Re: MfE and GMail still a problem?

I just use SyncEvolution to sync calendar + contacts, and the Mail app for accessing IMAP GMail.

Yes, but it's posted that Google MfE isn't 2003 or 2007. I just wonder why it works with a brand new Windows Phone mobile. Is there an other standard that a Windows Phone supports and not the N900 then?

Yeah, I would guess so. Or maybe N900 is very strict with standards.

It seems that technically, Google uses Google Sync, which is based upon and similar to, but not exactly the same as, ActiveSync. Google paid Microsoft to build upon what's covered in Microsoft's ActiveSync patent. It could be that as part of the deal, Microsoft has access to the specifications of Google Sync for its own products.

At one point, vitaly_repin, a Nokia developer who works on Mail for Exchange, commented here that Google has not made the specifications for Google Sync public, and Nokia would code only to official specifications, not to trial-and-error reverse engineering of a protocol. I can not find that posting. Perhaps in the future, Google will make the Google Sync specifications public or Nokia will license them. Until then, MfE syncing with Google using an N900 is a lucky thing and not officially supported.

How about other features still (apparently) missing in PR1.2:
- ability to see appointment's attendees
- ability to set-up an appointment with attendees
- support for private appointments

And probably most importantly (for some), support as a provisionable device.

Are these going to be implemented in N900? Or is the current implementation in PR1.2 as good as it gets?

Hi Vitaly....hope to see you here soon...it's a long time we don't hear anything from you...but go ahead with adding features to MFE :D

I'm just now happy because I can start using MFE with my Exchange 2003 server :):):) !
The famous bug with the recurring events seems to be fixed and I can now sync also my calendar.anf fully use N900 as my primary phone.
In the next days I'll post some impression as I'll start to use it.

I think that the main features needed are:
- local and remote search of email of Echange
- colors and category support: It would be nice to have the same type of appointment in outlook (example: work, personal etc)
- a better Modest email client (it is really absurd that it is impossible to mark all messages as read and you have to do it one by one)
- a better Calendar & PIM app
- many other aspects not MFE related, like bluetooh with car, portrait mode with all the standard apps, T9 on screen vertical keyboard for sms, etc etc

I hope to see soon them in Maemo or Meego (hope to have fully functional on N900) because we really need them in a top class smartphone/tablet like N900.

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls

I have experienced problems with MfE after PR1.2. After the update, content is not always actually synced. In other words; In spite of manual or automatic sync, most of the time no objects is transferred to the phone. No error message is given.

I deleted the profile and added at fresh profile. This seemed to do the trick a few days, but now it's acting up again.

Anyone experienced this? Any solutions?
