Really?
Because I do that everyday and it performs great, even with more apps open.

Maybe your device is defective, or you are responsible for it being "defective".

Interesting, i'm using W7 64 pro, and it seems it fails to install the driver?

Will try again and report my findings. (Y).

Edit: Your right, interesting, prehaps its working after the firmware update. :S

Thanks for that, i'd lost faith in mass storage mode lol.

What driver? Since when does mass storage require a driver?

Well since this seems to be the /rant thread here. For some reason my device as become extremelly slow... I've reflashed several times today to no avail, it is laggy as hell, and I can't even turn the damn thing on when it's plugged to the charger... WTF is that?! I can't wait for NITDroid to be 100% complete, at least that will give me an alternative to the annoyance that maemo is slowly becoming to me.

Re: N900 - Yes, it sucks.

Since N900 is being Compared to so called Iphone.

Disadvantages of iphone 4
• No Flash support in the web browser
• No true multitasking for all applications
• No quick switches for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or 3G on the homescreen
• No social networking integration in the contact list
• No lockscreen or homescreen info widgets or plugins
• No new ringtones or SMS tones
• SMS,,email, and calendar tones are still not customizable
• No proper file browser or access to the file system
• No USB mass storage mode
• Screen has no vibrating haptic feedback
• No Bluetooth file transfers to other mobile phones
• Contacts lack a swipe-to-delete or mass delete feature
• No SMS/MMS delivery notifications
• No smart dialing
• No DivX or XviD video support and no official third-party application to play that
• The whole iPhone is too iTunes dependent and you’re also limited to syncing particular types of content only with ONE computer..
• Signal bars drop – and rather fast too – when your palm and fingers fold around the bottom left side of the handset. Contact with skin most certainly interferes with the antenna and the phone is effectively losing signal and call gets dropped.
• Video Call works only on Wi-Fi

And i Think many of these features are already there in N900 which was released much before.

Many of those features were available on my n73, looong time ago

Re: N900 - Yes, it sucks.

Any progress on porting Maemo 5 to the iPhone 4?

Although it is not Windows, some more RAM memory for Maemo might reduce shopiness in heavy multitasking some users are reporting.

Alternatively what happens when you configure Maemo to not use those extra 700 MB of swap memory space on N900?

Re: N900 - Yes, it sucks.

Well i have a few comments on this bad Iphone List.

• No Flash support in the web browser

i heard that Opera Mini comes with Flash 10.1 for the Iphone .. and the N900 will possibly never get flash 10 this is the Reason why you cant use it for webbrowsing if you use flash intensive Sites in future.

• No true multitasking for all applications

The Solution that they choose works too sure its no real Multitasking but you dont see the Difference if you use it.

• No quick switches for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or 3G on the homescreen
Thats truth but really it takes a few days and you get something at the Appstore for this "Problem" or from Cydia..

• No social networking integration in the contact list
You dont need this becouse the Social Networking Apps chooseing the Contacts that you have in your Contactlist you can add them to Skype, whatsapp etc. The Iphone Phone part is worlds better than the N900.

• No lockscreen or homescreen info widgets or plugins
Also not right there are tons of Programms about this.

• No new ringtones or SMS tones
Also no Problem with a small App.

• SMS,,email, and calendar tones are still not customizable
Same like before its also possible with the right App.

• No proper file browser or access to the file system
Definitly wrong there are also a lot of filebrowsers aviable.

• No USB mass storage mode
thats Truth but thats a question of the Politics the Iphone uses a really good working Media Player Database wich is works over Itunes this Database allows many Media Player Features a lot more than N900.

• Screen has no vibrating haptic feedback
Well the first i set off was this anoying vribrateing for the Screen on my N900 but did you ever worked with the Touchscreen of an Ipod or Iphone this feels just heavenly against the N900 where i have to press the Screen before i move my finger.

• No Bluetooth file transfers to other mobile phones
Also not possible bt over air file Transfer is able since the Iphone 3g by an App.

• Contacts lack a swipe-to-delete or mass delete feature
?

• No SMS/MMS delivery notifications
you dont need that really today.

• No smart dialing
what do you mean about smart dialing you can have a simple num pad at the iphone too.

• No DivX or XviD video support and no official third-party application to play that

Well okay but iam sure its a Question of time , and i know Apps that can play this well ..perhaps not official Apps its a Question of Licensing did Nokia payed really for this..i dont know..

• The whole iPhone is too iTunes dependent and you’re also limited to syncing particular types of content only with ONE computer..

Well if you use the Nokia PC phonesoftware isnt it also depend then?

• Signal bars drop – and rather fast too – when your palm and fingers fold around the bottom left side of the handset. Contact with skin most certainly interferes with the antenna and the phone is effectively losing signal and call gets dropped.

Okay but since the this Problem cames up on the 3gs after iOS4 Update too it seems to be a Softwareproblem and be sure Apple wont let Die there Iphone after a halve Year you will get many Updates and also iOS5 for it you will have it for years supported.

• Video Call works only on Wi-Fi
Okay thats an Argument.

Have you read the 'n900 is for wankers' thread, about the possibility of extending the sexual capabilities of the n900 beyond surfing internet porn?

I needed to vacuum yesterday, and my n900 let me down completely - no suction whatsoever. Suck functionality would be very helpful on those rare days I feel inclined to do housework. My netbook sucked a lot, but since I put UNE on it doesn't suck as much - maybe there is a bug in Linux that means devices that implement it don't suck as much as Windows/iOS/Android devices? Obviously the netbook has an advantage, having a fan and more powerful battery/mains connection. It would be great if I could use the n900 to get all the crumbs and dog hair out of my netbook keyboard as well, as I cannot get it to clean itself. If Nokia/Maemo developers don't make the n900 suck like other products on the market (and include self-cleaning functionality), I may have to buy a device that sucks more.

Mish.

Mish.

Sure a lot of useful tips there!

But the N900 once more fell short behind the iPhone 4 + iStrap-on combo that allows one to experience revolutionary prolonged stimulation by using other body-parts than the hand to shortcut the antenna's! And it is usable on the road and in public. ;)
Anyway I have read about the leaked N9 having aluminium parts so maybe Nokia might catch up.. :p

No, the opera mini does not come with flash on the iPhone and I really doubt Jobs will let any flash players pass his approval system.

• No true multitasking for all applications

The Solution that they choose works too sure its no real Multitasking but you dont see the Difference if you use it.

Eeehhh... it depends. For example, ome things are better the apple way (better usage of cpu, ram and battery), but their way is also quite limiting on things that has to work in the background with open network sockets (IM clients, ssh tunnels).

• No quick switches for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or 3G on the homescreen

You dont need this becouse the Social Networking Apps chooseing the Contacts that you have in your Contactlist you can add them to Skype, whatsapp etc. The Iphone Phone part is worlds better than the N900.

Eeehhh.. I guess this will come down to preference. Some people will want their main lists to be integrated with social networks while others prefer to maintain a wall between real life and teh internets. Apple's way is more limited though.

• No lockscreen or homescreen info widgets or plugins
Also not right there are tons of Programms about this.

Yep, but need to be jailbroken.

• No new ringtones or SMS tones
Also no Problem with a small App.

Ringtones are quite well supported. SMS need jailbroken apps.

• SMS,,email, and calendar tones are still not customizable
Same like before its also possible with the right App.

Yep, but need to be jailbroken.

• No proper file browser or access to the file system
Definitly wrong there are also a lot of filebrowsers aviable.

Yep, but need to be jailbroken.

• No USB mass storage mode
thats Truth but thats a question of the Politics the Iphone uses a really good working Media Player Database wich is works over Itunes this Database allows many Media Player Features a lot more than N900.

No excuses, there is no USB mass storage mode here. But in turn, there are loads of network based solutions because of that.

• Screen has no vibrating haptic feedback
Well the first i set off was this anoying vribrateing for the Screen on my N900 but did you ever worked with the Touchscreen of an Ipod or Iphone this feels just heavenly against the N900 where i have to press the Screen before i move my finger.

Haptic feedback would still be good for virtual keyboards. And there is an app for that (requires jailbreaking).

• No Bluetooth file transfers to other mobile phones
Also not possible bt over air file Transfer is able since the Iphone 3g by an App.

There is an app for vCard BT transmission. For a more general file transfer, there's only iPhone BT to iPhone BT solution.

• Contacts lack a swipe-to-delete or mass delete feature
?

?

• No SMS/MMS delivery notifications
you dont need that really today.

There's an app for that (requires jailbreaking).

• No smart dialing
what do you mean about smart dialing you can have a simple num pad at the iphone too.

there are a few quick-dial apps that offer alternative graphical quick dialer.

• No DivX or XviD video support and no official third-party application to play that

Well okay but iam sure its a Question of time , and i know Apps that can play this well ..perhaps not official Apps its a Question of Licensing did Nokia payed really for this..i dont know..

There's an app for that.

• The whole iPhone is too iTunes dependent and you’re also limited to syncing particular types of content only with ONE computer..

Well if you use the Nokia PC phonesoftware isnt it also depend then?

I think this is a valid feature. There are some practical pros and cons about this, but that's a whole different discussion.

No, it's not a software problem. It can be somewhat alleviated with a case.

• Video Call works only on Wi-Fi
Okay thats an Argument.

best regards Crown

Yes but no but yes but no but... *yawn*... N900, no more buts - it just works out of the box.

Did you guys hear a bout apple wanting to watermark jailbroken phones? There's going to be some kind of watermark on your screen at at all times if you jailbreak it.

Only a rumor of course.

Oh and if you guys really really want a list ow what iPhone can't do...

Useful little list, and anything that the N900 falls into on that list can be fixed with an app :)

I still fail to see why so many people slate the device. I love mine, it works, and does what it says on the tin.

Re: N900 - Yes, it sucks.

@Bec: Yeah, you can just answer straight 'no no no no no' for the N900, unless the proper app/workaround/hack is implemented.

Suppose I could but then there's quick painless and easy download via the app manager that can neither brick nor void warranty ;)

So far N900 is as straight forward as it gets.

Oh yeah? here's a simple one...

What's the fix for the email client? :)

Last I heard, the good solution involves manually installing a local imapd server (dovecot) and a polling service.

Re: N900 - Yes, it sucks.

I came in late in this thread, but to share my thought on it and the company (NOKIA)

Nokia 5110 was my very first phone, Ive always loved the sturdy phone, smashed it, dropped it, threw it against the wall, it still works minus the plastic face plate. 3210, 7110, Communicator, among 7 others including the Nokia 770 tablet -- Nokia was my brand.

The hardware I could not complain. The software is a piece of ****. I am a software architect and a consultant. I know how to market software and this is the complete opposite of what is to be done. (Many of you "command line" programmers and linux enthusiast wont be happy with this) -- but it is the truth. A phone this powerful and with so much potential shouldnt be marketted for a few highly technical people. Take for instance -- APPLE, GOOGLE and now MICROSOFT -- yea yea hold your skuffs and comments for later -- pure genious -- THEY GAVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT -- an easy to use software with tonnes of applications.

This phone is way to buggy to be a mainstream phone. It cant even receive a phone call when its online with its own IM software. (before you start ripping me a new one, I did everything..uninstall...reflash etc etc and nokia customer service says "dont use the IM if you want to receive a phone call" --- well geee sherlock thanks --- ******.

Dont get me wrong, I still love my N990, everyone asks what it is, but It cant go toe to toe with the Iphone or Droid on moment where it should shine -- where is the nearest starbucks? --- lets drive to that club...I got navigation...

Even if it is step 4 of 5, Nokia lost more of its customer base and lost the US and Asian Market, it is only here in Europe where Nokia products still hold the premier viewing tables at phone shops - and that is disappearing quickly as well. Nokia better pull it head out of its ***, hopefully this new CEO has got the brains to steer it to the right direction.

Pretty weired but why is people comparing Nokia N900 to other devices such as iPhones? If you are comparing.. why can't you just buy a iPhone and be happy with it rather than getting something that you complaining about.

If you want your N900 to be decent and fast then stop installing 3rd party software's.
