Hi Vitaly,

Could you elaborate on this please.

does the certificate need to be on the Nokia n900? if so what certificate is it and if it is not currently on there, where can i download it from?

i'm getting the following error

"exchange account disabled. access refused"

this is at first synchronisation.

It is better to ask your Exchange server administrator for help. Just explain your IT guys that Nokia N900 does not accept the certificates which are not trusted. They shall deliver the certificates to you. And you can install them using maemo file manager - simply open certificate from it. Keep in mind, "Certificate Authority" field shall not be empty as otherwise it will not be allowed to install this certificate.

Hm, are you saying it's not possible to download the certificate from the application itself?

Many companies use self-generated certificates, as the certificates you pay for is simply a scheme to get you to pay money for nothing. And yearly, at that.

With e.g. email clients in Maemo 4 you just download the certificate once, at first connection.

Or am I misunderstanding how this works in mail for Mfe?

MfE is not responsible for the certificate management in the platform. It uses platform-wide certificate storage.

There is no feature to download certificate using MfE, sorry.

No, it really would be illegal. A breach of contract. Nokia had to license the technology from Microsoft. If they did this, then their license would be revoked and they would likely get sued.

I am not sure that having 2 different packages can help much here. The simpler way to implement and maintain it is to have an option somewhere in the UI "support provisioning". If it is turned on, device is provisionable. Otherwise it is not.

Having 2 packages addresses exactly the same issue but in not so natural way. Keep in mind, nothing prevents the user from selecting which package to use. Even if company has installed the package with provisioning support to the user, he or she can easily remove it and install the version without this support.

I think that an admin is more likely to not change its policy about provisonable devices.

So if an admin does not change the policy, and you need Exchange Mail, it leaves the user in a dead-end situation.

Is it possible to make the provisonable feature something you can enable or disable on the device? That way people that use Exchange with more permitting policies can keep their data safe.

For the N900 with its Linux platform, it is quite difficult to fullfill the criteria for "provisionable devices" the way microsoft imagines them. it would require many additional concessions on the OS side, not just in MfE, which makes it really hard to implement in an open OS like Maemo.
therefore i don't expect this situation to change until Harmattan (Maemo 6) gets released, which will provide a DRM-mode, making it far more likely for nokia to be able to fullfill microsoft's criteria for this.

edit:
vitaly (one of the developers of MfE) explained a very good reason in the other thread.
