Re: N900 Unexpected reboots

so now we are considering the reboot problem is a software issue? btw if u reflash the device after changing the settings u ( evad ) said it will return to default right then i need to change it again and wouldnt this settings affect the cortex board if it was a hardware issue resulting in burning it maybe ? am i right so far ?

No, nobody considers anything yet. That was just a suggestion given by developer in order to try pinpointing possible source of this problem. Once we get closer to it, it would get easier to determine whether that is hardware or software related issue.

I'm not quite sure what you mean exactly by this. When you reflash OS and eMMC from the image, then basically you get your device back in factory state. What else would you expect? I really don't get your point.

I am hoping that too, although I'm still more likely to believe it's hardware fault. But we'll see how this evolves.

Maybe, and maybe not. It could be a simple software fix either way, some timing issues only (based on hope more than knowledge :) ) Either way it is getting more and more mysterious why Nokia are not doing these tests themselves, but I must admit they are open minded about it (having read how Mac is handling things)

I am doing this 0 > power thing too (no reboot so far), hope it will be resolved soon.

Just received the changed N900 from Nokia. This one works perfect and hadn't any reboot at the moment. It's clear that the first one got a hardware problem that made the phone reboot . Works excellent.

Sorry if this has been answered (but I wasn't going to read through all the 350+ posts)

Anyone who has had constant reboot problems have any drama with re-flashing the phone?

Mine was rebooting everytime I did anything, so I assumed it might be a program I installed and fully charged it and went to re-flash it with the Nokia Software Update tool. The wiki says it takes about 4 minutes, Mine took about 30 minutes to finish most of it, then it said 1 second remaining for about another 30 minutes before the phone either went flat or crashed, as a result the phone refused to turn back on. I have sent it back to get a replacement but I am unsure if this was a hardware failure or software.

Just to inform people that bought N900 form NFS in London, they're strongly willing to change it even for those who bought it there and live abroad..I'll have to spend some money on DHL but hope new one will work..

Cheers

This is definitely a software problem. The 32wd_to means that something was consuming too much CPU resources and the device shut off.

since when?

This is definitely still so unclear that nobody can say for sure if its sw or hw.

and tell me why majority of devices doesn't get affected this software problem? 10% of devices has their own reflashing -chip that modifies the firmware flashed to device in order to activate rebooting?

I bet nokia is also doing the tests but more testers doing those -> faster results -> ... -> profit
