Can't think of anything.

Did you install from terminal via apt-get? HAM eats some errors and warnings.

Also, do you have any other apps that could interfere? Say, things that get done at ring-in.

Just now I enabled the "silence speaker.." option as mentioned in previous posts and it started working for me.

(sorry my bad English if any.. ) I have "Custom ringtones for your contacts" installed and it works great...is this the reason for not working eSpeakCaller ?

I would say you definitely don't have the same problem. Geost, try a reinstall:

apt-get install --reinstall espeakcaller

Also, try to speak something from terminal, check that espeak is fine.

espeak hello

lorvixi:
Please help us with more info, like version, type of update, setting of above option.

i have espeakcaller 0.8-1 ( i think it's newest? ) and Custom ringtones for your contacts v1.0.3-0...and maemo5 PR1.3 update..(i think it problem is espeakcaller, because it's too old version ?...maybe must wait update ?...) i use espeakcaller voice Finnish language...i set "nick" for contacts and espeakcaller settings %nick%..it dosn't work...when touch "test"-button, it allways says only first name, not nick...

ndi 2010-11-03 19:23

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

Well, set it back to name or number and see if it works.

Version 0.8-1 is latest and works fine in PR 1.3.

So, either it's a conflict witch custom ringtones, you have un-set the option mentioned about regarding headphones or it might be an issue with your variables.

I'd start by reverting to a known to work variable, that's the easiest. After that, check to see if the headphone option is on. And lastly, disable or uninstall the contacs ringtone app and (just to make sure) reinstall espeakcaller using above command (--reinstall).

Though one would think someone would have noticed the conflict by now.

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

I'm not that good, but I'm sure I saw this error before on the forums, search for it (I'm on the road now).

I'm guessing some app depended on an update of a binding that broke espeakcaller. Uninstalling it will not help, afaik. I'm guessing your best bet is to wait for an espeakcaller update. Do get a second opinion.

You might be able to force a downgrade, if the old version is available. Search the forum for a reverse depends command, that will tell you what program requires the updated version. However, this beyond my current level.

Your option, save for waiting for an update, is to check to see if there is an older version of said library and downgrade, breaking other apps. You need and expert opinion. Otherwise, there's always a fresh reflash.

Start by searching for the error, other might already have solved it.

ETA: I knew I saw it before

Daveaht 2010-11-15 04:59

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

Hi Ndi, thanks for your reply.

downgrade for me is not an option. so i have no choice but to wait for the update.

so now it means PR1.3 does not support espeakcaller and alot of python applications. is very sad to hear that.

will have to wait for the update.

ndi 2010-11-15 10:41

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

The package that conflicts is not part of PR1.3. I have it and espeakcaller works. Must be something you installed.

Daveaht 2010-11-18 07:16

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

I just got an update for full pyqt install and im now able to start the espeakcaller but it the screen is different from those that i saw on youtube. mine doesn't have the APPLY button and the TEST button is on the top right hand corner. still cant use because cannot apply.

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

hi guys, same problem for me. downloaded today from extras-devel, latest version 0.8-1, maemo pr1.3, it doesn't work :(
from terminal:
Code:

$ /opt/espeakcaller/espeakcaller.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/opt/espeakcaller/espeakcaller.py", line 294, in <module> myapp = eSpeakCaller()
File "/opt/espeakcaller/espeakcaller.py", line 56, in__init__self.loadContacts()
File "/opt/espeakcaller/espeakcaller.py", line 62, in loadContacts import espeakcaller_contacts
File "/opt/espeakcaller/espeakcaller.py", line 8, in <module> import gtk
ImportError: No module named gtk

Some idea? :(
Maybe I've to install gtk package?

EDIT: ok now I'm able to launch it by tapping on icon and I'm able to configure it too but it doesn't work :(
when someone (present in my contacts) call me I listen only ringtone without voice.
I haven't installed custom ringtones app.
some idea please?

It's a known bug. Also does it for missed calls, it's quite annoying.

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

Yes, sometimes it keeps repeating the names even after ringing stops.
Anybody know if development on this otherwise very useful app is stalled or is it continuing?

Re: [eSpeakCaller] Say who is calling

Hello everyone, I have tried to read through the thread (its a long one at that :D ) and have met a lot of cases of people who installed from the garage and still didnt get the necessary result. I am one of such.
have tried to walk through the guides given by some advanced users still to no avail. When I install the espeakcaller app ad test it from its GUI, it responds fine by calling out the names in my cintact list. I noticed however that I do not have the two buttons to "re(start) daemon" and "stop daemon"' Also, it doesnt call out any names when i try calling my phone. I have restarted and reinstalled at least twice with the same result. Finally, when i install, I get version 0.8 when i check the "About" in the espeaker GUI.
Am a newbie but i think i know a bit of tech to follow through with any guides. Please, any help would be appreciated.

when i launch from xterm, espeakcaller responds fine. i type in "espeak" and the prompt blanks out to the next line. hereafter, espeakcaller reads out any words i type in. it also responds fine to the tests from the gui.
