whether there are a few apple fanboys, employees lurking about.

Re: Nokia N900 - UK Release Related Information
I was in London on Friday and took a detour to the flagship store. there were guys outside giving demos, friendly and somewhat knowledgable (I showed one my n800 and he was genuinely interested). He said there'd be none in the store for sale for another week, so we're talking about 4th December. They were handing out leaflets with £499 off contract, and a contract deal with vodafone - no mention of any other carrier. I was just getting into it when the three guys (I think there were three) were all called off to a meeting without the reason being stated.
I wasn't able to ascertain what release of maemo was on it, or to have a detailed poke around, I only got to play for about three minutes, sorry. |
Re: Nokia N900 - UK Release Related Information
Nope, they took delivery late Fri and people have picked up from them today, with the rest being shipped Mon - hopefully this means that MPD will get the a***s into gear..

Take tonight, I gave a lift to a friend somewhere and waited outside in my car, whilst they sorted a problem out. Usually I would be fed up after short while hanging around waiting, because I would rather be at home on the 'net, doing what I normally do, most of the time, online chess usually. Sitting in the car on the 'net felt good, I felt like my life was more free. My n900 will let me travel and take the 'net with me where ever I go, technically speaking I could have done this with my previous phone a Samsung e900, but the screen was so small in terms of the 'net as to be virtually useless and of course being closed source the Samsung is anti public. From a hardware point of view I have absolutely no complaints at all, the screen resolution has to be seen to be believed, this is the first HD mobile phone on the market and this is what makes the real difference, it almost makes me want to get higher power glasses. Mic works fine, everything works fine, some of the software is a bit ropey around the edges but the fact that it is open source means it will soon receive a polish. The worse software as far as I can see is the GPS stuff- talk about incomprehensible, get it working like Tomtom please Nokia. Going on some of the comments on this forum it seems to me the people who have had hardware problems are very much in the minority, most people here have been praising the n900 after receiving it. http://dollyknot.com |
