Are you actually using your device? How? Maybe a piece of furniture?

Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
My Finnish N900 has never rebooted on me. I use it all the time for web, media playing, photo taking, occasional gaming (have installed Bounce and Open Arena Quake 3). I also use IMAP emails.
I browse using 3G and WLAN both daily. Never rebooted. I think the most logical explanation for the reboots is either a faulty batch or some piece of software or operator-related hardware/functionality that differs, because it definitely is not happening on mine. And judging from the poll on the other thread, the "rebooters" are a minority. But it seems to be an existing problem clearly, because it is a significant minority. |

Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
I havnt had any unexpected reboots till just now..
I dont know if anyone has seen these but i turned my device off, then i turned it back on. and it went on rebooting like 3 times. Which kinda pissed me off actually. |
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
The one that I received from Nokia kept rebooting, the one from Dell has never rebooted. sent the nokia one back. Using the one Dell sent no problem so far. More and More leaning towards hardware (batch) issues.

Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
Just got my shipment from Amazon...and it has the reboot problem. Crap. I guess I need to send it back.
|
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
Lots of reboots, from NewEgg (USA). Seems to happen most when I take it out of idle or boot it, then immediately do something taxing (like a browser).

Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
Just spoken to someone at NFS Regent Street.
I got as far as "I bought an N900 from you earlier in the week and unfortunately it seems to be one of the small number of handsets that are suffering from random reboots", expecting to have to explain further, but the chap just said "Ah, yes, if you can bring it back we'll exchange it for a new one". No arguments or anything. Clearly they've had a few of these already. Means I have to make another 4 hour round trip by train up to London, but at least I have my N900 - if I'd left my pre-order in place from October 25th I'd likely still be waiting. :D |

However, seeing your experience I might give a call to NFS directly and ask them about this case. |
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
No reboots today!!
I cancelled the automatic 3G connection, and no reboots at all today. 1 crash but it was no surprise after how we used it :o I listened 2 hours of music through fm-transmitter, used web few times, send sms, calls, took pictures... NO REBOOTS!!! I recommend to try this if you have reboots: after using connection, go to the desktop and click the battery/connection etc button in left up corner, then click the "internet-connection" and close it! So it says: "Not connected". After that, no reboots at all :) So I can easily use this device as my phone, and when using web, might have some boots, but it's not biggy. I can always change the phone when more comes... |
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
Got a new one just yesterday. No reboot so far. It seems to run way more smoothly. My advice: get a new one. They're replacing for free so it is pointless to keep a defective device.

Plus, they currently don't have N900 in-stock within a store. |
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
I both mine 2 days ago, the first day was terrible it rebooted every 5 minutes or less. Second day was better, only 3 reboots on the whole day, and after re-installing the software update it has only rebooted once in the last 2 days.
Seems to be a software issue.. but this is really bad and dissapointing =( Im from Costa Rica running a 2G sim at the moment... already voted for the bug 6334 And I cant change it for a new one right now since I bought it in the US and Im probably going back until March... By the way I have just called Nokia Care Center and they told me to have it replaced at the store where I bought it =( They told me it was the first call they receive about this particular issue with the N900 (which I dont believe)... |
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
Guys I got my phone yesterday and I had a lot of reboots... It eventually got
bricked I reflashed the firmware... It seems that it's better now.. Been using it for 1-2 hours and it only rebooted once Im pretty sure it has something to do with power saving because it happens when I leave my phone idle for 3 secs to 1 mins.. I then press something on the screen.. It turns on and the phone freezes.. After 2 secs it reboots I really hope there is a fix for this because returning the device is very annoying for me.. I live in Canada and got it from a US store and Im leaving Canada for the holidays... its complicated and I have 1 week to return it |
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
i got mine today woohoo! mic works and not had 1 reboot yet! postin on it right now :)

Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
There is a Bugzilla report on the reboot issues. Nokia feels this is actually a number of different issues. Mentioned are: power management, xorg, WLAN, SGX driver, and memory corruption in the kernel (among others). If you haven't already, I'd suggest reading through the posts. There are various bits of information that Nokia has requested that may help them solve the problems.

Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
my first n900, had alot of reboots. so i exchanged it. It's been 24hrs no reboots working fine!
|
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
Had and been using the N900 quite a bit. For the first two days I had no reboots at all, after installing some programs last night I've had a good 4 or 5 reboots today.

Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
When it reboots, does it as for PIN code again?
I went away and come back after an hour (on charge) and it asked me for pin. Not sure if i'm dizzy or it rebooted:) Raptor |
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
Just got mine, and it reboots all the time.
First one while watching youtube, then while using bluetooth, then just the X terminal, then GPS. And some more I cant remember exactly what I was doing. :( Edit: and another one just lying on the table... |

I really hope they get this bug worked out soon. It's pretty discouraging and kinda makes me not even want to use this device.

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6334 One related to wakeup or screen blanking. Nokia engineer comment below to try and track this one down ============================================ Here's one more thing that the people suffering from frequent "wakeup from idle" 32wd_to reboots could try out: - increase the screen blank timeout to the maximum (2 minutes) in the control panel display applet - instead of letting the screen blank on its own, use the screen lock key on the right side to blank & unblank the screen Does that significantly reduce the frequency of reboots? ============================================ |
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
Two more reboots today at lunch. Once while putting a shortcut on the desktop, the second while playing Mah-Jong. Unfortunately, I can't get an exchange from Amazon right now since it is listed as out of stock, so I'm going to have to wait it out a bit and hope someone comes up with a solution.

Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
i have the same problem since unbox it, I am living in russia, Nokia store refuse to replace me another one. and i suppose that is not a soft problem. i have tryied to do everything even use it without sim, but no cureleess,

Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
Guys. A very easy question.
When it reboots, does it as for PIN code for you again? Sorry to repeat. Easily missed:) |
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
frankly i'm sure its not a hardware issue, but more of a software...nokia needs to rush into fixing such holes in the next firmware update and push it out ASAP to people...also for people who had it rebooting when wifi was connected, was there any form of encryption on the wi-fi. the encryption like WPA might set it off, i remember a few years ago WPA was a problem in linux, it could be nokias codebase is shoddy..

Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
Well, I’m having like one reboot a day… and I think they’re not totally random because they usually happen in the browser (though in “light” WebPages and not heavy ones).
This sucks because it’s enough to get me worried but for now it’s not a sufficiently big problem to force me go to the nokia shop. |
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
I just shipped back mine.. I'm getting a new one..
Some people that got their phone never got reboots so I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue |

Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
My N900 used to reboot now and then. (About 20 to 30 times per day!) When I started to debug the problem I removed MSN plugin and ap news widget. I also set off the Wifi. Not sure it was right after. Those reboots reduced to about 1-2 per day? I have to test the wifi thing again to remove that possibility.
I just love the device! For me it's perfect! |

Please see comment 184 before posting anything to that bug report, though. talk.maemo.org is a forum, and Bugzilla is a technical bugtracker, and there's a difference - there's good reasons for both to exist. :-) |
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
Received my N900 replacement yesterday from new egg. First phone was rebooting almost every 10 min. New one works great, been on for almost 17 hrs with heavy usage and no reboot in site. So i do believe it's an hardware issue.
|
Re: N900 Unexpected reboots
Guys, i had a random reboots, what ever i do, sms, browsing, music listenig, tried even use without sim, but almost every 10 min one reboot. Yesterday i replace with another one, no problems, even listening music and web surfing. So i think its a hardware fault. Good luck change it for another one.
