do you think i should get it replaced if it reboots 1/2 a day on me?? how do i do that? i bought it from newegg. .

I Just found out, that my internal memory card has IO errors on the fat partition (by trying to copy all content of it).

This memory's second partition is used as ext3 on /home and the third partition is swap. If there is IO errors on the swap partition as well, that is really bad.

Same problem here.. not a lot of reboots, but usually 2 per day.. not sure what to do...even more when people are saying that replacement units seem to have better battery life...

impossible to say.

for now it seems that cpu power saving is the one to blame. but is it hw or sw or both is still a mystery. I'd say that we all are smarter in a month.

e: i sent mine to service because I had frequent reboots and it made my device bricked three times. probably next step from io error filesystems is that the device wont boot at all

i know its painful but i would send it back, mines been up 4days and no reboots since i switched it on out the box, u paid for a quality product.

I was starting to tolerate the random reboot ranging from 5minute of uses to an 1hour. I could wait for the firmware and hope it solve the problem. However, N900 freeze on me 3 times in 3 days of use (just freeze).

I'm at the point where I don't care for the $50 rebate if i don't get a replacement back in time. Will have to contact Newegg.com.

Guys --

This is definitely a software problem. The 32wd_to means that something was consuming too much CPU resources and the device shut off. So, it can't be memory-related. If you noticed, when the device reboots, it always freezes up and acts as if it is under a lot of stress. I really doubt that this is hardware based. As far as some devices displaying the error... this is indeed an interesting question, to which I don't have any sort of theory for. The nature of the error doesn't make 'hardware defect' an option as far as the cause.

Keep in mind that all generations of the N-series tablets have displayed the same defect. Just something interesting to consider...

My device has exhibited the effect on two of three WiFi networks that I have used it on. I really do think it has something to do with how the device manages WiFi connections and different encryption methods. I propose that those with devices that freeze list the following:
Router/Firmware
Encryption Type
Applications running when crash occurred

So, allow me to start. The device crashed on the following:
Linksys WRT54GS running HyperWRT + Thibor 15c firmware
WPA2 Personal
Mail and Web, Media Player when streaming from PC

I will get the info regarding the network that the device didn't crash on within a few hours.

To further prove my point, I turned off WiFi in settings, ran 21 programs, and played the 'getting started' video, and the device was stable. Before, I would simply have the browser and email apps open and it would crash/reboot.

Here's interesting input/request from Nokia engineer from Bugzilla:

As the battery will then last only few hours regardless of whether device is
used or not, it's not a workaround for this bug. It's just a test for
pinpointing which problem the people in this bug are having.

I would appreciate if you can test whether doing that will get rid of the
reboots. Because of the effect on use-times, its better to switch device off
when you're not going to use it for longer while, or attach the device to a
charger.

If disabling off mode gets rid of the reboots, next test would testing setting
off mode back to 1 and disabling just "voltage_off_while_idle" setting. That
wouldn't have as bad effect on the device use-times.
I have changed "enable_off_mode" flag to "0" few hours ago and since then - zero reboots. Don't know if that fixes problem definitely, but I would rather expect a reboot by this time.

Other thing that came into attention is to keep device attached to computer via USB cable (NOT wall charger!) - seems to prevent from rebooting to others. I have also kept my N900 plugged to USB cable all day long (unintentionally tought, as I forgot to take wall charger to work this time) and it didn't reboot once.

Looks like we might getting somewhere with this issue... Finger crossed!

Hi, i want to ask...the repository Extras-Testing...is it safe?
I know Extras is fine...but what about Extras-Testing?
There are several apps there :
Transmission, Recorder, Maemo Periodic, Convert, FM Radio Player
which i would like to install, since they seem to be almost finished..
is there any risk involved? what does "not oftified" mean and why is it important?
