T.M.O. playing up?
 

Is it just me or is the 'talk' section of the site experiencing some difficulties? I keep getting time-outs. Might have something to do with what's going on down in the shipping threads. I get the feeling the servers need new dilithium crystals.

Very slow, and other parts of maemo.org has been completely unaccessible for hours. But talk seems to be coming back to life now.

It feels and looks like we're running on an iphone. We're close to, but not exceding the 'most users ever'. I fear the engines canna take much more.

RevdKathy is right, I think; the online count is hovering just under 1050 at the moment, and it is probably due to 1040 people repeatedly hitting F5 on one of the "has your N900 shipped yet" threads.

talk.maemo.org runs on different servers than the rest of maemo.org, by the way. Reggie maintains them, and they are based in the USA.

We have now passed the 'most users' - and made the site almost unfit. Won't you just be so relieved when all us n00bs go away!

Well, here's an update. Our host has notified me that the server is under DDOS attack. The server is to be placed under CISCO Guard to protect it. Expect faster response time hopefully soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yup, the record has been broken again today, which adds to the server load as well. :)

Sheer speculation of course, but given the recent activity by at least one malcontented member, I wouldn't be surprised if those DDOS attacks were directed specifically HERE.

Brings back memories from mobile-review.com when first gen iphone was released and Eldar gave negative review about it... 2 days later site was attacked and could open again after a week :D

Don't scare me like that. :mad: -- but I did hear about that.

Well, TMO data is backed up daily, weekly, and monthly, and redundantly to a remote location. Everything should be safe, just in case. :D
