I saw the £77.98 being held on my bank account, i.e. difference between actual balance and available balance was £77.98. This lasted for about 5 days and then went away. I've not seen a transaction for £2 or any other amount since then from MPD and my order went straight to 'pending stock'.

This has been the first time I've pre-ordered anything, I think I can safely say it will be the last.

Amen to that. Previous to this I've always bought my phones unlocked and SIM-free and it was only financial circumstances that made me go with a contract. It certainly seems to be a lot of hassle and I'm seriously concerned about what will happen if I get a bricked unit...I somehow strongly suspect that MPD won't be going that extra mile to help me

Thanks, I thought i was the only one who didn't have credit checks and same with the upfront cost. It lessened my Available balance with a difference of 68.99 from total, but after 5 days the available balance was back to normal :/ and status stayed as "Pending stock".
I called my bank to let them know about the transaction just in case if they reject it later on thinking it was fraudulent or something :/

Hi guys,
I ordered from gummobile.com but it has been delayed twice now and now it is showing 31st December but even that is not guaranteed so ive cancelled my order and am looking to get the motorolas milestone which is due out week today. Shame as i really liked the n900 but knowing my luck id get a dodgy one after waiting all that time.

hello there, yes im another one frustrated by this whole thing. And YES! i did wonder why my avail balance was today less than it should have been. except i think mine totals the value of the first months contract and the initial payout minus the subsidy.

therefore i can only assume they are getting ready to ship these out by taking our money now. I suspect it wont vanish out of there until it is actually shipped. This i can only assume they know exactly when they are getting stock - if not, that's very bad business deducting money before even getting the items themselves. Now THAT would make me complain to industry standards comittee, it's just plain bad business practice.

I think more than anything i'm annoyed that instead of having someone in nokia store sending out what can only be described as their stock - why they couldn't send some out from there - surely that way they might get a few happy customers and nokia would sell more sim-free phones in store - thus more money for them.

*hurumph* If i dont get confirmation tomorrow, I shall seek legal advice. who knows - might geta free phone out of all this bad business practice

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

I was out and about not long ago and whilst waiting for my OH to do some shopping I tried ringing MPD repeatedly until someone answered.

Finally, got through, firstly chased a complaint about the £2 credit check thingy (see previous posts!), then said "presumabley my N900 whill be dispatched today, and he said no. I lied and told him I'd been advised it'd be delivered today, because it was the end of Nov.

He said this week, I said well I hear the at least one person walked into the flagship store in london and collected their pre-order today on the Voda contract, I thought you were to be having the exclusive on contracts. He gave a crappy answer (if I hadn't been in a shop I would have double checked my details and had a go at him for such a stupid answer!) and simply said that it must have "been a fluke" (a fluke!!?! Yeh he just happened to go in and get lucky enough that a production unit was randomly instore ready to fulfill his pre-order!!!).

He also stated and I quote "We run the flagship store".

I thought they only really had a presence their rather than ran it!

Anyway, apologies for the awful grammer, etc, but I'm just soo damn annoyign with how crap MPD are, I can't be bothered to correct myself. Just wanted to get this info out there.

And confirm that NFS are defo handing out N900's to people who pre-ordered? How many people have reported getting them today?

Erm, I think he pretty much confirmed they didn't have them in stock! I'm sure that if they did they'd be more than happy to tell someone on the phone, yes we have our stock, we'll get them out to you soon!

I've just tried ringing the NFS but it rang out, is it definite that they have the pre-orders in stock at NFS? If it is I'll gladly ring back and nag the pants of them and tell them they are lying B@$tards! lol

OK, rang MPD again!! To say wtf is going on it's theend of nov your website still says end of Nov, NFS are giving them out today to people who pre-ordered as late as 21st Nov.

Luckily I got a nice friendly chap so was friendly back and kind joined him on the "of it's all nokia's fault" bandwagon to try and get some info out of him.

He said they were expecting delivery today, but it hasn't arrived, I said have Nokia given a reason why it's randomly not turned up, he said "No unfortunately not". He said the MPD do "work alongside" the NFS, but there shouldn't have been pre-orders going out, he was a little confused by that. He believe some stores (presumably MPD Nokia Retail stores) may have received stock today.

Basically, so far all the usual crap. The interesting bit though was that he said the initial batch of N900's should cover pre-order from September to October. Not sure if he meant the end of oct or not, sorry I forgot to ask because mine was preordered in Sept.

Good work and think this is the best info we are going to get for today... Let the waiting continue.

I still find it surprising MPD are waiting on thousands of these devices and yet they have no idea where they are or when they'll get them. Bizarre!

Big love to all MPD customers,

Awaiting Stock,

Yup, it's not as if Nokia are likely to have given them a shipping crate full on a sale or return basis, is it? Some money would have changed hands and given the number of N900's that will fit in a sea container, it won't be a small amount of money by any stretch of the imagination. They know exactly where they are, they're just not letting on.

I just don't get it, why doesn't MPD get proper dispatch information from Nokia... What does "We were expecting it today" mean? how can they know the expected delivery date when Nokia doesn't tell them if they've dispatched them or not...
They should know if Nokia has dispatched their batch or not. Like customers are given information from Nokia like processing and dispatching why don't massive partners like Nokia Retail/MPD get to know that sort of info from Nokia, so stupid of Nokia and MPD :/

NFS are obvioulsy going to keep some stock for themselfs, if you have a store you want to have items for the shoppers that come in, if you ordered online your order is already late, your already fed up, you never had a dead set date for delivery and the store knows this, think the attitude will be they can wait another week lets keep the shoppers happy. Makes the stores look much better if they have some stock.

I've gotta admit as a fellow member of mamemo.org's Uk contingent I feel bad for the MPD customers.

But MPD are know for lying, prolifically. And unscrupulously continue to do so by claiming to be *linked* have *close ties* or be an *official partner* when everyone I've spoken to be it @ the "real" nokia and managers at the regent street flaghip store.

Anyways some good news a friend of mine told me that the carphonewarehouse are expecting delivery this week and are currently being trained on the device.

Just my 2p

That is good news. I can see on CPW's page that they expect to have it in stock in December and they do contracts too. So I hope someone from MPD is reading this because if I don't see my device this week I'll be cancelling my order and will *gladly* wait a week or so longer if I have to and go with CPW and have the pleasure of not giving MPD my business.
The only good thing to come out of this fiasco is that people like me, new punters looking for a phone, will do a google on MPD if they haven't bought from them before and want to check out if they're reputable. Those people will find these 55 odd pages of p*ssed off customers and may decide not to go with them :D

I am seriously considering going with the CPW too, I have a feeling their afterservice might be better also, I always have trouble getting any response from MPD and am worried incase of a fault with the phone and I cannot get a response from them, if and when it finally comes:rolleyes:

What exam you got ? Ive got Advanced Tax on the 7th ! N900 Situation aint helping either - any excuse to get away from the books eh !

Long time follower of the forum, first post.

Some news that maybe helpful :

Ordered with MPD on 21st Oct, but managed to lose my debit card which I used to place the order - called them twice about it and both times they said that when they are ready to ship they will call me and ask for new card details........................... if I get a call soon Ill post up as this means they ready to ship.

Apparently UK release of the N900 has been pushed back to 4th December, Hence why NFS is telling people more stock is due on Friday and MPD says that they will start to ship on the 3rd, which essentially means you get the phone on launch day i.e 4th December (Friday).

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/technol...5875-21850329/

My feeling is that

1) NFS / nokia.co.uk has some stock and is honouring pre-orders

2) MPD has no so called "exclusivity" except being the only ones selling the phones on contract - so they will receive stock for the official 4th December Launch

Why can't MPD be honest and tell us truthfully what their situation is - cant be that hard to put something on their website with current pre-order info for the N900 ?
