Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

What's happening to espeakcaller? There are weeks it's not updated anymore, and it's not working at the current version (0.8). Are we still going to get updates or its author just gave up?

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

Well, other than the oddball delay before speak, I have no issues, why update

The nonscrolling wasn't a problem for me, I dealt with it, just so it works.

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

great app.

since last upgrade I've noticed problems too. Now, espeaker caller doesn't work anymore. Here is log:

DEBUG:eSpeakCaller:state: 0 ukn1: 1 ukn2: 3
ERROR:eSpeakCaller:Error in call_status()
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/opt/espeakcaller/espeakcaller-daemon.py", line 162, in call_status
if self.eSpeakProc != 0:
AttributeError: eSpeakCallerDaemon instance has no attribute 'eSpeakProc'

Any can do something about this?

mine works, but too good;) when phone is silenced, espeakcaller still says caller name.. very annoying when sitting in a meeting.. is there the possibilty to silence espeakcaller when phone is silenced?

ddiscodave 2010-07-12 16:47

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

I have the same problem as someone earlier said. While testing, it'll saying anything I type but %first% only works 90 percent of the time. I keep pressing the test button and occasionally it'll work.

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

Bump this thread. What ever happened to espeakcaller? There is no update for weeks and the last version, 0.8, doesn't work - I had to downgrade to 0.7. I have also tried to email the author two weeks ago but got no response.

ndi 2010-07-19 23:23

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

What's an espeak 0.3?

espeak only does speech from the command line, as the name says.

espeakcaller auto-installs espeak, and it's up to 0.8 by now. If you have 0.3 it's probably not compatible with PR1.2, IIRC the update broke it.

Is this dead? What the heck? One day it just stopped working.

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

no longer works and the creator ditched after releasing an update which made it no longer work what so ever - although test works.

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

Strange, after i received the update, it no longer works at all. When i open the config window it closes right away. Tried to downgrade back to 0.7, same issue. I should have never install that update.

Please, install the latest version 8.0-1 and test it with all cases!
Thank you!

same here..

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

It works for me, but takes a lot of time before beginning to speak.

My use case would be to enable eSpeakCaller when I'm driving with the bluetooth headset and disable the rest of the time. So I'd like also to ask if there is any possibility to enable/disable eSpeakCaller from a dbus call or better from the command line. This way I could associate the enable eSpeakCaller with bluetooth connection.

ndi 2010-08-16 17:03

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

Mine works, but not always. I really wanted to pay attention today but it's been hell. I was only paying attention to 2-3 calls, and they all spoke (after some delay).

What is the intended default delay from "calling" state to first spoken word?

ivgalvez 2010-08-17 10:20

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

Does eSpeakCaller a command line interface?

I'd like to be able to enable/disable speaking so I could associate it with bluetooth connection.

Anyway, it still takes too much time before starting to speak so it's mostly unusable. Could it be related to the bug described here?

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

What are you expected from a PYTHON based application?
They are hell-slow etc, a programming language only for non programmers, general users.

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

Ah, I had forgotten I even had this installed. It's not working for y'all either?

It works for me.
Uninstall it, and install the latest version of espeakcaller. Maybe you have a non-compatible version on your device.

The Python application is just a GUI. I suppose eSpeak is called via command line from a dBus call raised by the Maemo 5 phone subsystem.

Thats why you have to install version 8.0-1 instead of 8.0

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

I have v0.8-1 installed, thats what fapman says.
Also the help/about page of espeakcaller says its 0.8!

Then maybe its an old log.

Is there a debug version, to find out why its not working here?

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

Hi !

Possible new BUG / Question :

1. When eSpeak Caller says a name because of incomming call, and user push the mute button to mute the ringing, espeak caller still kepp saying the name.

Could you help to prevent this please ?

2. I am a happy user of eSpeak Caller since the very beginning, and I do rememmber, that it was reasonable fast saying teh name just about the first ring. Now it takes even 3 rings sometimes. What had been changed ?

Many Thanks for this masterpiece,

Andrew
ps.: 8.0-1 worki perfectly for me.

1. remove /home/user/.espeakcaller directory
2. restart your device

I too had the same issue with it working in ver 0.7 but not 0.8-1.So I did the steps you mentioned and rebooted but it still wouldn't work.
In the log I noticed the lines:
Code:

AttributeError: eSpeakCallerDaemon instance has no attribute 'silenceSpeakers'
..
..
AttributeError: eSpeakCallerDaemon instance has no attribute 'eSpeakProc'

So I enabled the option of silencing speakers from the gui and it works now!
Just coincidence or somehow related?
Btw the error hasn't reoccurred again in log since:)

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

thanks
i just enable and disable of silencing speaker

Got an error while trying to reload

DeprecationWarning: raising a string exception is deprecated

raise "Couldn't load addressbook."
Couldn't load addressbook.

Can anyone help in fixing it ?

--Update : was starting it from root and hence the error ...
When I ran it from user the problem got rectified

avijitkt 2010-08-22 19:16

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

Another observation after starting it was not able to say the caller name ... then I connected my bluetooth headset it started saying the caller name ... after that when I disconnected the headset and called again it spoke out the callername.

I donot know how logical it is but this was my observation and I thought of sharing. And aboveall I observed it twice.
